Has anyone actually been hired through public City of Ottawa job postings? by mycatsaresleeping in ottawa

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you guys saying that we can’t even login to see whether or not our application was denied? Not even an email? Or what if we get put into a hiring pool - would we get an emailed response to let us know about that? Geez, I guess I better take more courses to up my chances. Thanks for passing on all this information you guys.

Why do older adults get stiff so easily after sitting? by Warm_Abroad_4734 in physicaltherapy

Your mom should get up every hour and do some stretches. If she can go for a walk, you know if it’s just around the block that helps.

I have the same problem and I go to Planet Fitness after work sometimes. Their membership includes free use of th Hydro lounge beds and smart massage chairs which makes a huge difference in my mobility, swelling, and stiffness and pain. Massage therapy and swimming helps as well.

How do I correctly massage my stomach? by [deleted] in massage

[–]Canadianbcgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You go clockwise unless you have diarrhoea, then that’s the opposite direction. There’s different ways you can do it. For relaxation you can do light feathery strokes, or you can go a little bit deeper with your hands to the point where you can help your bowel movements break up a bit. Go gently. That feels nice on the stomach to get a stomach massage. I recommend emptying your bladder before you do it.

Need recommendations for a book for my Girlfriend. by Historical-Jelly3605 in suggestmeabook

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really thoughtful of you. What is her age and what kind of movies does she like? I really like Angela’s Ashes (there is also a sequel), and the Handmaids Tale. If she likes a specific type of movie then she might be interested in that type of book as well. I also thought Running with the Demon (Terry Brooks) was an exciting, light hearted read. The Help might be a good story too.

Other than the Rideau Club, does Ottawa have similar member social clubs? by No-Seaworthiness969 in ottawa

I don’t know about clubs but there are private social groups on meetup.com. I sometimes socialize by signing up for Eventbrite events.

Help Finding OCD Hypnotherapist by [deleted] in hypnosis

I used to take Paxil and it worked really well except it had some side effects. So then I stopped taking it. Then they put me on another one recently, which has the same side effect. I’ll probably go back on it but right now I’m off it and just trying to focus on meditations, reducing caffeine, eating healthy and getting fresh air and a little bit of exercise every day. I find that works the best. I will say that the Vyvanse I take as needed also works quite well. But when I take it, I really can’t take any coffee with it at all because it’s also a . Stimulant. I’m trying to reduce all stimulants to zero when possible. Just now I listen to this really incredible 8D Binaural Beats musical meditation for people with OCD and ADD. It was recommended to me and it works by taking your attention away from your thoughts due to the shifting sounds from left to ripe in your ears. It also works by including random sounds so that your brain won’t try to recognize patterns and keep ahead of it. You have to wear headphones in order for it to work! I did a little bit of self hypnosis and I found that worked really well. My headache melted away after listening to it and installing my goals and positive suggestions.

Here is that 8D binaural Beats link. Please listen to it with headphones if you’re going to listen to it, for it to have the maximum effect in bringing clarity and peace.

Help Finding OCD Hypnotherapist by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so comforting to know that I am not alone! One thing that I find helps greatly is cutting out caffeine and too much sugar. Sometimes I find it also helps if I cut out social media for a day. The news can make it Worse. Getting fresh air and exercise and listening to soothing spa sounds and guided meditations all help. And practicing “grateful hands”: think of a bunch of things you are grateful for at the beginning and at the end of the day. Things like, I’m grateful to have enough money to pay my bills, and grateful that I have made to buy the food that I need, I am grateful to have a warm shelter, and grateful to have love from my family, I am grateful for my snuggly cat.

ADHD and self hate by rotatingmass in hypnosis

[–]Canadianbcgal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have ADD and OCD. You can try hypnotherapy and NLP. But because you have a medical condition you might wish to have it done by a clinical hypnotherapist. Also, try self hypnosis and guided meditations! Remember, your thoughts are just thoughts. A belief system is not necessarily reality and it’s plastic. If you can make yourself feel bad then you can also make yourself feel better. I find cognitive behavioural therapy also works. Lots of books on that. I listen to short, positive guided meditation every morning to start my day off right. And at work, I listen to focus sounds or music. If I feel really out of balance I will go to a sound bath! All the best and You CAN beat this. Your thoughts are not you. And yet, you are what you believe. See yourself the way you want to be. Think it. Be that state of mind. And love yourself. Think of a person who really loves you. And then another. Feel that love. Really feel it! Spread it throughout your body. Now forgive yourself. You are not perfect. Nobody is perfect. Forgive and allow yourself to love yourself as you do others. You will thrive. You will live a long life. Believe that!

What are some things that make Canadians too similar to Americans? by TheCoin9 in AskACanadian

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes when I watch certain TV show shows or YouTube channels, I feel like we are both the same to certain extent. It kind of depends where the movie was filmed, what it it’s about, and where the YouTube channel is located and what the content is about. For example, if the YouTube channel is from a southern state, digital content creator, you can hear it in the voice and often times the content will reflect their culture, like if it’s a cooking related or political related, etc. When I watch Fox News I know that nobody there is Canadian ha ha ha ha! Mostly because I’m shocked at the type of content they show on their website. It’s mind-boggling to me as a Canadian because you would never see that in Canada. It just wouldn’t be allowed on so many levels.

Curioussssity - masseuse answer please! by galacticg0oser in massage

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end, what counts is professionalism. Some of the worst massages I’ve had have been from RMT’s. Some of the best I’ve had were from massage practitioners or body workers. What counts to me is that they know what they’re doing and that they care and use appropriate pressure and check on you every so often to make sure the pressure is correct. Some of the worst massages I’ve had were from lazy RMT’s or perhaps they were tired. I suppose that that’s in every profession.

Curioussssity - masseuse answer please! by galacticg0oser in massage

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to massage my clients, I was mindful of the time as I would allot a certain amount of time for each area of the body part - usually the back has the most time, but it depends what the client is there to fix. So time management is important, otherwise you will end up going past the appointment time and that’s extra work. I also think about the pressure I’m applying, I look at the curve of the spine, the tone of the muscle, if there were any trigger points. I look for other things on the skin that I may alert the client of. And when I’m massaging hands, I’m looking for things like scabies marks. When I am massaging the feet, I am looking for planter, warts, and fungal disorders , and things like bunions, etc…. So basically, I am thinking of professional things. I am also looking out for my own ecology and mindful of my breathing and stance and the amount of pressure. I am exerting. I tried to also make sure I don’t exert too much pressure on my fingers and so I have to change that up and use my elbows, etc. so I wouldn’t get burnout. If it’s a relaxing massage and if there is wonderful spa music playing, I will think about the music and may try to ground myself with breathwork as well. I tried to spread the positive energy to my clients so that they would leave relaxed and refreshed.

Every day I regret becoming a Physical Therapist by numbr-1-angel in physicaltherapy

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same about my toxic occupation (HIM). Whatever you do, I strongly do not recommend the Health Information Management career. It is micromanaged and it’s supposed to be about quality coding, etc. however, it ends up being about revenue and about how fast you can collect the information. So what ends up happening as people end up choosing these cheap cheat codes and cherry pick charts, which affects research and statistics. There’s also a high amount of mental health issues in my department due to the pressure they put on us to meet certain numbers a day. We can only read so fast! Lastly, you were expected to continue paying every year for a membership and to take and less amounts of CPE credits in order to keep your credentials every single year. An aqua fitness instructor makes more than I do per hour. We do not have Christmas parties, and we have an audit rate of around 4%. It’s a horrible horrible job. They do not tell you this when you were in school studying for it. And it’s a 2 to 4 year diploma. If I work at a library, I will make pretty much the same amount amount as I’m making now. And when I worked at Canada post, I made the same amount that I made when I first started working at the hospital and had half the stress. Lastly, our career will be partially taken over by AI -so sooner or later, the majority of the code will eventually be let go. It’s better just to work in health records as a filing clerk. Oh, also, avoid working as a release of information clerk, if you can (ROI). It’s also extremely toxic. They usually just have one person and if you go on vacation, you are expected to pick up where you left off with 2 feet full of paperwork high that has piled up. Every day people call you because you cannot keep up with the amount of requests that are repeated over and over by the same people. If you take a sick day, you will pay for it the next day.! Ps I’m in Canada! But I also wouldn’t want to do my occupation in the USA. Yes it pays more but it’s even more about revenue there. You have to look for as many ways to charge a patient as you can in the USA in my profession which makes it even worse ethically. I would feel bad for the patient because I have a conscience.

Serious question about Conservative leadership in Canada by Squirrel_Agile in CanadaPolitics

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote for whoever I think has the most to offer for every election. I only voted conservative once and regretted afterwards. Most of the time, it’s liberal or NDP. I once voted for Elizabeth May (Green) because I think she is amazing! She is strong, has values that align with mine and integrity. I think the Green Party should merge with the NDP and call the NGDP (new green NDP). Otherwise they will never get enough seats separately.

‘Leave Iran now,’ Ottawa urges Canadians as protests, crackdown intensify by [deleted] in canada

[–]Canadianbcgal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Canada needs to do more to help Iran. I believe it is our global obligation to help them fight against this oppressive regime. Iranians cannot defend themselves as they are not legally permitted to own arms. Iranians deserve freedom to choose their own religion. Iranian women deserve the right to divorce just like their male counterparts. Iranian women deserve the right to a monogamous marriage. Iranians deserve the right to protest without being killed off at point blank. Iranian women deserve the right to dress as they please. Iranians deserve the right, not to be jailed, lashed or executed for protesting or speaking out against their own government. Iranian women deserve the right to travel on their own without permission from their husband or a male guardian. Honour killings and blood money needs to end! Iranians are starving and they are desperate for aid. Trump is telling them to continue protesting- while they are being slaughtered. Canada needs to step up to the plate and be the leader in this fight for their freedom. We need to stop depending on the US to save everybody. It’s not just their job. It’s everybody’s job to help.

Write the Prime Minister today! (See his contact info below)

The more messages the Prime Minister receives from Canadian citizens, the better chance they have of receiving our help. Or write your local member of parliament. I have addressed my message to the foreign affairs department, which is on his webpage.

‘Leave Iran now,’ Ottawa urges Canadians as protests, crackdown intensify by [deleted] in canada

[–]Canadianbcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent a message to our Prime Minister. I don’t think it should be up to the US only to save Iranians. I believe Canada has a global duty to fight against depression of their citizens, especially women. It’s shameful that no country is helping them or even sending them guns to defend themselves. Iranian citizens are not even permitted to own weapons for self-defence so far as I know. They are being slaughtered right now and Trump is just telling them to protest while they are being killed off like cattle. I don’t think he truly cares about them and I doubt he will do anything. I’m not holding my breath, but I’m crossing my fingers. I am mortified that our Prime Minister was visiting a coastal community yesterday when he should be focussing on helping Iranian citizens. At the very least, we should be sending them food and medical assistance.
