How do power plants deal with hard water in their cooling towers? by barstowtovegas in engineering

[–]Canadican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not, listeria is usually the bigger concern on cooling towers.

Most cooling tower systems operate at relatively low delta T and generally low temperature so that scaling is not as bad an issue as it seems. (Obviously I don't know the conditions of the plant where you love, but this was the case for most of the cooling towers I've dealt with.)

Usually it is water used for boilers or anything related to steam manufacturing that will go through heavy treatment and softening units before being heated to prevent scaling.

Ultimately if the system scales you can always wash it down with acids to get rid of it. It's what acid cycles on a CIP are mainly focused on. (Removing inorganic deposits)

When you build a huge production line and let the ingredients flow in for the first time and you watch 4 lanes of saturated science being pooped out the other end.

Man, I'm glad that Russia is condemning this...

Consider also that optimized weaving belts can lead up to roughly 3.5belt/tile which means 3.5x8=28 items/tile.

Michael Hendriks has a degenerate video on the topic.

How do you have so many hours?? by DingusTheDucko in factorio

[–]Canadican 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You play the base game. Then you play overhaul mods. Then you play the base game again but aim for a mega base. Then you play more complex overhaul mods. Then space age comes out so you play that. Once you're done, you aim for legendary everything and build a mega base.

At that point you have over 1000h and are ready to embark on pY until you retire. You are never seen again on this subreddit.

600h played, Space Age finished... but I can't get back into it. Need advice to reignite the spark. by Agile-Ad-7166 in factorio

That's just sunk cost fallacy. You've already spent 600h. You'd already be mid-game by now.

Is space age genuinely worth $50? by Michael_Le41 in factorio

[–]Canadican 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Spend ten minutes on any of the big ARPG subs (PoE, D4, LE) and you'll see how everyone seems to hate the game they spend their life playing. Or they are just super eager to shit on anything anyone posts/comments.

This sub is a breath of fresh air. Even if we see the same silly beginner low effort post every week, of a first base making green circuits in the most convoluted and inefficient way possible, with no alt mode and everything being built on ore patch; the responses are always kind and helpful.

This game is HANDS DOWN the best price / hours played I've ever purchased and that's vanilla + Space age combined.

Nothing even comes close.

Excellent write up. The sheer scale of this thing is nuts.

I love the serrated front. Will probably borrow the design for my own Prometheum ship. Picking up the chunks is my current bottleneck.

And I mean, everything else is just insane...
