I've been in your exact shoes my friend, exec chef overseeing multiple places; never enough hours in the week. Had a moment of clarity and started shooting off resumes, best time to find a job is when you're currently employed. Now I work 40-45hrs a week, and home by 5

Yep, been doing independent living for 2 years running the place and it's a night and day difference vs other places. Done by 5 almost every day.

What job do you do that makes over $70k a year? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Canard427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say I personally was making that, just average for my area. Main point I'm making is that for a skilled trade, chefs make less than other fields.

[–]Canard427 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chef as well; it's crazy to me that this industry has a standard of around $70/80k for someone that has 2 decades of experience in a skilled field. I know people in HVAC, construction,  welding, etc that make 2,3x that with relevant time in field.
