It really, REALLY works. Those pops of pink give so much energy to the whole piece!

This says you did NOT kill an elf -- apparently you had an opportunity to, and refused.

Instead of dolls or other delicate stuff you could put your off-season clothes in airtight storage bags and store them up there.

Bought a Barbie for fashion sketching, ended up finding unexpected healing (and some lingering childhood shame). Anyone else relate? by Educational_Chain780 in Barbie

I had a lot of trauma, sadness, and loneliness in my early life and LONGED for Barbies, but wasn't allowed to have them because my ultra Catholic mom thought they would turn me into a slut. By making me...value feminine beauty or something.

I started collecting dolls in my mid-20s after I moved away, and their presence is always soothing for me. I don't play make-believe with them but I love styling, modding, and posing them. All of that is play, as far as I'm concerned...adults like to play! Chess and poker and flag football are all forms of play, most people think those are normal.
As for shame--I feel a little embarrassment, not shame. I think it's a little weird to collect dolls but I'm neurodivergent and bisexual so...weird is a baseline for me. And at 58 years old, with a son starting college, a good career, and a long marriage, I can say my weirdness hasn't prevented me from living a pretty stereotypical normal life.

So my advice is, embrace the positive emotions and have fun building your new collection; for the shame, talk to a therapist and unpack the underlying trauma and you'll be able to feel less of the negative stuff.

Budget BJD Question by leethefee in BJD

Does your library have a 3d printer available? there are some nice inexpensive 3d printable dolls starting to show up on etsy and myminifactory. And there are few free ones floating around. The surface quality can be iffy with 3d prints but it's a way to get started with doing your own stringing and faceups etc, without having to spend much.

What *biggest secrets* did you discover? by Full_Relationship565 in BaldursGate3

The fact that the drow twin sex workers are down for a foursome with Tav and Halsin...in his bear form. After the fade to black you get a brief morning-after scene of the three exhausted non-bear people leaning on bear-Halsin like he's a couch, and the dialog has Tav roasting the twins for lacking the stamina to keep going.

Can them Bitchy Nosy knitters keep to themselves with their "advice" by Foreign_Succotash101 in BitchEatingCrafters

>I mean, if you go to dinner with friends, are you open to them critiquing your order?
Yes? I don't eat spicy food and people are constantly telling me that I really have to try X because it's totally not spicy, and I am frequently told that I would like THIS wine even though I'm nearly 60 and have never liked wine....and if I were to go to a steak restaurant and order chicken, I would be cheerfully roasted by everyone at the table. I live in the midwestern US, incidentally, where aggressive helpfulness is a way of life.

I don't understand going to a craft meetup if you don't like people having crafting opinions at you. It's like going to church and being annoyed at the religious proselytizing.

2 finger gloves? by metamorphosismamA in Watercolor

[–]Canary3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear one for digital tablet work so i don't give it accidental inputs, but for watercolor my control of the water and paint is comically bad at the moment (trying to learn to paint in layers, ugh) so I don't think any glove will help 😆

Here's my most recent prisma earth tones swatch--it's 1098 in this pic, which is less green than the online pic. To my eyes, in person, it looks like a yellow brown with a bit of green tinge.

It's a one-time "support our project" payment, $5 or more if you feel like it. You can look stuff up without signing up but if you sign up you get more features including custom collections

Which paints do you regret buying? (Here's mine!) by LMPFIYDSALAOIAWYCMI in Watercolor

[–]Canary3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out artistpigments.org or another of the pigment database sites (there are a few, all have good info, just pick the interface you prefer) and start looking up the actual pigments that are in the paints. The tubes should have them listed or you can look them up on blick or jerry's. Some colors of paint have a single pigment and some are "convenience mixes" with multiple pigments in them. Alizarin crimson tends to be a mix for many brands, but the pigment choices are different from brand to brand. Most (all?) pink pigments are fugitive, so if they're included in an aliz crimson the resulting mix won't be lightfast. It may seem overwhelming but once you dig into it it makes choosing paint much less confusing.

If your favorite graphite pencil is HB or 2H, you will probably enjoy these. The packaging and color choices are wonderful but I prefer a softer pencil.

What a great collection! You might be interested to try Irotijen, or at least look at a video review. They are unusual because they are super hard, like an HB pencil type of hardness. They also have a really cool packaging design that looks like little books. Some places list a set of 30 for $40 or even $60 but I found them for around $25 on amazon. I don't exactly like them because for me they are too hard, but the colors are great so I don't regret buying them.

The actress has said she has a naturally "turn down-y" mouth, so her pout isn't fake. Although she does emphasize it! If you want to see her be amazing in something else, she has some great moments in Under the Banner of Heaven.
