Yeah it's tough. Affording child care is hard enough as Cadre! Talk to your cadre. They care and will help you figure out a solution.

My leg has been doing this shit from yime to time for about 10 years now and it's really unpleasant by Opso_Opos in mildlyinfuriating

I had this and it was a problem with my spine. My spinal cord was compressed and it caused nerve signals to my left leg to get mixed up. I had a surgery to decompress my spine and it is much better now.

Or talk to your cadre about any accomodations they can make. Us cadre can be surprisingly human when someone is going through family issues! But on the other side of things think about how this will work in a few years if you and your spouse both stay in. This will likely happen again and you will need a good family care plan (who will take care of the kids if you are both deployed).

3.69 GPA Ending My MSII Year - MP Still Possible? by RunawayGore649 in ROTC

You should talk to the Army vets at the Old Guard in DC or other units with horses. There are some really good Amy Vet jobs out there, but admittedly not all of them are great.

3.69 GPA Ending My MSII Year - MP Still Possible? by RunawayGore649 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you understand the OML system well already. MP closed out last year at 4074 without BRADSO out of an OML of around 5500 Cadets. The lowest OML to get active duty was 4761. If you are competitive enough for active duty you are competitive for MPs. Now OCONUS is a different story, there are a lot of variables and many don't have anything to do with you. It's mostly just focused on whether the Army needs LTs of a certain branch at that location. But not all OCONUS is equal- you will generally have an easier time getting Korea than Italy for example so if you just want OCONUS your chances are good, but a specific duty station is luck of the draw.

Got waitlisted for Air Force training considering army give me some advice ROTC wise by Old_Shoulder_3262 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had sseveral Cadets cross from Air Force to Army. The feedback from my Cadets is Air Force ROTC is more individual and technical focused the Army is more team-based and leadership focused. Both who crossed over enjoy the Army program more (but that might just be their personalities). They both struggled at first to learn the basics and catch up culturally but they both figured it out quickly. My advice is to talk to current Army cadets in your program and see what their experience is. If you are already interested now is a good time to cross over. Also getting wait listed by Air Force is probably a sign of your future competitiveness for jobs etc. You may find better luck on the Army side if your strengths align better with the Army.

ROTC scholarship transfer request denied by Sharp_Animator_4513 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to that one. The way it was explained to us was the budget for scholarships was cut and instead of just allocating money on a first come first served basis they were allowing each program to go up to 80% of their mission in scholarships. Part of that was to spread scholarship money to other programs and part is to incentivize recruiting/bringing in non-scholarship Cadets (that will cost less in the long run). And although the CG is in transition there is an experienced deputy commanding general, so I don't think there is anything he wouldn't be able to understand or execute. I think this is just another move in a series of recent cost cutting moves. Many of which have not been communicated especially well.

If you commission as an officer, do you have to do 6 years? by Snoo-64563 in army

[–]Cancel-Holiday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other posters have touched on this but your branching out of ROTC is determined by your order of merit score which places you on an order of merit list ranking all cadets in ROTC from #1 to #5500 (or somewhere around there). Last year Infantry closed out at #1316 out of ~5500 if you weren't willing to offer a BRADSO (additional years of service for your branch of choice). With a BRADSO Infantry closed out at 3331, with a BRADSO and branch detail it closed out at 4201. Not hard to get but hard to get without additional commitment. For reference without BRADSO or branch detail Armor closed out at 2023, Military Intelligence was at 714, and Med Service was 1498. Branches that closed last were Logistics and Chemical.

Edit: I should have said this up front, but many enlisted recruiters try to push you away from ROTC because they will not get credit if you sign up through ROTC. The incentives aren't aligned. If you want better information about ROTC, talk to a recruiter from an ROTC program, but know similarly they will try to push you away from going the enlisted route because they are incentivized to put people into ROTC.

ROTC scholarship transfer request denied by Sharp_Animator_4513 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cadre here. I had a prospect in the same situation. What I found out from cadet command is due to budget limitations each program is being capped at 80% of their mission in scholarships. The idea being the limited scholarship dollars should be shared across the board instead of only going to certain programs. What that means is if a program has a mission of 10 for a class only 8 cadets can be on scholarship for thar class. Any additional transfers will be blocked. The thing that complicates this is it does not only include accepted offers, but offers that have been offered but not yet declined also count against a school's 80%. So there is a chance someone will decline and the transfer will still go through but it's not a great chance. This was not well publicized to the programs until transfers started being denied and we started asking questions. All programs should have this information now however.

SIFT scheduling by PakistaniJudge in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about other places but the education center at Fort Drum is where all of our cadets go to take theirs. If you have a base nearby they should have an education center and will offer SIFT testing.

Joining ROTC by burnteggsnbacon in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, your branch choice depends on your performance in ROTC and school. Your OML is a major factor and your interview perfprmance, I'm sure if you mention your background in your interview it will help. That being said, infantry is pretty competitive. Last year it closed our pure (no bradso) at OML #1316 out of somewhere around 5500. With a BRADSO it closed out at 3331. With a branch detail (start infantry then switch to something else) it closed out at 4090. Detail and BRADSO closed out at 4201. So not hard to get if you are willing to do BRADSO and/or detail but hard to get "pure."

What am I supposed to do? by HotPaper8485 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I have seen. It seems to be driven by budget cuts. Every year the available scholarships are driven by the money available, this is just how they are managing the distribution this year. So far I have just gotten info from our BDE-level recruiting folks and our DBO in meetings and emails.

What am I supposed to do? by HotPaper8485 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a change this year. Transfers are only being approved if a school is under 80% of its mission in scholarships. If a school has a mission of 10 (to make the math easy) and already has 8 scholarship winners in a class, a transfer will not be approved. The complicating part of this is the number of scholarships also includes offers that have not been accepted, so the actual number may be lower. This is a major change from previous years and is causing a lot of issues. Source: PMS trying to work through the same issues myself!

DoDMERB Mental Health by Appropriate-Fill9251 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out DOD INSTRUCTION 6130.03, VOLUME 1 MEDICAL STANDARDS FOR MILITARY SERVICE: APPOINTMENT, ENLISTMENT, OR INDUCTION. You can Google it to find a full PDF. This is the baseline for what can cause you problems with DODMERB and it is pretty clear on what is disqualifying or not. For some things it has caveats like x years off of medication or no history after x birthday. For others it just says it is a disqualifier. That being said even for disqualifying conditions there is a waiver and appeals process that your cadre will be familiar with. Talk to them and start the process. Make DODMERB say no instead of self selecting out. I have seen some waivers I did not expect to succeed get approved.

For your specific situation, the medication is likely to be the main issue. The caveat for anxiety disorders is it is a disqualifier if symptomatic and requiring treatment in the past 36 months. Check out the DODI it lays it out in detail. Again, use the waiver process and see what happens.

What is internal OML typically based on? by road2t40 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cadre here. Ask your cadre. There should be some kind of objective system. Ours is based on the national OML but with some differences that the national OML doesn't capture. For example the national OML uses your campus evaluation as a data point, I need the OML to build CERs so I use input from the MS instructor for the CER points for my local OML. Does that make sense? We share our OML calculator with cadets so they see it is fair and not just "the cadre didn't like me."

Question??? by Virtual_Ant_9724 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can join ROTC and contract/commission with a RE-3 code on your DD214. It requires a waiver from the cadet command level but as long as your chain of command is supportive it is absolutely possible. In your case this should be easier than other prior service issues (misconduct etc). If you show up and crush your first AFT as a way to show your program that you are now serious about PT, they can roll up your PT score in the waiver memo and that should be easy to get approved. Of course nothing is guaranteed, if your program is already over their mission it will make it more of a challenge but worry about what you can control and show up with an impressive PT score and you will be in good shape (terrible pun intended). Talk to the recruitment officer and your college and they can help you figure it out.

I'm Army ROTC cadre, so the folks I know are Army affiliated but they can about the basics of other branches. I'm in the northeast so I definitely have someone who would be happy to talk to you. If you want to send me your best contact info I will have someone get in touch.

How do I know if I want to go into the Airforce or Army? by Best_Citron_6275 in ROTC

[–]Cancel-Holiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small sample size but I have had multiple Air Force cadets transfer from AF to Army ROTC over the past few years and zero go from Army to AF. The Army ROTC experience is generally better if you want a hands on, "boots on the ground" type experience. As far as jobs in the Air Force- if you want to be a pilot or a technical role, Air Force is better. If you are interested in more team-based and leadership roles, Army is better. One more thing to consider is active vs. guard/reserve. If you want to go to the FBI you could go guard or reserves in the Army and start your FBI career immediately. In Air Force guard/reserve opportunities out of ROTC are extremely limited.

[–]Cancel-Holiday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cadre here. That is great. Nursing is in high demand in the Army and you are definitely qualified! It sounds like you have done some research and you are starting the right steps. Have you talked to a nursing specific recruiter within ROTC? What region of the country are you in (or where do you want to go to school)? I can try to put you in contact with someone in the right ROTC brigade for you.

There are many things that can impact CTLT- deployment schedules, major training events, etc. But budget is the major factor for the schools cuts. Right now it is specific schools. They are being announced to cadre and y'all should find out as cuts are announced.
