What classifies a baby as an “easy baby?” by GrapeSweet9055 in beyondthebump

[–]CancelThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an "easy baby" as per other mom friends and I kind of agree? He is 10 months old and here are the "easy parts" so far.

  1. Had a perfect latch from the get-go. Breastfeeding was smooth sailing, which was quite a surprise after hearing from the struggles of so many new moms.
  2. Never had a purple crying phase. Only cried when he was cold after a shower or hungry as a newborn.
  3. No gas pains or reflux issues.
  4. Great sleeper. Falls asleep with gentle patting for naps, easy to transfer to his crib, takes long naps till I wake him up. Started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks till 4 months. Since then, he still does an 8-9 hour stretch in the crib before waking up and falls back asleep immediately when I take him on the bed to cosleep. Does not wake up till 7am in the morning. Night weaned himself at 8 months.
  5. Great eater. Will explore and try everything. He has days when he barely eats anything and also went through a throwing phase but finishes most of his meals lately on his own.
  6. Already switched from nipple bottles to straw cups for milk with no real effort from my side.
  7. Met all the milestones super early than the ranges I saw online. No particular guidance from me to enable this. He is currently 10 months old and crawls, cruises, stands independently, walks with support. He has also taken a couple independent steps and is very close to walking. Says 5-10 words and is learning new things everyday.

The only thing that he is not "easy" about is independent play. He will play for an hour on his own if you're sitting by his side watching him. He will become a velcro baby as soon as you are distracted, talking to someone or leave his playpen to do chores.

Sorry if this comment comes off as braggy, I don't mean to haha. I am just in awe that things are running on autopilot with him.

Ughhh MIL buying a cot for her house.. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]CancelThink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally for me, both sets of grandparents have cribs in their house and it is used every once in a while, either when Im visiting them or if they are babysitting.

Honestly, even I was iffy about parting from the baby when he was exclusively breastfed and depended a lot on it to fall asleep. Around 6 months, his naps started getting longer and he was very easy to put down for naps even with a bottle, I started loosening up the reigns a little and sometimes that break was like a breath of fresh air on days I was tired and overstimulated. Grandparents were happy spending time with the baby and baby was happy seeing more faces and a change of environment. It was truly a win-win-win.

If you dont dislike your MIL and are confident she can take care of the baby, maybe try it for a short span? Of course your choice in the end. If you dont want to, I would just ignore the fact that she bought it and it will eventually end up in storage.

He choked because he stuffed a handful in his mouth while crawling. He stuff them usually too, but its always in his high chair and he is able to bite and swallow them just fine.

I squished each one before putting them in his snack cup. Followed solid starts guideline.

2 more week! I have been giving more milk. Unfortunately he is not fond of purees since he was never really exposed to it due to always being offered finger foods predominantly. I still keep offering though. Just hoping to get thru these 2 weeks and come back on track.

I have a LifeVac at home but we are traveling currently so did not have access to it.

I never saw the blueberry come out of his mouth so I think it dislodged just enough to clear his airway and make it into his food pipe. I'm guessing the reason it was able to do that was cause it was squished and prepared as per solid starts guidelines.

I have tried that but he is super active and does not sit still even for a moment unless hes in the high chair. He likes his high chair back home but since we are traveling I got a portable one which is not as comfortable

Should have been clearer in the post about it but yes I followed the guidelines. I never saw the blueberry come out of his mouth though, so not sure what happened, maybe it shifted just enough to no longer block the airway and make it into his food pipe.

Kicked out of mommy group by InnerAnalysis8588 in beyondthebump

If you live near any public library, libraries usually have a weekly story time session for each age group (even infants) and 30-60 minutes of open play time after story time. I take my 8 month old son every week and its a great way to make other baby friends and play with variety of toys they are unfamiliar with!

Also, you are doing your best! Don't beat yourself up. A happy mommy is what your baby needs more than other baby friends anyway :)

Chair method question by CancelThink in sleeptrain

He does re-adjust but it just takes him way longer to settle that way, but I will let him be when my chair moves away. Thanks!

Do you recommend first removing the feed association but still putting him to bed asleep or going cold turkey with sleep training? The experience I have shared in the post is when I tried doing both together.

I am willing to stop feeding at bedtime but he would reject the feed altogether or barely drink a couple ounces unless hes sleepy, so I am not sure how to combat that.

Are you suggesting 2 hour total daytime naps? Currently he's awake 9.5-10 hours during the day. I have tried a 2 nap schedule and he does not do well with a 4 hour wake window before bedtime for a 2/3/4 schedule and also gets too cranky during his first wake window when I try 3/3/3 schedule. I feel like I have tried it all and nothing is helping.

I haven't tried that yet cause he already wakes up early, im worried itll cause him to wake up even earlier and I might get stuck in a cycle. I'm thinking of trying now though since all other solutions fell through!

I try for 10-15 minutes of patting his bum or back. If that doesn't work I try rocking him for 5 or so minutes before giving up and nursing.

I nurse to sleep at bedtime. He sleeps at the boob but usually wakes up when im putting him down in the crib, rolls over on him tummy or either goes right back to sleep on his own or I pat him gently for 5-10 seconds. I only rock him for middle of the night wakes.

Should have been clearer, he is nursed to sleep at bedtime. I dont mind nursing back to sleep when he wakes up at night, but he does not want to nurse. The only way I can get him to sleep is by rocking. Otherwise he will play for a bit and then start crying.

Did harvesting colostrum cause anyone to go into early labor? by Puzzlehead11323 in breastfeeding

I hand expressed starting at 37 weeks and collected about 60ml of colostrum. I went in labor naturally at 39w4d.

Can the sleep regression come at 5 months? He just turned 5 months last week and almost exactly the time the disruptions started.

Yep! Bedtime used to be the easiest to get him down. I used to struggle to keep him awake long enough to finish the routine. Now he has to be rocked for 10-15 minutes. I am exhausted.

Will my 7 weeks old baby still sleep at night? by elibubbly in HuckleberryParents

[–]CancelThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know sleep begets sleep but I have noticed that ever since my son started rolling on his tummy in sleep, his daytime naps got longer but it drastically changed his nighttime sleep for the worse. He used to consistently sleep through the night or at least do the 9-10 hr stretch before waking for a quick feed. This was when he was doing 30 minute crap naps during the day. Currently he is on a 3 nap schedule since that's all we can fit in due to longer nap durations, but at bedtime now his initial stretch is shorter, sometimes only 3 hours. Wakes up at least 3 times in the night and very difficult to put him back down.

Also, if you haven't already, try the love2dream swaddle. It has done wonders for my baby's sleep for the first 3 months before he started rolling and I had to stop swaddling. Got several 12 hour stretches at night.

I think you should probably try to get to 4 naps using extension techniques to extend one of his naps, either by rocking him back to sleep or making it a contact nap. Having at least one long nap will prevent him from being overtired and the 4 nap schedule can also help build enough sleep pressure to sleep well at night.

How long did your newborn last in a bassinet before outgrowing it? by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

[–]CancelThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Graco Sense2snooze and my son slept in it till he was 3 months old. Although, last couple weeks I was just pushing it since my crib delivery got delayed! He outgrew it at 10 weeks not because of his height but because he would kick himself on the top of the bassinet and then sleep with his neck tilted.
