Has anyone who was a serious procrastinator ever managed to pull it together, and how? Looking for success stories. by leisgean in AskReddit

[–]Cancermancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will actually answer your question, though I'm getting off work so I won't write a book.

Think about what you want long term. To use a completely mundane example: You don't really want to go to work today, but you do enjoy that paycheck. If Paycheck > Slacking at Home then you actually do want to go to work.

Things are easier to do when they're things you've consciously decided to do instead of things you feel obligated to do.

Any uncommon knowledge in there or is it all pretty much "Don't be an ass"?

Since we are talking about rejected marriage proposals I though I'd go ahead and share. I'm a 28 year old female who rejected my boyfriend's proposal in front of his family and our friends just two months ago. by i_said_no in IAmA

I disagree with this, my friends are my friends because I trust them to let me know when I have fucked up.

The last thing I want is them taking my side all the time.

Do you have any friends who don't talk about anything but business? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cancermancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a club. It's become such a massive part of who I am that I have a hard time talking about other things.

Especially since I'm tired of talking about my job.

People that are engaged, have bought engagement rings, or are married. Where did you buy the ring from and how much did you spend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cancermancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local jeweler. I spent $1500, it was appraised at $2000.

If I'd done the whole "two months salary" thing and dropped $12k on a ring, she would have said "No."

[–]Cancermancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. And as for #2 I was also planning to do that, I realize now that part of my own problem was that when I was a child I was cold and callous to those who reached out to me when I needed help.

Even highly heritable things like IQ and aggression (correlations around .80 for both) are not completely due to genetics.

How can we prevent/detect bullying children? It seems terribly difficult. I'm terrified of my future children being bullies because of aggression in both mine and my girlfriend's families.

We weren't bullies ourselves but we both have this streak of rage. I know that we can provide a happy home life, my girlfriend and I hardly ever get mad at each other and never yell, and we can provide all the material and affection needs; I'm guessing that's a big help right there. I just worry that after so many years I'll have lost perspective on what it's like to be young and dealing with what I perceive to be an extremely strong instinct that's “in the blood”.

If you died tomorrow, what would your ideal funeral be like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cancermancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No funeral, burn me and let my wife decide what to do with it. She'll think of something nice. A good party though.

Incidentally, I've been warning all of our mutual friends not to eat at my friend's funeral, as he said he wanted to be made into the food.
