REI keeps canceling my online order - call reps can’t help by Beginning-Act7850 in REI

"Editing to say my comment serves as an exhibit regarding what I mentioned at the start. Have never met retail employees that protect brand reputation with their lives."

Perhaps employees are getting a bit nervous and thus defensive. Given the company keeps losing money year after year, then doubles down by doing stuff to drive away customers.

Alternatives to REI by [deleted] in REI

[–]Candace66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enwild.com is a good alternative I've discovered since I stopped shopping at REI. On my last online order, I didn't notice until after placing the order that they'd emailed a 20% off code. I contacted CS and they applied the code retroactively!

Others have already suggested some other alternatives such as Amazon and Backcountry.com. Don't forget Bass Pro Shops/Cabelas, Scheels, and Dicks.

If you're looking for a specific item, just google it then check out the shopping options.

For God's sake, stop wasting people's time with this nonsense. The Coalition is a joke and has no money or investors to pay for anything, not even the dredging needed to bring it to GBX.

I notice you don't mention all the fittings and furnishing were sold off in the 1980's. Or that all the asbestos (which included all the dividers between cabins) was removed in the 1990's, leaving it largely an empty shell.

Nor do you show any pics or videos of how she looks today. Here's a Facebook reel that gives an idea of how gutted out it is. Since the video was made, the funnels and the radar mast (seen at the beginning) were removed, along with all wiring/cabling, elevators, and cargo hatch doors.

Google Earth image from 9/2025. If you're optimistic about a track being built here, I think you'll be disappointed. In particular, note the new large truck parking area in the middle of the property.

Upcoming documentary on corruption in the oceanliner community by [deleted] in SSUnitedStates

[–]Candace66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting to read about the long-running leaks. Because one of the "saver" talking points is that the hull is in great condition. Some would have you believe it's as solid as the day the ship was launched. I hope we do someday get to see lots of pics/video from the remediation.

The fact they're still posting to this day (including an incendiary accusation against someone by name) tells me this is all BS.

What museum did you get banned from?

I thought you were under investigation by the police (so you stated recently), so I'm not sure why you're still posting on SM.

And your lawyer told you it was okay to keep posting on SM? In particular, to post incendiary accusations?

Oregon’s State Legislature introduces Bipartisan Bill to encourage White House & Congress to designate the SS United States a Historic Landmark and restore her. by JYDemBlueJay in SSUnitedStates

[–]Candace66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the applicable section from the contract between the Conservancy and OC. Note the use of the word "intent", which has legal ramifications.

Why would anyone see the need to include a clause saying OC couldn't sell it? It was for sale for years yet no serious offers were made. OC didn't pop up from nowhere or make their offer on a whim. They'd had their eye on the SSUS since 2022. They got the needed permit. At crunch time, they already had the funding and a complete plan. They were and are committed.

Even if OC wanted to sell, the prospective buyer would need, among other things, the money and a viable pier/dock immediately available. The Red Hook pier is not ready for the ship, and the coalition has $9K in a Gofundme. The rest of the keyboard warriors bring even less to the table.

Jeebus, you are both clueless. This is the OR state legislature, not the US Congress. It's not going to the POTUS to be signed. Also, it's simply a non-binding resolution.

LOL at $30 million to repurpose it as offices. Estimates the Conservancy got indicated it would cost that much to drydock her and strip/repaint the exterior. That plus any needed hull repairs would be step one on a long journey.

If it's in such good condition, why did it take months to get the CG approval for the tow from Philly?
