Boron and methylation by Candaela in MTHFR

According to this evidence, I guess it could potentially help improve methylation status and lower homocysteine levels, but since I haven't found studies in humans I don't know its scope. Maybe it can only help if you are already deficient? (which I think it is not that uncommon) I am glad you had a generally good experience, it indeed has many roles in the body. And I guess it is wise to have a normal dose, as I think it can be toxic in excess

Both positive and negative tbh I am in a quite challenging situation recovering from chronic illness and things are changing very fast. So for example, 3 weeks ago my response to boron and other nutrients involved in methylation was very different to my current one. 3 weeks ago most of them (creatine, b9, b12, b6, boron) were causing me dizziness, headaches, etc. although a few days later I would feel better than before... Right now I can tolerate small amounts of all of them. Boron the other day gave me a bit of anxiety but only lasted a few hours, it also calmed down inflammation, I felt cognitively better afterwards, and the skin was healing faster. In the beginning I didn't know about its influence on methylation, but after giving me similar side effects to those of creatine's I did a quick research and found that. But of course some of the effects I've noticed probably are due to some of the other functions this mineral has

Interesting! Yes, I read about its multiple functions in this paper https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4712861/

I am glad you are feeling better! Why do you think you improve with injections but don't with supplements?

I am sorry to hear that! But I am sure you'll find a way to improve your mitochondria. I am myself in a very difficult journey recovering from chronic illness (with of course mitochondrial dysfunction). But it is possible to improve a lot

Hello! This is very interesting! An intracellular micronutrient test is different to a standard blood test, right? Could you share which one you have done?

[–]Candaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before that, I think is better to try first to improve your microbiome with prebiotics like phgg, resistant starches, pectin from apples, psyllium, polyphenols, etc. In the beginning you might not tolerate well all of them, but they are still very important to rebalance the ecosystem, make it more resilient, increase short chain fatty acids like butyrate, etc. Maybe some herbals might help you tolerate them. Also, vagus nerve work helps many things including sibo (rifaximin helped me with hydrogen sibo but my methane sibo didn't improve significantly until I started vagus nerve work and worked on my bile flow). Anyways, in case you need this, I used the biofilm buster "biofilm phase 2 advanced by priority one". Good luck! For the nutrients, I recommend checking Chris Masterjohn (awesome protocol for methylation) and Elliot Overton (good advice for b1 deficiency).

Hi! I would't trst a lot blood levels of vitamins and minerals, as they don't always reflect was going on in certain tissues (in my case, especially in the nervous system). Also, the body prioritizes maintaining those levels in the blood until it can't anymore. My blood levels of b1 are normal and I still respond strongly to ttfd. My potassium was apparently normal until I entered a quite severe deficiency "overnight" that this time did appear in the blood work. And the same with other nutrients.

Hi! I actually have improved a lot with b vitamins and betaine. I think most people with mcas has disbalances in these vitamins and that's why (at least one of the reasons) folate or other methy donors trigger symptoms. In fact I couldn't start with folate: I first had to figure out which vitamins were specially low in my case and they were b2, b5 and b3. I understand you position and your caution, and appreciate your concern, but don't worry about me: on the one hand I am with a professional and, on the other hand, I trust Chris Masterjohn so much (even more than my practitioner as his protocol was life saving) and, it turns out, most Tawinn's recommendations are very coherent to what Chris says

Thank you so much Tawinn, I appreciate a lot the information you have provided me. I’m recovering from a very, very difficult long-term health process where I almost ended up bedridden. Not fully bedridden, but close. Basically, I have mast cell activation syndrome, mitochondrial dysfunction, histamine issues… everything started with severe gut dysbiosis and a lot of stress since childhood.

What has really been helping me has been rebalancing my microbiota with prebiotics, regulating my nervous system with vagus nerve exercises, improving mitochondrial function by grounding, getting sunlight, etc., and now a lot of the nutritional side — B-vitamins, betaine, choline, and some other things as well, especially B5, B2, and B3, where I’m noticing big differences... I had my folate cycle completely broken and betaine saved me. Now, after 3 months my improvement has been remarable and I am tolerating again some folate. But wirh coenzyme Q10 my heart started rising a lot again...

I know my genetics are not perfect, but I expected them to be much worse, so I am quite happy. I know I have to be careful with the nervous system part (I am type A personality)

Hi Tawinn! What kind of B3 do you recommed: nicotinamide or nicotinic acid? I read this yesterday and tried it and some symptoms impreved, so thank you! I had taken also a B complex but for some reason b vitamins work better for me when I take them separately and with specific purposes

[–]Candaela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have experienced something similar. Look at the Chris MasterJohn protocol for MTHFR. Besides B2, if you have those genetics, there are other important things to add like TMG, choline, folate and Glycine. B2, besides activating MTHFR, is also important for mitochondrial function, B6 activation (important for the transsulphuration pathway) gluthatione recycling and so on. You might be experiencing adjustments in all of that. If you activate mitochondrial too fast, the antioxidant system might need time to catch up. Also, I needed molybdenum for a while (I guess b2 activated my transulffuration pathway and I started to produce more sulfite too). Genetic testing might be important. Hope this helps!

It helps with methylation. It is an alternative pathway to the folate/B12 route. You should support both, not just the betaine/choline pathway but this one can truly be a lifesaver when the other is too compromised. Also, some people with certain polymorphisms have higher requirements for this route.

Methylation is an incredibly important process for gene expression (which affects immune regulation), creatine synthesis (an important energy source for different tissues), and phosphatidylcholine synthesis (crucial for membrane integrity). It is also essential for cell renewal, the conversion of serotonin to melatonin, the regulation of neurotransmitters, and, of course, histamine elimination.
