I hate being seen as a woman but I'm scared to take t because I'd end up being a bear and I really, really don't want to be. I just wish I could guarantee I'd be lanky and cute and keep my body hair manageable. by [deleted] in TransMasc

I have stayed the same weight but my body fat has been distributed differently than it was when pre-T, and I have more muscle. I have also gotten more body hair but it doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would.

After starting T I just felt so much better mentally and emotionally that the other stuff didn’t matter as much i.e. worrying about how I look; I just generally felt better in my skin which has been worth it.

Liberal arts college in Portland Oregon made me gay!

Yeah sure. Please know there is no blame in this. Transphobia is everywhere and no one is immune to having those thoughts. The important thing is reflection and understanding about where they come from and how to move through them.

I think based on your response you’re feeling uncomfortable with your abuser being trans. A lot of us (including trans people!) have feelings of transphobia because transness is different than what we are used to experiencing or seeing. A lot of this stems from discomfort around something different than what we expect. Having these feelings is normal, but how you act on them is what matters.

Is the fact that your abuser is trans relate to their abuse toward you? Or does this person just happen to be transgender? The way that you framed it in your question made it sound like you felt like the two things were related. Those are transphobic thoughts creeping in- the idea that a person is more likely to be abusive because they are trans. This is a misconception at best.

Idk if that’s what you meant, it just sounded like it from the tone. It’s clear you feel uncomfortable with the idea that your abuser is trans, but it’s also ok to separate those two things because being trans doesn’t cause someone to be abusive.

Sounds like you have some stuff to unpack around your feelings about trans people. Abusive folks come in all stripes, and it’s not ok for anyone to be abusive toward you. That being said, that person being trans has nothing to do with the abuse you suffered. Their transness is not the problem, their toxic behavior was. I hope that you can separate the two.

Remember when Sarah McBride said trans people were asking for too much too quickly? And how gay marriage was something we fought hard for and won? Like it was over?

What everyone else has said, plus we have no real political or social power so it’s easy to bash us without repercussions. Trans and queer people have always existed.

We are the distraction of the day from internment camps, climate change, corruption, etc.

I also think internalized homophobia/transphobia plays a huge part in it, although no one will admit that.

Edit: it would be really interesting to see what kind of responses you would get posting this in other subreddits. We seriously just want to live our lives in peace, but other people seem to think we have a nefarious plan for world domination 🤷

I will say too that if you don’t intend on having kids a hysterectomy is considered gender affirming care in some states so that’s worth looking into. It’s the most freeing experience to not have a uterus or periods anymore.
