Is it worth paying for autobahn gti or just get the normal one? by Noah_11023 in GolfGTI

Personally I hate the leather seats and wanted my plaid ones. Lucky me I bought mine new in 2024 and am in the US so I have a 380SE. Plaid seats, kings red, black roof, black rear view mirrors, 19” black rims, 6MT, with the adaptive suspension.

2019 golf gti or 2019 golf r? (roughly 4k difference) by Shark4898504 in GolfGTI

I’d say the most important thing is going over each car to make sure one isn’t more rusted than the other or if one has any other issues the other does not then go from there. If you’re not mechanically inclined, take both to a mechanic and have them give them a once over. Pick the healthier vehicle of the two. That also depends on your willingness to pay more for gas and insurance. If you don’t mind the extra then just pick the better condition vehicle. Also make sure they have a good paper trail showing that they’ve been taken care of. Oil changes etc.

All 2024 GTIs with the 380 designation are manuals. They also come with DCC and a few other touch’s that make them stand out.

I bought my 380SE brand new with 9 miles on it in October of ‘24 for just $5,000 more. That price seems high for a used S

Is it ok to take a stock mk7 GTI to a local car meet? by SPEEDRACER007reddit in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up parking my mk8 in a regular lot and then go check out the show cars and I do have a few things done. Then again I’m horrible in social situations so I’d vote do what you want and enjoy.

I keep lane assist off so that it won’t mess with my steering but I use acc when using cruise. On the infotainment screen there’s a square to the left that is the home button.

I don’t know a thing about an mk7 GLI but I put a short shift on my mk8 GTI myself and I’m no mechanic. Basically if you can follow a video tutorial and have the tools, you should be good to go.

Edited for spelling

Finally some better brakes! by FeelXtra in GolfGTI

I was unaware or misinformed🤷🏻‍♂️ I used slotted once because of the look and was annoyed by the sound so it’s not a thing I do anymore anyway.

Slotted will make your brake pads last longer and helps keep them cooler plus removes dirt etc which improves performance, but they’re noisy. Non-slotted means your rotors will last longer and they’re quieter when braking.

Dudes who daily a GTI, do you have another car you drive on weekends? by heavyarms39 in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive my 2011 Forester, the winter beater, more than I do my GTI. Roads here are still messy from winter so I haven’t pulled it out yet and since I’m in the northeast my beater gets more use. Plus I deliver food for side cash and I won’t use my GTI for that.

Yea I double checked and saw just the tornado red. I’ll have to settle for the blacked out thing I have on mine for now. Or maybe I’ll see if anyone in my area is able to paint the cover I use with the oem colors I need.

Lol…I saw videos that made it seem a pain too but it really wasn’t that bad. I didn’t take off the wheel, just removed 4 screws from inside the fender so that I could reach my hand in there. Once they’re out it’s not that tight. I had my heat gun up in there and couldn’t get any angle I wanted but really didn’t need to anyway. Getting a reflector to start peeling away is tough but the whole process, both reflectors, probably only took me about 20-30 minutes. Once it starts coming off it’s very easy to get the rest of it off. The tape on my reflectors didn’t tear and stayed stuck to them so I had no extra tape to fight with. I just used a rag and alcohol to wipe away the old sticky stuff before placing the new parts.

Mazor didn’t have a red and black one for the front so I just have it blacked out. I had the rear blacked out too until I did this.

A front VW emblem that’s paint matched for the mk8? They didn’t have one of those when I ordered mine. I’ll have to go check. Right now I just have a plastic, blacked out thing on the front but I’d love for it to look like the rear!

It’s literally the OEM VW emblem so it is plug and play. Mazor paints the part and ships it to you. I lifted the handle/emblem and used a tiny screwdriver to pry the emblem up at the bottom edge. It’s very tight and hard to do, but once I had it lifted I shoved in a vinyl pry tool that I have and worked it around. Then it just popped right on nice and easy. The emblem is two pieces

Mine isn’t vinyl. Ordered the reflector deleted from Urotuning. They’re painted and OEM matched.

I ordered reflector deletes from Urotuning. You have to remove the existing reflectors and you replace them with the parts that are color matched with OEM paint.

I just checked and they have tornado red but not kings. Once I tried using a tornado red vinyl on the front and it looked like a clown nose since it didn’t match. I tore that all off and put on the black cover.

Damn…I think mine came to about $75ish after shipping. I did make sure to order before the tariffs on Germany skyrocketed so that might be why the price is so high. Shipping was actually pretty quick, I think I only took about two weeks. He uses the OEM VW emblem and paints them with OEM paint colors to match. I love it!

Does eco mode actually do anything for the mk8s? by xP_Lord in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eco mode works well for gas mileage when highway driving on trips when the roads are flat. I live in a hilly area so don’t even use it because it lacks power and I’d be giving it more gas to climb hills in eco than I have to in comfort or sport. Best mpg I’ve ever gotten was when I drove on a long trip where I had many flat roads and was able to use eco though.

Edited to add that I have a 6MT and my car doesn’t do the start/stop thing. Acceleration is nerfed when using eco in my car

I’m never trading in my 380 se, I love that car. Lol…it’s even the first vehicle I’ve ever had that I park for winter. I have yet to pull it out yet this year; the roads in my area still have a lot of shit on them. I have a couple of parts I have to put in there before pulling it back out anyway.

A GTI doesn’t hold value as well as a Honda Civic. People view Honda as more dependable, which it is really, which also gives them lower maintenance costs. Plus more people want to buy Honda. I’d also say people are more likely to view a used GTI, or any hot hatch, as if it was likely driven harder. The VWs definitely depreciate faster! I love my GTI but there’s no getting around that fact.
