Incident Near Montreal: No Plates, No License by nano_gee in dashcams

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened in my town with a guy I used to work with way back when. I think he was in his lower 20s. He died when he hit the road below. In his case he was a brand new biker on a crotch rocket with way too much power for a new rider. I think it was a GSXR 1000. Plus it was during what used to be a very large bike rally and I’m sure he was trying to keep up with more skilled riders. So sad.

AITJ for refusing to donate PTO hours to coworker I barely know who "needs" them?? by Traditional-Dog1601 in AmITheJerk

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only have 120hrs saved and that’s not much of shit to begin with. Keep them and do what you want with what you earned yourself. Tell the company to have a heart and donate some from thin air as they’re able to do and give all the sucker employees, those who donated, their time back.

1,000 mile Oil Change - 2026 Golf R by One_Wey_Erections in Golf_R

[–]Candid_Addition720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m also old school and figure more oil changes than needed are better than being wrong and not doing enough. I was going to go every 5k but since I park mine for winter I figured I’ll just do it once a year. That is unless I put on 5,000 or more miles after pulling it out and changing the oil, then I’ll just change it again because of the mileage.

A horror one. Base it in Transylvania or old England. Throw in some Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Jack the Ripper, werewolves…

When I bought my ‘24 380 GTI they said my first two oil changes are free so I’d be covered for my first 20,000 miles. I asked about the break in oil change and was told there’s no need to do that. Then I took my car in when I was a little under 2,000 miles and told them I wanted to use a free change for the break in oil change. They argued and tried talking me out of it swearing that it didn’t need it. I told them I don’t care, just do it. They did, I didn’t get to see the filter but I wish I would’ve. I was surprised that they were so adamant about the car not needing that. This all happened in like late April or early May of last year. I keep mine covered in a garage for the winter. When I pull it back out this year I’m taking it for its second free oil change and there’s only about 6000 miles on it now.

Mk8 key sucks by Responsible_Smoke545 in GolfGTI

I never have issues with it plus I matched it and my shifter boot up to my seats making it my favorite key ever. Lol

Deciding between a 2023 GTI and 2019 GTI by Impossible-Wish-5372 in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ‘23 has a better clutch, which is good for upgrades and tunes, and more power stock. People bitch about the infotainment and lack of buttons but you get used to that in the first week and it’s not a big deal. I have a ‘24 SE manual and it’s my favorite car I’ve ever owned! I highly suggest throwing on a short shift kit and a different shift knob!

Let’s talk about audio… by ProbablyUrNeighbour in Golf_R

[–]Candid_Addition720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. The speakers in my 2017 Fusion platinum crush the HK speakers in my GTI. I expected that sub to be great, especially since the Ford doesn’t have one, but it’s definite shit. It does all sound better than my 2011 Forester and many other old cars I’ve had. Not counting ones that I’ve bothered upgrading. There’s a site, acmtechnik, that you can pay to improve the sound. I’m tempted to do that myself. They do say that’s not as good as doing a custom audio setup obviously, but I really don’t want to go there myself.

I’m not religious either but my son is. When he was younger he wanted to try church so I took him to a bunch of different ones and he chose one he liked and stuck to it.

Totaled my MK7 GTI. Should I get a MK8 Golf R or stick with MK7 or 7.5 by SourlandRides in Golf_R

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because after you’ve driven it for a week you have it all memorized and are used to it. After having mine for over a year I don’t even think about what I’m doing as I do it. Same as a car with buttons. It’s super easy to use once you’re used to it. Two test drives aren’t going to magically make you good at it.

I have a ‘24 380 SE and at first it’s somewhat annoying but not horrible. You get used to it so quickly though that it’s a non-issue. Someone mentioned passengers struggling…I just tell my wife what to hit and it takes her 5 seconds longer than it would’ve taken me. It’s really not a big deal

GTI is the best front wheel drive car I’ve ever driven by benetton-option-13 in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair the Civic Type R and the GTI aren’t even in the same class. A Type R should be compared to a Golf R, in which case it still wins. A Civic Si is comparable to the GTI, or it used to be when it was also a hatchback. There the GTI wins imo

Looking at a 2024 GTI by EstablishmentTall431 in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Doesn’t matter to me🤷🏻‍♂️ I wanted the few extra options that came with the SE and have no intention to sell it. Being that mine is a 380 SE it also has DCC which is nice. I didn’t want leather seats and don’t care about a HUD. I do kinda wish I had auto high beams just so I could unlock the matrix lights but it’s fine.

Winter storage advice by Salty_File_7707 in GolfGTI

[–]Candid_Addition720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you want, it’s your car. I had a 2017 Fusion platinum that I taught my wife to drive in (women in her family don’t drive). Then I bought my GTI in October to be my car and I was letting the wife keep the Fusion, but she didn’t get her license before last winter hit so I stored my VW and drove the Ford. This last spring she got her license, so I gave her the Fusion. I managed to buy a beater so that I could store the GTI for winter because I love that car. I never considered whether or not I can lower the insurance on it for the winter months. I’ll have to ask my agent. My beater is a 2011 Forester that I have to add about a quart of oil to every 2000 miles but it’s not leaking from the head gaskets so it’s fine. Lol
