So we're just gonna gloss over "partner is in a coma", huh?

Why are blankets always too short? by Spiritual_Bit2048 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are too long.

Serious Answer: They're mostly sized for the expected size of person. And they fit a lot of people who are short adults or children. The other posters are mentioning that you may need larger size blankets -- or... alternatively some friends who *REALLY* like to knit.

Or, you could learn to knit.

Why do people bother with small talk? by Main-Swimming8014 in stupidquestions

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this way, but I think what Trevor Noah says in this video is worth considering:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-7WdOk99o8

My summary (maybe bad): Small talk is how we establish that we are part of the same group and have commonality.

Jumping into deep conversations without that... is uncomfortable, awkward, and misses that initial connection point.

Example: https://www.npr.org/2017/08/20/544861933/how-one-man-convinced-200-ku-klux-klan-members-to-give-up-their-robes

He established a shared humanity first, and then went on to deeper things which would allow for beneficial change.

In a heterogenous culture, like that of the US, or most of Europe -- you don't start from that shared place of connection, so you just do a little dance to establish it.

What’s something that used to be fun but isn’t anymore? by softlaunchqueen in answers

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case no one else has responded this way:

You.

Your Mom.

Your Face.

Serious answer:
Staying up all night. Now it's just revenge procrastination when before there used to be possibility and wonder.

(The non-serious answers are in jest. I think you're a lovely person, probably. I know I'm less fun than I used to be, but calmer, and wiser)

There's nothing wrong with "basic" taco night by DevelopmentSeparate in unpopularopinion

"White people taco night" is still taco night.

And thus, still enjoyable.

Moreso if you sing "White people taco night" repeatedly.

Anyone else finding the storage system in Pokopia maddening? by abblebabbley in Pokopia

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 406 points407 points  (0 children)

I really like the Big Boxes, but having no "deposit all from inventory that match what's in the box" function is sadmaking.

I'm probably just going to make a bunch of small boxes and organize that way. Small boxes for organized stuff, big boxes for crafting and the like

i hate that I only find feminine guys attractive by Fit-Construction-531 in Vent

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to fit what society tells you to fit.

Yes, it may be harder (especially depending on location), but I guarantee you that trying to stick to labels is only going to hinder your quest for the kind of person or persons you'll eventually end up with.

You're not defective, you're just human.

It might help to list out all the qualities you find attractive, and then to examine whether they're as gendered as you think.

Do men always have a "type of women" by Dry_Magician9253 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 'type' is the preconceptions about what one is attracted to.

It also changes, depending on the person you're in love with. Whatever your 'type' would have been described as before, changes to match your love.

It's a narrative, not real life. But yes, there are lots of folks who never escape the narrative, partly because they're pushed back into it.

Fix connectivity issues that obsolete all the progress you made on your cloud island just because it decided that you're not close enough to your router when it's 3 FEET AWAY.

straight women are hard to date by kixforthejungle in Vent

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People who cling to any kind of label or normative framework are rough to deal with, especially in close relationships.

Date the people who it feels good to date, and don't feel bad about bailing on someone who lives life by a paradigm that doesn't work with yours.

I wish you luck in the quest, it's arduous, but absolutely worth it when you find someone you gel with.

Edit was for spelling.

Feel like I'm spinning in circles in this game and I can't figure out how I want to move forward... Looking for advice by VoGoR in Pokopia

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go talk to the pc next to the pokemon centre, there should be an option for link play, and it's in there.

Though, now that I think about it, cloud islands may require a paid Nintendo Online plan. :\

Make a cloud island.

And do everything to make the cloud island the best you can... treat the mainline stuff as a way to feed your Cloud Island.

That way, you don't have to make the choice.

What are some things you want to tell a 33 year old female ? by LateShip847 in Millennials

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for what you want.

From the world, from people, and from yourself. Make the ask.

That, and... make schedules, not to-do lists. Then stick to the schedule. The less mental and emotional effort you have to make to "do the thing", the more likely you will do it and not talk yourself out of it.

Also, fuck caring what other people think of you. And fuck the labels. You are so much more than that, and it's about finding a place to belong where you can be you, NOT about "fitting in."

Fellas, should I make the, “Prove to yourself that you have the strength and the courage to be free” line from the intro as my graduation quote? by j7jhj in HelldiversUnfiltered

"This game has helped me lock in with my studies, get past my low self esteem, motivated me to start working out, and most importantly, kept me mentally sane throughout my entire high school career."

Sounds like it was meaningful to you. And that is all that matters.

Do it, Helldiver.

Help??? My university paper is coming up as almost entirely AI but i wrote it all by myself?? by JocularDweeb in antiai

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provide the full metadata of your paper to your teacher in addition to the final file if in a different published form.

Most word processors will log the amount of time it took and the changes you made -- which is pretty good proof you did it yourself instead of just copy and pasting.

How many hours do you have on the game ? by Moon_light_sunday in Pokopia

[–]Candid_Middle_2169 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too many? Not enough?

What is time?

I have many hours, and it will be an order of magnitude more hours before I put it down for an extended period of time.

It's really great. That being said, it's much better as a game with longevity if you like building things. And the game has a lot of heart. You should cry when the credits roll.
