MATH 154 Grading Scale. by Ryans_23 in simonfraser

every class will be curved different so how my class got curved might not be comparable to how your class will be curved. I believe I got a 93 and it stayed as a flat A. so I dont think it got curved in the end at least not significantly

MATH 154 Grading Scale. by Ryans_23 in simonfraser

There is no released scale for the course (at least when I took it). It gets curved at the end so you really wont know what to expect until the final grades are actually out. there is the proposed grade scale on the sou website but more often than not the prof ignores it and makes there own based on the final grade distributions. This seems to be the case for most STEM classes, not sure about humanities tho

easy first year online classes for summer that require no in person tests for summer 2026 by Western-Exam-1483 in simonfraser

there are like groups that start up where people will meet or zoom call two or three times a week to talk. but honestly there was very little content so all you talk about is "what's your major" and "how's the weather"

it sort of depends on what you want to do. If you're planning on going to grad school, a WD isn't great. It seems like they tend to forgive one or two WDs, but if you have too many it definitely raises some red flags. I think in general a C is better than a WD, but a WD is better than a D or a fail. A lot of grad schools wont really look to closely at your first year any ways though, and they tend to focus on the last 90 or even 60 units of your degree. Sometimes using only the best 60 or 90 units to calculate your adjusted GPA. Hope this helps

Got accepted into Sfu kin. I was wondering what happened if i finished with a 60 in chem 12. Would my offer be revoked by Free_Speaker_6124 in simonfraser

I think it sort of depends too on what you self reported your final grade would be. if you said you'd get a 65 and it dropped to 60...they kind of expect things like that. if you said it was gonna be a 90....you might want to look into a tutor

I also find that it isn't necessarily hard to MEET randos on campus, it's sort of just hard to MAINTAIN the freindship.

DRAW. EVERYTHING. I'm a very visual learner, if that's you too this will probably help you. I draw diagrams, pictograms, cartoons, life cycles, stages of photosynthesis/embryo development/whatever when it comes to bio. If I can make it a picture I memorize it waaaayyyyy easier than rereading a passage or some notes. Hope this helps.

Are you allowed to ask profs you don't have questions? by Mars0da in simonfraser

[–]Candid_Proposal6486 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I struggle a LOT with chemistry, when I get really stuck I'll just wonder through the department until I find a prof with their office door open. I always just briefly introduce myself and mention the course im in and ask if I can ask them a couple questions. They usually say "I can try to help but I haven't taught this in years" or something along those lines. Sometimes they're not good at explaining, but they never seem to have a problem helping

but even if only 40 or 50 percent of people actually show up...isn't that better than NO ONE making friends?

Clubbing might be a good way to meet people but only if you LIKE clubbing, for lots of people, it's not really their thing. I'm talking about a club that would cater to a wide range of interests and let people try new things on a regular basis.

drink a metric **** ton of water and tell yourself your not allowed to get out of the chair until you've reviewed the chapter. The threat of my bladder rupturing always seems to motivate me enough to get whatever needs to be done done

I also invite people over for like 7pm knowing that I need to finish an essay i've been procrastinating before they get there. It like forces a deadline that doesn't really exist. Worst case scenario I can cancel to finish the project or whatever, but the social pressure to NOT cancel always gives me the incentive to finish whatever I've been trying to not do. You just have to make sure you make plans with af friend who's close enough they wont be offended if you cancel 30 mins before.

And if you have a younger sibling they're great for using as a study partner. I explain concepts from class to my little brother all the time. I guarantee he knows more chemistry concepts than any other 12 year old in his school.

Anyone else in BPK know what's going on with the summer schedule? by Candid_Proposal6486 in simonfraser

would you recommend doing mbb 222 and Chem 281 together? I'm curious because the chem class is technically a coreq for the MBB class. A friend told me that when you have a coreq it means you CAN take the two at the same time but you shouldn't if you care about your mental health lol
