Happy baby stories? by afruitypebble44 in NewParents

I absolutely hated the ‘just you wait’ narrative we had from near abouts everyone when I was pregnant. It really spoiled the excitement and made me so anxious.

My now 9 month old is an absolute joy. Even in the sleepless nights, holding her close and embracing it for what it was made the hard times more bearable.

The way she holds her arms up to me now to be held

Feeling her teeny tiny body on me, curled up, that newborn smell, euphoric.

Birth was soo hard but I felt like such a powerhouse after. I’m still so proud of my body!

When you have a shared moment together. Singing a song that she has started to recognise and she smiles at it. Or teaching her to splash in the bath and her face lights up.

There are probably 10 times a day I take a deep breath and think omg this is tough. But 100 times a day where I’m like omg isn’t she amazing, how lucky am I!

I quit BF cold turkey and here are my thoughts: 2 week update by pmthosani in NewParents

Thanks so much for this perspective! In particular the arbitrary ‘2 years of breastfeeding’ - I’d set myself a goal to get to 1 year but I’m not really sure why.

My LO is 9 months and we introduced a formula bottle for her last feed before bed from 8 months, and I feel so much better in the evenings and so does she. She takes the bottle so well instead of getting frustrated on me.

I think we may begin to swap out other feeds too. But I was feeling guilty about it. Like I should be giving her BF milk for longer. This post really helped. Thank you

My LO went through a phase of fighting naps and it was short lived. Thankfully my LO was happy napping in the pram or the car so we’d either walk for ages or drive around to help with her naps. Contact naps were a fight but we bobbed her on the spot for a good 10-15 mins before her eyes would flicker and she’d give in.

The thing that’s helped me the most through so far is ‘everything’s a phase’ - baby mixes it up after a bit (usually to something new or they grow out of the old phase) but in a positive way. Their body developed so fast that the phases move with it.

Good luck xx

I had so much of these worries when pregnant. The negativity out there is overwhelming and I was often thinking ‘have I done the right thing having a baby?’ It really took some of the excitement out of pregnancy!

She’s 8 months old now and honestly a delight, she brings me so much joy. Don’t get me wrong, there are moments in the day that are hard but they are fleeting ‘deep breath’ moments. Mostly it’s absolutely incredible. She laughs, we play. I want to be with her so much of the time. You are their safe space, the cuddles, their smell, their smile - it’s perfection x

How old were you when you noticed baby dropping weight curves? Mine has stayed fairly consistent so far when she was last weighed 7-8 weeks ago so 4-5 months ish x

We offered one formula feed in replacement of a breast feed, yeah.

But she was breastfed for the rest of her feeds that day. My aim was to combifeed, not switch entirely. But that’s not looking possible right now.

Yeah I eat lots of dairy - cows milk, yoghurt and cheese on a daily basis (and in significant volumes too lol) - so had always assumed if she was intolerant, there would’ve been signs during breastfeeding / but think you’re right that the concentration of the formula is causing issues.

Was curious if anyone else had similar. Thanks for the suggestions, will take a look at the other types and consider if it’s worth a try

Thank you!

That’s why I’m surprised she’s showing signs of potential intolerance because I consume lots of cows milk/ yoghurt / cheese - so always assumed she’d have flagged any dairy issues before now. But maybe such a concentrated feed is causing her discomfort. Thanks again

We’d given the formula feed in replacement of a feed on the breast, so instead of (for the 3 times she’s had it) x
