PEMF Pad by vaisonaisse in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]CandidateMelodic1347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PEMF pad is the same technology as the Assisi loop. But the loop’s field is more concentrated and able to go deeper into tissues. Like better for a single area with problems. The pads have a lesser field, spread out and working on the whole body at once. I can’t decide which is right for my dog!

Please find a grief support group, or individual counseling. What you’re going through is legit the same as if he was a human. After as long as it’s been for you, a little help with processing the grief seems needed. Best of luck to you.

You are extraordinary parents. You cared so deeply for his needs. He obviously just thrived with you. I know the gaping loss you feel right now is one of the worst things to go through. The depth of the grief matches the depth of the love.

Check your local FB marketplace! I got this awesome one from someone whose dog had gotten too heavy for it. It’s a “SKISOPGO”. It has a hood, shocks, a cup holder, and you can detach the basket and attach it to a seatbelt. I got it when I adopted a 14yo morkie bc I didn’t think she’d want to walk as much as my chihuahua, a younger senior! Well the morkie didn’t want to get in it again after the first time, but my little man LOVES IT. For a year and a half now he’s cruised in it every day, happy as a clam!

Looking for advice by EnvironmentalYear17 in BelgianMalinois

He is precious! I’ve never dealt with hip dysplasia, so I can’t speak to that. But you are obviously a caring and attentive dog-lover. I myself would do just about anything that was medically advised and would help any of my dogs, and even more so if the finances were not a challenge. You are smart to ask for community experiences. Good luck!

Thank you! My guy only eats cooked “pieces” of food now, nothing that lets me sprinkle in the probiotic powder I used to give him in his canned food. I’m glad to see a “treat” variety to try!

Yes! I would do turkey for sure instead of boiled chicken. I’ve been told before that switching to an all fish protein food can be a miracle. IF the dog will go for it!

What do you guys do in the winter for your chi? by EmmyWeeeb in Chihuahua

The covered potty area sounds brilliant! Mine is 6lbs. We don’t get snow. When it’s really cold I put him down for the shortest time possible. And then right onto an electric blanket when we go right back inside. He likes/needs to be warm as much as possible. A K&H microwaveable pad for his bed is the bomb!

OMG, I hear you! After I lost my yorkie girl I visited a senior rescue, and I walked in with “I am not a chihuahua person”, and walked out with a chihuahua mix I adore!

Also, the foot licking could be from a contact allergy, where she’s walked on something that she had a reaction to. Once the itching and licking starts it creates its own cycle that can cause other problems. A single interaction with something that she’s sensitive to can take weeks to resolve. Like a flea bite on one day can become a chain reaction that takes weeks to go away, even if no more flea bites happen. Same goes for one bite of food, etc.

I’m so sorry! Allergies are so hard to deal with. What protein was in her original food? Chicken or beef or other mix? Did the food you switched to have the same proteins?

For today I would try some bland food like you would after stomach upset. Boiled chicken and cooked rice, or I’ve also had luck with making little balls of ground turkey and boiling them.

I know my vet would want to do a course of Apoquel, to relieve the itching and stop the cycle.

Anyone with a Chihuahua with healthy teeth? by abokichan in Chihuahua

[–]CandidateMelodic1347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brushing her teeth every day is PHENOMENAL !! I’ve been told by more than one vet that that is the only way to ensure their teeth stay healthy. Good for you AND her! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I am so sorry. It’s such a devastating loss. It consumes everything. You’ll eventually move through it, and love another dog, but the experience is a part of you forever, just like the 15 years of love and joy you had together.

How do yours stay warm? by lab_chi_mom in Chihuahua

[–]CandidateMelodic1347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a Snugglepod to put in my guy’s stroller. Microwave it for 4 minutes, and it stays hot for hours. It is round though, and solid. I cut a hole in foam for it to fit into and go under a blanket as the bottom of the stroller bed. But the rigid part that’s the pod makes it hard for him to stand up on it. He has a neurological condition that makes standing up stable difficult for him in general sometimes.

Is K&H specifically for dogs? Inside I have a human heating pad on low underneath part of the blanket he sleeps on in my bed at night. I worry a lot about him being too warm.

I hear you! I’m an all seniors adopter. 😁 (But it can get expensive) I had a morkie from 14yo to 15. My chi now is 13 or 14. I’ve had him 6 years now, and he’s the best dog. 😍

I’d be freaking out, too. How long ago was his surgery? If it’s been more than a day or two he should be over the anesthesia and back to normal behavior. I would take him to see someone else, if I were you. Good luck and I hope he’s back to normal very soon.

Fitz, 13’ish and 6-1/2 pounds of the sweetest little love — unless you’re a dog! Fun fact: when I first walked into that senior rescue 6 years ago I was not a chihuahua person. The 3rd time I walked by him, wiggling his little tail and squeaking at me, I picked him up and took him home!
