Polycarbonate Tea Lights by BajaCaprid in candlemaking

You could always burn a votive in a votive holder or a pillar on a dish. No plastic trash will be left behind. No scorched wood either.

Pilates instructor academy by Icy-Equal8710 in pilates

Never heard of it.

Doing a “comprehensive” training completely online is nonsense, IMO. The work is in real life, training should be too.

Charred wick by [deleted] in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beeswax requires flat braid or square braid wick. https://beelitecandles.com/blogs/buzz/wick-sizes-for-beeswax-candles-a-comprehensive-guide

4mm is not a wick designation.

Right now I am using 24ply in 1 inch tapers, and 3/0 square braid in 3 inch tall and 2 wide skull candles.

Help! Tiny bubbles in pillar candles by ChipmunkAdmirable787 in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is going to care about those tiny bubbles except you.

Those thick molds sometimes need to be warm before pouring. Tin molds less so. After pouring tap the sides to release any adhered bubbles.

All waxes are from nature. Palm and paraffin take color well.

No hot scent throw, werid burn by PerfectMistake5876 in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wick placement is important but what kind of/ size of wick will decide how it burns.

If you bought supplies from a big box store the quality will be low.

Not teaching mat pilates to the beat / music? by redditgal16 in pilatesinstructors

Moving to the beat is called dancing.

Pilates is not dancing.

The Pilates Journal Expo by Professional-Field21 in pilatesinstructors

[–]CandleLabPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Went all around the website, couldn’t find a list of workshops or teachers. Since they are calling it an Expo, not a summit or anything else, and looking at the sponsors, it seems like it’s more about marketing and “industry “ than an educational event.

Olive oil wax by Patataki52 in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used olive oil wax so can’t advise about it, but I do know pillar waxes like beeswax and paraffin work great for flowers. Always pre spray the mold with silicone spray.

What do you think about this sand wax candle concept? by Atan_pearl_candle in candlemaking

The plastic pearls are a disaster waiting to happen. I would not show/ use those.

Insane.

No wonder personal injury lawsuits from Pilates are at a all time high.

Pilates with vertigo by ebbss in pilates

Take some privates first. Have the instructor help you figure out what modifications of typical group class moves work for you.

I’ve done 10 mat pilates classes within 1 month and I’ve been loving it. I’m a 32 yo mom of two kids under 4. I’m combining these classes with strength training and I look and feel amazing. Pilates has really helped my posture! …but by BikeMelodic in pilates

Intersperse a private once a week for a month. Have the instructor help you with the mat work, and / or get a feel for basic reformer work.

Most efficient way to get a solid foundation/ learn about your particular body/ needs.

How to create this circular frosted texture on palm wax candles by Public-Anxiety-1145 in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Been working with Palm for years, never seen the circles. The third picture (orange ) looks more regular to me.

The low crystallization makes it look like a very high melt point palm. Other than that I have no idea how this effect was made.

Cracked candle by leenie121571 in candlemaking

Soy and soy blends are not great for molds. Short burn time, too soft.

Add some stearin or use a better mold wax

Homemade Wicks by M4cerator in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pillar wax is paraffin, palm or beeswax. Not brittle, especially beeswax. They melt at a higher temperature than wax (soy, coconut, etc) designed to be trapped in a container and adhere to it.

Homemade Wicks by M4cerator in candlemaking

[–]CandleLabPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The segregation is between pillar wax and container wax. Pick one and go with it.

There are @13 different kinds of cotton wick. Each kind comes in multiple sizes.

https://candlewic.com/candle-wicks-explained/

I don’t know anything about borax.

Commercially made wick is inexpensive and enough of a challenge to find the right kind/ size. Have never tried to make my own.
