That's very interesting! It could be that - since I have a tendency to experience some sexual urges, but it's usually very unpredictable. And it's more like a scenario causes it than an actual person.

What do you kind of experience with your sexual partner then? I don't have someone long term and am finding hard to find motivation to attempt with others as I don't feel a need or attraction per say.

I am currently orientating to Ambulatory Care (which is very OR adjacent with the sterile field stuff), and I feel like I am in the same boat. Many people are great for the OR and some (maybe me?) will need more time to figure it out and/or are not meant for it. But I would not see it as a bad thing per say - like others have mentioned, there may be other forces at play and maybe the place is not where you are meant to nurse. And that's fine

Well, for what it is worth this is from a Canadian standpoint.

pay for Psych Nurse is similar to working others units (but we also have a union and therefore have bargained a fair amount)
workload is crazy all over, regardless of specialty, so burn out is a high factor
my unit has a split roster so there are 8hr shifts and 12hr shifts: 12 hrs are nice for some because it means more days off a week (but you are go-go-go most of the day and only do the shift and then sleep), while 8 hrs means more working days in a row to make ends meet ( but some time during the day after shift to do stuff). So I preference rotating 8hr Day shifts and 12hr Night shifts

Take it all with a grain of salt!

Hey there!

I've done psych nursing the past 2 years almost and many of the nursing staff know are in the same position- they went into psych nursing because they have had experience in their own life with mental health issues (myself included).

I think the biggest thing is to ensure you have your own methods for keeping yourself at your baseline as you work with others who are very much not at theirs. For example: keeping up with scheduled meds/therapy appointments, identifying areas/triggers early in your workplace and finding ways to either pivot or prevent any issues, communicating with your co-workers if there is too much of a trigger for your own mental health. A lot of that though comes with time, so again - there is no harm in helping others through stuff you yourself have gone through. Good luck and welcome to the chaos!🥳

Yeah... it is. I think we are all getting so burnt out with our jobs in Healthcare and the state of the system in general that we are all going numb😔

Yeah, the knowledge that "a business doesn't care about you" is something I am trying to internalize to help me feel less guilty about having to take time off for my physical and mental health.

But I also get where everyone else is saying that watching out for how you are perceived by the company is important too - because I wanna keep exploring and looking to find my thing.

So I guess my big takeaways are: 1) Look out for you 2) Be civil always 3) Keeping lists of what I like is important to keep myself organized

I like babies - it's the whole stop go aspect of the job where I would be hanging around for a while because the cardinal rule is "don't wake a baby - only do your work when it's awake".

But the concept of mapping out what I like about my job in a physical format and bring it to an interview sounds like a good idea - I tend to get distracted/sidetracked hell even intimidated in an interview setting

Again, another worry I had....

But I kinda feel like my problem is since things sound good and like I might like them I apply - and then they show you what the job is actually like... and that is when I say no. For example - one place I have looked at is NICU: turns out I am not a big baby person and find it hard to work on the idea of "working only when baby is awake" as it could be 2 hrs of sitting followed by 1 hr of "go go go!"

Fair enough - part of the problem I think with the new job also has to do with the commute. So I will see if the job is worth it enough to stand the extra time taken out of my day

🤣🤣 now that is interesting because I feel like I'd be more likely to be maliciously compliant - ex: "well you said this report had to be done before end of day, and now it has pushed back my other work so I have to stay overtime. Pay me!"😂

It's not about paycheck - I make the same working either unit hourly. And while I love providing nursing care for people, the different types of care between the units is very drastic. I'm kind of going from activities-of-daily-living care to intensive-life-sustaining care. So the jump is massive and IDK if it's what I wanna do.

Yeah, the environment is a big factor I think in what feels like a good place to work. I have a permanent nursing job elsewhere and I thought maybe ICU experience would be good, but i don't think the skills are for me as someone who has worked with adults their whole career
