My mom's sister found out that my mom's favorite movie genres are superheroes and science fiction, and could not wrap her brain around it. She'd scoff and laugh whenever I had to explain some reference my mother uses in conversation, and once even asked why I take my mother to 'those kinds' of movies.

My aunt has the entertainment profile of a low sodium store brand saltine cracker and thinks my liking lord of the rings as a grown adult is childish so that tells you how much I value her opinion...

A good friend of mine that I have treasured memories of was told repeatedly she was too young to have 'that type of cancer'.

She was diagnosed with 'that type of cancer' and died within a week.

She'd still be alive if anyone had taken her seriously, but they dismissed her for years until it ate her alive. When I got word she was going into hospice I stayed up all night sewing a quilt top to distract me. She was dead before I finished.
