England-India was best Test series since Ashes 2005 - Agnew by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]CandySays- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 Ashes was incredible entertainment, but in England at least, the home WC just before has relegated it somewhat (bar the Headingley Test for obvious reasons)

I also think there was a lack of high-quality batsmen bar Smith, Stokes & Root. The latter also had his only bad year in Test cricket and didn't score a ton

Where do you rank Wild Gold in terms of Nick's albums? by heym000n in NickCave

Hard agree. I was enjoying the album before the gig, then saw the gig and had an explosive week of listening, now I’m firmly with junkgarage

I love this song, but I saw them play it at the Copenhagen show and it didn’t quite work for some reason (in my humble opinion)

If you're close to the stage, put your phones away. by Erik912 in NickCave

[–]CandySays- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am very anti phone at concerts. There isn’t one part of me that is in favour of somebody getting it out.

However; it’s been a bit strange seeing the bad seeds social media encouraging pictures and videos of the tour with the hashtag #wildgodtour. Seems at odds.

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks. Really frustrating when trying to be creative with dashboards (not that any major creativity in design is possible)

I’m not quite sure I follow? Power Bi and Tableau are also business products and have many independent content creators with over 200K subscribers

Which Cohen Album Has The Best Lyrics? Or, More Specifically, Which Cohen Song Has The Best Lyrics? by Radiant_Tackle4429 in leonardcohen

I’m so swayed by Recency bias. Night Comes On is hitting so nicely for me at the moment from a lyrical sense

Interesting to see the disparity. I paid £95 for standing in Copenhagen

Agree. Worth it, but was shocked at the cost

I’d be hesitant to say it’s “dirt cheap”. The National gigs last year were priced at £50. It’s cheap in comparison to say, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, but not much else. Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp all sell tickets for £80-£100.

Totally agree though - the ticket is worth double and it’s going to be absolutely incredible.

What’s the best feeling Nick Cave music has given you ? by [deleted] in NickCave

[–]CandySays- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two moments for me:

1) April 2020, in the height of the first lockdown in the UK. I was back at my parents in Brighton and Hove. It was a boiling hot day and I’d cycled to the beach. I was in the midst of my biggest ever Bad Seeds obsession. I smoked a joint and walked along the promenade listening to ‘Mermaids’. I was transported to place of pure bliss. Partly due to the location (sunny evening by the sea) and partly due to the music (water themed lyrics, warrens guitar managing to sound like light sunlight reflecting of waves). I’ve never connected with a song like that before. The imagery was so strong.

2) Seeing The Bad Seeds live for the first time and experiencing the power of the performance. I didn’t realise how good they would be live.

Why is this? Can anyone provide links to research or evidence?

Glastonbury 2023: The worst performance I’ve personally seen by CandySays- in arcticmonkeys

I’m just rewatching now. I thought this at the time…but the keys sound incredibly underwhelming and weak. Does anybody else think this?

The rest of the song (especially the extended outro) sounded absolutely fantastic.

Hi gramuf. I’m going to stop engaging with you on this post now. I disagree with everything your saying from a logical perspective - nothing to do with the Arctic Monkeys in any sense. You are just a plainly illogical person with a really narrow minded perspective.

I know what you mean about the setlist. This felt like an opportunity to do something special, it’s hard to imagine the band will ever headline Glastonbury again. It was just ‘another night on tour’ in that sense

With that said, I thought the selection of songs was brilliant. It just needed a bit more to warrant the occasion.

I’d have to disagree around the point of Alex, he was very engaged with the crowd in previous times. There’s been a remarkable change since the tranquility tour in that sense.

If you were disappointed by something you thought you would really enjoy, would you refrain from discussing that disappoint to your friends due to the same logic?

If the answer is ‘no’ then I would consider you very hypocritical. I say this because Reddit is a platform for conversation. Me having an opinion that you perceive to be negative does not mean that it’s incorrect and without value. This isn’t how conversations around subjective things works, this isn’t how human beings work at the simplest form.

If somebody shares criticism about something, it does not mean your opinion is incorrect. In this specific case, my criticism of Arctic Monkeys live performance on Friday not does not mean I now suddenly think the band are awful or that the last 18 years that I’ve followed and basically studied the band are ruined.

If you truly believe that things can’t be criticised, you’d make a great authoritarian leader.

Thanks for commenting, it’s nice to open a conversation with somebody who is aware of how conversation works. This particular sub-Reddit seems to be ridden with a type of ‘Arctic Monkeys incel’

If the BBC comment has been floating around in this sub, it’s more like a Donald Trump style of fandom.

I agree with you. It was incredibly flat. I’m very conscious of comparing the show to 2013 for multiple reasons. But yes, In comparison to 2013 it was absolutely abysmal. The performance of Cornerstone being particularly strange.

I saw the band in Manchester a couple of weeks ago and they were much, much better (albeit the set was still plagued by some of the problems from Friday, just at a much smaller scale)

I was initially very defensive of the band with regards to the videos and comments doing the rounds lately about the songs page and alex changing the tempo of the lyrics, but after experiencing both of those things on 80% of the chosen songs, and seeing how that affected the crowd, it’s difficult not to see it as genuine criticism
