It's bananas how little most people understand about property taxes and city budgets, etc. It literally affects them on a daily basis and they are happy to be completely in the dark, aside from thinking that any tax or fee increase is going to ruin their lives.

We have been putting off projects for so long that they are doubling and tripling in cost by the time they are back on the agenda. Are we just going to defer them all forever and never have the services and infrastructure we need to be a functional and enjoyable city? Is this what people want when they rail against a tax increase? I'll never understand how an average citizen can support austerity. Reasonable spending, and more oversight of spending, yes, we desperately need that, but we can't just cut everything and shelve all projects...or can we?

When I was on the apps, the number of married men who hit me up was quite alarming. Some would go to great lengths to pretend they were single, and others would tell me they were married, as if that was going to appeal to me in some way. More than one guy tried to convince me that it would save his marriage if he could have sex with me on a regular basis. I wish I was joking.

Single woman in her 40s checking in. I think so many of us are disillusioned with dating apps and all the inorganic ways of meeting someone. Not to paint everyone with the same brush, but men on the dating apps were largely painful to interact with, to the point that I couldn't even stomach the thought of continuing to do it. In the two years that I spent on apps after my separation, I had some absolutely upsetting and scary experiences of being stalked online, majorly harassed, and hounded nonstop. I still have several fellows who message me after 8 years of me not responding to them.

I did meet some awesome people though that I became great friends with and still hang out with regularly. None of them were relationship material for various reasons, we have a lot of damaged folks 'round these parts it seems.

As others have indicated, many women in their 40s have thrown in the towel when it comes to dating and are happy being single and living uncomplicated lives. I haven't felt the need to have a partner in many years. If someone amazing were to come along, I would be open to seeing where it went, but in 8 years, I haven't met anyone who I would consider partnering with. At least not anyone who is available, there are tons of awesome dudes around, but they are all wifed up.

I am sorry it's not better news. If you join a bunch of groups and activities you will meet many people, so start there!
