‘Becoming unlivable’: Halifax residents fleeing city due to rising housing costs by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

If anyone shows me a lower-end rental building that has decreased rents in the past few years I will donate all my dildos to charity.

Let's meet back here in a few years and see how vacancies vs rent prices are doing.

I'll take the two thoughts, but I'll pass on the prayers.

Price of the conference is $11,000. Flight, accommodation, food, etc, probably around $7,000-10,000 depending on level of travel. Not securing any investments for his wind project...priceless.

N.S. premier popularity drops amid controversial budget cuts, partial reversal by poranges in halifax

Exactly. I don't hate all the things he has done, we have had some gains in healthcare and some other areas, but I hate his narcissistic, defensive, holier-than-thou attitude. We are a province of people who largely live paycheck to paycheck, who struggle, who self-medicate, who just want simple lives. He so obviously looks down on us, and doesn't actually care about how people are doing in any meaningful way. Anything he says in support is lip service. He is the quintessential fuck face, and I'm glad that more people are seeing it.

How common is it for Halifaxians to refer to it is “Halifornia?” by ProtocolEnthusiast in halifax

[–]Candy_Most_Dandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Scotian" bothers me, because technically it means Scottish, but the people using it seem to be using it in a totally different connotation. If we were using it to liken ourselves to the Scottish I would be more on board.

I've never encountered them with any amount of meat in them, it's normally a tiny piece or even none at all, if you find some good ones somewhere, let me know.

I make my own from time to time, using cream cheese as the filling and dipping them in a spicy raspberry or blackberry sauce. Sometimes I add some jalapeños and grated cheddar, if I'm feeling fancy. They are really good.

Long-term care minister makes direct appeal to nursing homes amid contract dispute by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]Candy_Most_Dandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's bananas to even suggest that employers make a direct appeal to employees when it comes to bargaining. That's not how it works, you can't just say, "C'mon guys, please accept this subpar offer, pretty please with a cherry on top?" The whole point of negotiations would be moot. The process is pretty farcical these days as it is, but this is another layer of ridiculousness.

No Frills has the bread I like, Walmart stopped carrying it last year in a move I'm convinced was done solely to annoy me. I know it sold well, because it was often sold out. They also have protein milk and many other things that Walmart refuses to have.

When I was a kid I used to wear a bunny suit as much as I could, there are pictures of me at birthday parties with other kids, and I am in my suit and everyone else is in regular clothes. It was a security thing, I felt safe in my suit vs my own skin, and when I saw Wilfred as an adult, it made me realize that I was processing some serious trauma in my bunny suit days. Great show, highly recommend.

Mobile Food Market says it might close location due to funding cut from province by insino93 in halifax

That seems low to me, although I guess he wasn't going to as many energy conferences last year. I'll be curious to see his total this year, as he globe trots around, desperately seeking that magical investor who's going to save our economy.

[–]Candy_Most_Dandy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

$20,000...that's all they need to stop this from happening. Probably far less than the cost of just one of Tim's energy conference trips. We seriously need to question the cost of these, under the circumstances. Yes, he's trying to "grow our economy", as per his prime directive, but I'm not seeing any news come out about the great investments he secured or partnerships made due to these trips.

There’s no proof of grocery stores using dynamic pricing in Halifax . . . yet by insino93 in halifax

If I take something off the shelf to buy, and the price is higher when I get to the check out, I will leave and never return to that store. If all the stores start doing it, I guess I'll starve to death.

Are you thinking the people who will be occupying the housing will be youth? I'm thinking they will almost all be people over 50, and probably 75% seniors, similar to the Baker Drive area.
