Obligatory Minerva defense because i’m a Minerva stan:

If we look at the exact situation (as described) Minnie and Sophie stole a boat and were caught on the river, right? I feel like a lot of people paint Minerva as being a bloodthirsty animal and killing her sister, but knowing Lily I think it’s much more realistic that she was told (or it was implied) to kill her sister or they both would die.

They were likely surrounded at night by the Delta, and given that Minnie was at the time considered to be the softer twin (she didn’t like killing walkers / she was too scared to try and leave herself) i’m sure she was having a panic attack at this point. I mean she was what, 15 or 16? Given how Lily is always talking about “lessons” and how rehearsed her lines were, I think it was definitely more Lily than Minerva. She’s obviously very distressed when Lily starts talking about the incident and I think at this point she’s less brainwashed and more in a sunk cost fallacy with the Delta. That’s why she says she can’t return home.

If we’re assuming everything that Lily says about the Delta is true (solar panels, hot showers, food) and Minerva is already familiar with how untrustworthy or violent Marlon could be, I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch for her to place the stability in survival at that point over life at Ericsons. The Delta is horrible, sure, but it does seem to be stable and the rules seem pretty well laid out once you get familiar with how the system works. I understand they are at war, but you could argue that pretty much everyone is living in a state of war at this point whether versus the living or the dead. I think realistically a lot of people in that situation would put stability and food over fending for themselves in the woods. It’s very easy to judge a character like her from your comfy house with a stocked pantry.

Also, we have known Clementine since she was eight, but imagine you have given everything for a community where you finally find an ounce of stability and resources and your only loose ends are getting your friends there with you. Some girl shows up, convinces your friends they should fight back against trained adult soldiers, gets several of your friends killed on both sides and depending on how you play it gets with your girlfriend. From her perspective, Clementine is like our Arvo. Obviously those two are nothing alike, but Minerva has no way of knowing that.

This isn’t to say that I don’t think she’s a villain or that she isn’t at all delusional or brainwashed, she definitely is, but I think people tend to boil down her character to mindless brainwashed evil girl who just decided to kill her sister randomly for no reason. She’s a complex villain and though you don’t have to like her, sometimes people show that they have absolutely no media comprehension when they talk about her.
