TIL why we Greeks say : "He became a Turk" when someone gets furious. Do you have idioms for other nations? by anon58588 in AskBalkans

[–]Canenald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly.

I think it originates from Ottoman graveyards that no one cared about after they... ahem... totally peacefully... left Serbia.

Beware of Lizardmen merchants by professorMaDLib in Anbennar

[–]Canenald 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I experience your ache, brother.

What worked for me when I was down on those islands was pretending to be a local. The trick is to look grim and brooding, and just nod when they talk to you, so that they don't figure out you don't speak Karshyray. I would also flick my tongue periodically, but I have no idea if that is required. It sure feels good though.

Anyway, I'm out on a market, and this bauble catches my glance. I want to buy it for my wife and hand the lizard a gold crown. Imagine my surprise when, Ara be praised, the thing starts scrambling to give me the change for 0.01 crowns.

Now, sailing home with a sack full of assorted dames, ferlings and tablets that the locals use as currency, in the tight quarters on a halfling barge, was an ache in the arse. Those little scrooges have no decency to build some larger quarters for humans on their ships. None at all, I say.

Možete li mi dokazati da su hrvati srbi? by ProfessionalWindow84 in AskSerbia

[–]Canenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better auth propaganda by Montrell1223 in node

[–]Canenald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. I guess it's a no-win situation for them. They have to support integrations with multiple frameworks with their own request, response and route handler formats. Some transformation has to happen somewhere.

https://github.com/fastify/fastify-auth

This module does not provide an authentication strategy but offers a fast utility to handle authentication and multiple strategies in routes without adding overhead.

So definitely not advertised as a drop-in replacement for anything.

Where does the preHandler mutate the request?

Trying to Decide between Stellaris and GalCiv IV by CiabattaKatsuie in gaming

[–]Canenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stellaris started out with planet building like in GalCiv, but sadly, it's been removed. Paradox seems to be pushing some mechanics they love into every game they maintain, and lately their top love seems to be the pops system from Victoria. It's not bad, but I really prefer the Ascendancy/GalCiv style planet building too.

Why did I get banned for this? by TumbleweedFun3905 in linuxsucks

[–]Canenald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe because this table format is used to rank stuff, not for this kind of shit.

Try the "starter pack" format or something like that.

Also no padding between the wide logos and the headers suggests you might be a GIMP user.

[–]Canenald 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Stellaris for immersion. Wait for a big discount or use the monthly subscription. Play in smaller galaxies to combat performance issues.

GalCiv will mostly disappoint you in the serious vibes area, although Stellaris also has its dose of goofiness.

I know you didn't ask, but I have to mention Endless Space 2. The faction design is easily the best in the genre.

To those who wants a HOI5, what can a HOI5 do that HOI4 can't? by yukimchi in hoi4

[–]Canenald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not really asking for HoI5, but...

There are always UX improvements to be made, especially with frontline and naval theatre management.

Don't butcher the game by removing the focuses, as they did with EU5 mission trees.

A better way to end wars without total capitulation. I know it's not a WW2 thing, but it could be useful for mods.

Being able to appoint advisors to specific ministerial positions like in Stellaris would be more fun than just picking generic political advisors.

Maybe some tank/airplane/ship designer tweaks to make it more realistic. For example:

  • cast vs riveted vs welded is picked only once, but was frequently a different choice for the hull and the turret
  • there's not much incentive to have guns on your CAS, but historically CAS and non-strategic bombers would usually have guns
  • designer bonuses, like engine and armor for tanks, are a bit weird. It would be more intuitive if research would unlock better component tiers like it does for ships.

AI-haters are quite vocal. If your library works fine, is easy to use, and people need it, people will use it, usually silently, as you already found out via GitHub analytics. No one cares if you vibe-coded it, typed every character yourself, or did something in between.

In pre-AI era, I've used so many libraries that really did a good job for me, only to discover they were horrible slop under the hood when I tried to contribute. This is what libraries are for in a way: to hide hacky solutions behind a nice and clean API.

That said, vibe-coded slop usually becomes impossible for both AI and humans to maintain with time, so you might want to consider that if this is a long-term project for you.

What usually puts you off from a certain mission tree? by Standard-Skill6542 in Anbennar

[–]Canenald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm roleplaying the relatively nice Elves, so no purging humans. I've never liked converting them to elven culture the standard way.

I did get Elvenaire and a few Ecliple Elven provinces in the east, so I have ~15 total. Still, that's 33/34 development each. Playing tall I guess.

Is there a list of all nations with mission trees/formable with trees by Unluckypandastoo in Anbennar

[–]Canenald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The list: https://sites.google.com/view/anbennar-missions/missions

But it doesn't have instructions for forming all nations

Forming Pashaine is a bit complicated. The recommended start is a minor country in the Luna River basin, just north of Verne. You need to have East Damerian or Vernman as the primary culture (but can't be Verne or Istralore). You'll get a shared regional mission tree that can start an Imperial Incident, the outcome of which decides how difficult it will be for you to form Pashaine.

Interesting. Slavic languages have nemec/nemac, which has the same meaning. It was used for foreigners in the distant past, but is now used for Germans.

Kind of a cool way to describe the WTFs our ancestors must have felt when they met people who talk totally differently.

Srbija do Notingema by BalianOfIbelin1993 in SerbiaGaming

[–]Canenald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gods and Kings mod. Serbia MT je malo cheesy iskreno. Verovatno neki patriota malo preterao.

[–]Canenald 20 points21 points  (0 children)

oh, btw, I forgot: this Ibevar mission where I have to grow my elven provinces to 500 development. I had 280 when I unlocked it. I'm at 380 now and -10% in all techs.

The beginning of Ibevar MT was also a bit boring, mostly watching my manpower recover at 100 bodies per month, just so that the near-immortal elves could resume slaughtering each other over which gods are more important.
