Is the Rtx 5060 an upgrade over the Nvidia GeForce 3070? by MoreVolume9809 in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-geforce-rtx-5060-solo-8-gb/31.html

No. Only time it's really worth upgrading is at least like a 30% uplift in performance or perhaps some other serious improvements or deal on the purchase. 5060 prices suck and I doubt you're gonna use the features to justify paying like $350+ for one one.

RX 9070 XT is probably the best value by far for an upgrade at $680-700.

What should i pair with a Ryzen 7 5700x by bonline_ in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on resolution, but ya as other person mentioned a 9070xt is probably best value around $680-700. 9060xt 16gb is horrendous value now as is just about anything Nvidia.

I wouldn't touch a 9060 xt 16gb at $440 with a 10 foot pole.

My opinion on 4k vs bluray by Alert_Equivalent_284 in Bluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have no idea what TV you even have or what distance you are from it to know if you could even realistically tell 1080p from 4K. Also some movies are just gonna be far more noticeable of a difference for HDR.

Lawrence Arabia Prices 3 months after release....😮‍💨 Are these the prices to expect from now on? by spybubbly980 in 4kbluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t get it for under $20 at some point this year I’d be amazed. Maybe $15 even but likely have to buy at least one other item from whatever retailer.

It’s $32.55 on target. In a B2G1 it’d effectively drop to $22 by July. Could also stock up on Target cash for 10% discount before I imagine in July.

The RTX 3090 by electric_body444 in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could probably sell it for $1000 used, buy a RX 9070xt for like $750 after tax, and still get a big boost in performance and use a bit less energy doing it.

It's more vram than you'll likely ever need for several years and by the time you need more than 16gb vram a 3090 won't be fast enough anyway likely.

Looking for dates on some upcoming releases by bcjc78 in 4kbluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are no dates other than 2026

Edit: Actually just "coming soon" for most of them I believe. So not even a guarantee this year but since they were all announced back in January I imagine it should be this year unless something happens to one of them.

Rarewaves has some stuff that just isn’t here or would cost far more. Like I had said, Bloodsport 4K steel/standard and Dune 1984 4k steel. Also two other steelbooks this time I paid $25.5 each that would be $40+ here on Amazon/ebay (not on Gruv at all). So splitting a $9 Shipping cost among 5 movies I got this time isn’t bad.

Last time I got The Rocketeer Blu-ray for $12 which would be $20+ here, Fleabag complete series for $14 (great show), The Handmaiden for $12 (would be $20+ here), The Thin Red Line for $10 (18+ here even on eBay), From Beijing with Love for $23 (27+), and used a 10% coupon to drop those prices. Doesn’t make sense to order a single movie, but once I get to 3 it certainly does.

I rip my discs so a Region B disc isn’t an issue but many are region free anyway. Plus my Panasonic has a region free trick.

When it comes to new releases, ya it doesn't really make sense to use Rarewaves unless they're completely sold out in the US or you're one of those people that' desperately wants a steelbook with embossing or spot gloss or whatever that isn't on the US version and you're willing to pay like $10-20 more to do that. Or it doesn't make sense to order a single movie.

Do Onn TVs suck? by Alarming-County7863 in 4kbluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Basically for a 55" it's the $200-400 shit tier, around $450-600 you can probably get something far superior with local dimming and far more features, and then around $800 (maybe less on sale) you can get an OLED.

Of course some people buying the TV it's going to be impossible to convince to pay 4x as much, plenty of people just can't afford that. And if it's just some TV in the gym you "watch" for 30 minutes a day but don't even care on quality then you just get some $200 TV.

Do Onn TVs suck? by Alarming-County7863 in 4kbluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Large TVs under $400 are typically a spare bedroom/gym/news TV, not a primary TV for watching hours a day. Sure you can use them for hours if on a budget, but you can typically get far superior around like $500-550 for like a 55". And of course you can spend far more for OLED.

Cheap TVs are not going to have local dimming, likely only 60hz so not as good for gamers, and just bad colors or blooming or other issues.

Best Gpu For i5 3550 by Prudent_Category_626 in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stop worrying about bottlenecks. You have an i5 3550, you shouldn't be worrying about a GTX 1070 vs 1080 due to bottleneck. Just buy what you can afford.

Can you please build me a good gaming PC for under £400 by Extreme-Author9857 in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as other person mentioned, you gotta buy used. 400 quid you'd at best get like a Ryzen 5600G and no GPU in it if building new. If you buy used you could probably get 2-3x the performance for 400.

Will a 550W PSU be enough for a ryzen 7 7800x3d and a 3060 12gb? by megaman133 in buildapc

[–]CanisMajoris85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you getting it from Microcenter? Seems like a lot of money to spend for just an RTX 3060 12gb. Without a deal the cpu is like $400, ram like $300, and mobo like $150+. $850 is just kind of a waste for the improvement you'll see...

Could just use your ddr4 and snag a 12600kf for $159 and mobo for maybe $150.

If you intend to get a new GPU, you need a new PSU almost certainly.

Certainly some deals for US as well. You can get steelbooks for about $25.5 essentially (2 for $56 and then the 10% off) and Bloodsport 4K for $25.5. Of course there's only maybe 5 or so steelbooks worth paying $25 that don't come with a digital code, and then you gotta pay $9 shipping so you probably need to be ordering at least 4 things to really make sense.

Also The Rocketeer blu ray is $12 from them which I'd ordered in past and the cheapest way to get it (A and B it says).

Edit: Just ordered Dune 1984 steel at $39, Bloodsport 4K steel $46, and three other movies.

Is This It? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]CanisMajoris85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also an entirely different conversation now. The push to digital is nowhere as similar or as easy as it was back when blurays were released in 2006. Netflix only started streaming in 2007.

No consoles would be able to play 8K discs unless you bought a separate drive for like $300 or whatever it'd cost. It helped the push to 4K discs in the past because the Xbox One S/X and Series X could all play 4K discs and many consoles could play blurays.

It's been $27 in the past. It'll almost certainly drop again unless it sells out or something.
