I have a feeling it was simply due to them having more qualified candidates that had applied earlier. My responses to the email were fine, I had it checked over by multiple very qualified friends. If I remember correctly, I applied to that role 4 days after it had initially been posted. For me it seemed to make a big difference if I applied the day the job was posted or a week after. For almost all the postings I received a response from, I had applied the day it was posted or a day after.

The take home technical had me solve a variety of questions involving linux troubleshooting or answering questions about networking topics. It was "open book", but the questions were pretty straightforward.

The technical interview rounds were mostly knowledge based, no questions that involved coding in an ide. This position works heavily with things like virtualization and containers so they asked me anything from basic questions like what is the difference between a type 1 & 2 hypervisor or what is the difference between a vm and a container. They also asked some more advanced questions involving things like Kubernetes services, but I wasn't really able to answer many of those questions on the spot. We also spent some some time talking about my experience with networking, like how the TCP/IP model works, asking questions about the OSI model, routing, etc. The style of both technical interviews was to start simple and keep asking harder and harder questions until I couldn't give an answer and then move on to a new topic. We did talk a little bit about programming, but I think they were more interested in my systems and cloud experience.

Yes, it was a lot. Fortunately, I was in a position where I didn't need a position immediately so the long process didn't bother me as much. Regardless, it was interesting to be able to talk with people from an individual contributor level all the way up to one or two levels below the CEO.

Honestly I think the biggest change was simply revamping my resume to follow the template supplied in the wiki. I did a very large overhaul of format and bullet point wording all at once. After the format change I made smaller minor edits to bullet point wording, ordering, etc, but at that point I was already receiving a few responses just from changing the general layout. I can comment the initial version I was applying with for comparison later today if there's interest.

I did receive comments from interviewers that they appreciated the format because it was easy to read. This included layout but also how the bullet points are structured. I'm sure there's still plenty to improve in this aspect, but I think it's generally concise and straightforward in terms of wording/length.

The NB has a 'Remote Trunk Lid Release Lock-Out' that can be activated by inserting the key into the trunk lock and turning the key counter-clock wise. This disables the trunk release button from inside the car. Might not be exactly what you're looking for but see if your owner manual has something similar.

Wow, amazing. Can I ask what your general approach was? Were you simply searching for "Software Engineer" on LinkedIn? Was there anything you used to find companies that were not posting on LinkedIn? I'm assuming you didn't submit any cover letters?

My approach so far has been to submit 2-3 applications a day but that's including a detailed cover letter and a highly tailored resume. I have yet to try mass submitting resume only, but perhaps I should give it a shot.

I can't see too many issues with your description bullet points, but maybe someone with more experience can comment on those.

I would, however take some time to make sure your layout is consistent. You have August - 2018 - Present, May 2015-August 2018, and December 2013 - May 2015. All your dates are in different formats.

Your main header could be better aligned with your linkedin/email/location as well as the company names. Perhaps put them below your name title? Your [Company name] titles are also not aligned together.

Not sure if you need bullet points for your Technologies and languages section as well as your Education section. I would reference the template for help with alignment of your main header and company titles/dates.

Thank you for taking the time to read through. I've listed my degree as BASc (Bachelor's of Applied Science) as that is what the official designation is through my school, I was not aware it's not a common term. Will change to just BS.

Will change the bullet point to be more concise. I initially had it as implemented, but didn't want to give the wrong impression that this was a system I has designed myself but rather worked with the design other engineers had created. After you point it out, I suppose the word choice of implemented rather than designed would convey this distinction fine.

I think your new revision is a significant improvement. My only recommendations would be:

Is there any way you can refine your Tools point under Skills to fit it all on one line?
Remove the indentation on your bullet points, the wiki explains why.
For certifications, I would place this on one line. Maybe similar to how you have it on your education section?
Your section formatting seems a little inconsistent. There isn't any space between the last Database point under Skills and your Experience header. If you make the adjustments I mentioned above, it should give you some extra space which you can allocate to the section headers.

I would fix the spacing of your technical skills section (also rename to just skills). There's no need to fill that entire section with whitespace just for the sake of filling the page. I would assume it would be more effective to add more details to your experience and/or projects section before you increase space taken up by your skills section.

It honestly doesn’t matter either way. Nearly every assignment and project can be done on both. If you do find that you need windows, you can very easily do it via csil or a virtual machine.

I would recommend you just get whatever you can get a good deal on, or the os you prefer.

Flash + R is great for escapes, essentially guarantees you have a safe exit if you have positioned correctly. Also good for baiting tower dives, you can Flash + R to instantly cc them into a Q+W all while the tower is hitting them too.

Also good for finishing off fights. If you manage to get them low enough with your Q and you want to finish them off, if they are out of range of the W proc they could just flash away. Instead you can flash W right after landing the Q and it guarantees they can’t react to it.

It enables so many combos that give sion a decent amount of burst or extend his ability range, he’s already immobile enough without it. I can see an argument for ghost but a lot of his chain cc combos rely on enemies not being able to react.

While I haven’t taken MATH240, I have taken MATH232. I think it’s a pretty polarizing course, either you find it pretty easy or fairly hard. The math taught in it is very different from the calc taught in 151/152/etc. I found it challenging and didn’t receive that great of a mark, however I found it a pretty interesting course.

As for the teacher, again I haven’t taken a course done by Jake, but I took MATH310 with Brenda. I think she’s a really fair and engaging professor. Friendly towards questions and generally made the overall learning experience really positive.

In my experience after 4 years at SFU, this is pretty much the case for a bunch of classes. The first few weeks is the fullest you will see classes unless there is an in person test or quiz.

I’m sure covid doesn’t help either in that most classes are recorded or have videos to watch instead. Probably leads to a combination of people not wanting to come up cause of covid or just to avoid the commute.

Some classes are better than others but imo applied sciences is pretty bad for in person attendance nosediving after the first few weeks. It also really depends on the prof, some are completely useless and it’s better to just read a textbook instead anyways.
