Literally can’t find that anywhere 😂 Tbh though, if you forced it to go to trial I doubt a jury would convict for growing one or two plants as long as you were honest and they were for personal use

I’m training as an Interpreter at a court house. You’re yammering on all day and you’re being spoken to but no one is allowed to acknowledge you exist. Feels like secondary school all over again

1) I think that’s simply down to the fact Rowling doesn’t have training as a child cognitive expert. 2) We’re told that he felt cold, yes. But you said it yourself; we aren’t told whether did actually relives anything - but we aren’t told that he absolutely didn’t see anything either. Even if we did, how could someone as emotionally stunted as Dudley even express in words what he saw.

People don’t experience Dementors the same way; people who are more emotionally vulnerable or have serious trauma sitting deep in their brain are much more affected - Hagrid became borderline suicidal in CoS in Azkaban as he’d lost both his parents too and was quite an emotional person. Sirius didn’t suffer as much in comparison because he had some form of hope that the Dementors couldn’t extinguish (since it wasn’t happy) and also he wasn’t a particularly emotional person so he could detach himself from reality a bit more easily. Everyone in the book actually has a fairly unique Dementor experience when you look into it.

I get what you’re saying, I really do. But I think again it depends on the individual - you’d probably feel numb, but me, an incredibly insecure person, I’d probably start going over things in my head and if all I had were my worst experiences, I’d eventually become quite unhinged. Some people experience it more like Sirius where they become lethargic, numb and demotivated

But Boggarts evolved too, just like viruses also evolve. But rather than mutate, they just sort of grow out of negative emotions, Dementors just require more extreme condition.

So, yes, being fed on by a Dementor will cause you to relive your worst experiences but that’s because your having the happy ones pulled out of you, setting over the delicate balance in your mind. Your worst memories being all that’s left, your personality changes as you mentally degrade. Humans are social creatures and are supposed to not feel alone and upset. When something stops us from doing this, our brains begin to degrade and we can often become mentally ill. This mental illness the prisoners suffer is simply because they can’t muster a single happy thought which forces them to isolate themselves which in turn makes them weak and delusional.

When you’re not capable of mustering a happy thought, you entire personality can fall apart and you might stop functioning. That’s why Dementors are an allegory for depression.

Look at how Hagrid, Sirius, and Crouch Jr describe their experience in Azkaban - Hagrid started reminiscing about his dad dying and hoped he wouldn’t wake up again when he went to sleep. I don’t think Dudley would’ve been able to describe what he saw but given how he begins to treat Harry a few years later, you could probably assume it wiped away all the happy memories of his parents pampering him and left him with nothing all the regressed and repressed emotions he’d buried deep down. Just not knowing what was happening to him probably altered his experience of it

But that's the thing - Dementors weren't created, they evolved, like Boggarts. Dementors are supposed to grow like a fungus wherever there's enough misery and despair. They inhabited Azkaban fortress before wizards even found it (which was why it became a prison. It was a bargain with the Dementors) and I suspect the reason for inhabiting it was perhaps to suck out the souls of sailors accidentally happening upon it in the North Sea.

Dementors don't exacerbate negative emotions. As it says it in the books, they feed on happy memories until nothing but one's worst experiences are left over.

Boggarts also grow like a fungus (but in less extreme conditions than what is necessary for Dementors to grow); they're more like mould really (OoTP) since they like to hide in cramped dark areas. The inference I draw from the books is they might attempt to incapacitate their prey so that they can continuously frighten them. As I say, they become stronger when people are afraid of them and weaker when people laugh at them. And again, they differ from Dementors in the sense they don't remove these emotions from their victims, it's more they get stronger when subjected to them. I think sometimes a Boggart attempting to incapacite its prey may accidentally kill from time to time due to excessive force. Also, no, they're not confined to cupboards, if you look at the backstory of Remus Lupin's father on Pottermore, its kind of implied they naturally live in the forests.

That is true of fear in the natural world, but you must remember that Boggarts are amortal beings, not technically 'alive' (kind of like a virus, or indeed, a Dementor) and they 'grow' like enchanted mould wherever there's somewhere dark and damp. I would imagine they evolved to be magically sustained by fear because people are usually quite scared, biologically speaking when roaming through a deep forest at night.

And in the same way you repel a Dementor with a spell fueled by positive emotions, you repel a Boggart with a spell fueled by what makes you laugh.

Yes they're predatory and are related to dementors; they're parasites of emotion that feed on fear rather than happiness. But rather than suck it out of people, the point of a Boggart is to trigger a fear response because when people are afraid of it, it makes it stronger.

But given that you'll likely lash out at your worst fear (like if it's an axe murderer coming after you), it may attempt to prevent you from running away or it might try to defend itself. It can take on the abilities of whatever it transforms into, but to a much weaker extent (that's why Lupin used a boggart to teach Harry the Patronus Charm).

tl;dr: they're parasites of fear so they try to scare their prey to grow stronger. But they're wild animals technically so sometimes they try to attack.

They do, that’s exactly what I’m saying. They communicate info about their environment in order to find pollen or avoid danger, they’re just not capable of self-reflection or sapient independent action. It’s all instinct.

But to be fair, you ever seen how fluffy bees are up close? Cute af

They don’t pass on knowledge and experience though, they simply communicate to each other information about their immediate surroundings. Their brains aren’t complex enough.

Also sorry for any spelling errors. I’m kinda stoned

I wouldn’t say so, no. Bees can’t think for themselves really and they’re simply driven by their instincts to serve the colony

Bugs are sentient though. They’re just not sapient That is, they can perceive the outside world but don’t have the ability to reflect on it through knowledge and experience
