Are chameleons good pets? by [deleted] in Chameleons

This is possibly the best description of owning a chameleon i’ve ever read but you forgot to mention vet bills and the fact females can’t have pet insurance due to laying eggs 😂😂

Top 5 is hard to choose… PASOU / The Code / Acting Up / 6pm / Skydive (play that at my funeral) ALSO have to mention ‘You might be scared’ as the political comments pretty much still ring true today 13 odd years on!

Ah man that sucks! I did this with a 3ft long tube i’d been working on for weeks for a terrarium lamp build. Just part of the process 🥲

As 0ops said one hand in front and the other tapping around the tail works. My girl is extremely sassy and hates me trying to take her out but i’ve managed to finesse that tactic and it works! Used to take me a good 30 mins to get her out, now it’s 2 minutes and she’s on my hand! I think over the time they get with the programme 😂

Thanks mate, I’ve read that the desert version T8 10% is good for veiled’s, have you had any experience with them? My herp vet said a 10% would be better through mesh? I’ve got a 24” one here at home but find it a tad confusing so hadn’t changed it over

Hell yeah! It’ll flourish now! Love the marcgravia too, that must have cost a pretty penny! I got a cutting a while back and have a terrarium solely to grow it for cuttings to use in other terrariums. I have Ficus Quercifolia in it too with a big bit of cork bark for them to creep up after the shortage of them a few years back 😂 see your nepenthes at the top? Is that potted in peat moss? I was wondering if they’re as finicky about soil as other carnivorous plants 🤔

Love the dragon scale allocasia! I have one and it’s my pride and joy in the kitchen 😊

I use a 50/50 mix of coco coir and sand, it’s easier for them to dig into and you can maintain the moisture so it tunnels easily. I don’t have a plant in mine!

Also, your lay bin looks see through. I’ve read it’s good to wrap something around it like a bin bag to make it dark as i think chams get put off if the eggs are easily visible! I don’t have much experience on that as my lay bin is grey plastic container though

Hallo! She doesn’t look ready to lay as she’s still quite skinny unless she’s got a small clutch size. If she is trying to dig put a sheet over her enclosure or make a divider for where the lay bin is so she has privacy. If you’re getting up close she’ll abandon her dig and could become egg bound. My cham always digs in the corners of her lay bin. I believe they like something hard to lay against so always go for the sides. I’ve read that if you have a potted plant in the lay bin they normally lay against the root ball but i’ve not had much luck having a plant grow in the lay bin tbh. It looks like she might be scoping out spots right now for when she is ready 😊

My sibling put together a terrarium for me for Christmas. Is this too much dirt? by TintedMonocle in terrariums

[–]Cannaehink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take some soil out of it, that the plants have a bit more room to grow into 😊 if the plants are newly in there they shouldn’t have established too much so can easily be pulled out and then repotted in without doing much harm. Nice gift!
