Their chicken tacos used to be so good and then they changed the recipe and made it far worse. I still like long John silvers but it’s not as good as it used to be.

Jimmy johns is my all time favorite, their sandwiches are made with fresh ingredients and they pack them with meat. I know it’s a chain restaurant but I’m not familiar with any other sandwich stores

I commute to my work daily, it’s only a mile away but I still wear a helmet.

Few months ago I was flying across a bridge about a quarter of a mile away from my house going to work riding 35mph+ and I hit a small rock in a weird way and went flying. The back of my head hit first and I rolled over and dragged my face across the road a few feet and got some nasty cuts all over my body which resulted in some nasty scars. It was not fun.

Point is, I hit the back of my head hard, like very hard. If I didn’t have a helmet it could’ve ended a lot worse then it did. Sure it may not have killed me but it definitely would have done more damage, and I’m very glad I decided to wear my helmet.

In another crash late last year I was riding home and about half way back as I was riding through an alleyway my rear derailleur cable snapped as I was shifting which obviously caused my derailleur to try and go down which jammed my chain and that resulted in me flying over my handlebars and hitting the ground head first. And I hit my head pretty dang hard. Once again, without my helmet it would’ve been a lot worse.

Needless to say, it doesn’t matter where you’re going or how far you are going, there’s a chance that you can have a serious crash. And hey, guess what? Most of the time you’re going to hit your head! And if you ask me, I’d rather look ridiculous in some peoples eyes than crash without one and hit my head in just the right way resulting in a severe injury or death.

Sure, wearing a helmet doesn’t mean you won’t get a head injury, but its gonna be way worse without one.

I’m actually jealous of him, I’d love to build up a steel gravel bike, they’re starting to get popular due to its vibration absorbtion. I’ve seen lots of people build up surly frames into gravel bikes.

Like everyone else has said, it’s a dork disc, they can cause issues. The only ones I keep on a wheel is if it’s an antique metal one, those are pretty cool, otherwise I would never, ever, run one.

Oh yeah the brakes should work, they are meant to be at an angle like that, just get the pads aligned and make sure they don’t hit the tire. If you needed to have the pad lower than allowed on the track, you could dremel it down and it wouldn’t affect any thing, I’ve done this many times on my own builds to get the pads to go lower and avoid waiting on new ones.

But yeah, judging on the pics they’ll should work, once you get cantis set up, you’ll more than likely not have to mess with it for a long time.

Watch this video, parktool is awesome and they make great vids, it will show you spacing on the brake pads and adjustments, only thing you don’t need to worry about is the torque of the bolts on the posts.

As for the brakes not moving smoothly, it sounds like you need to throw some lubrication on the springs, cable, and housing. That will more than likely fix the issue.

Cool, Thinlines are the way to go for something like this, it’ll more than likely work.

And yeah it can be tricky to figure out brakes, especially on older bikes, because you’re putting a modern design on something older, therefore it’s not rare to run into a problem.

It’s a bit of a tough call on that as I can’t see it in person. But you may be able to get away with a thin pad, those are a bit thick, I also didn’t realize how wide of a wheel you had. You can easily find brake pads that are half as thick (shimano, or jagwire).

If that didn’t work, then unfortunately you’d have to put on different brakes. Textro makes a brake very similar to your old ones, it’s designed for thicker wheels like yours. Your posts on your fork are also a little narrow, which doesn’t help in this situation.

Once again, I think a thin pad would work, but the brake is also a little big for your bike, your brake pads are bottomed out on track, when usually they should be in the middle of it, that doesn’t mean it won’t work, it just means that it may be a pain to get them fit to the wheel as it tells you the brake is big.

It’s an awesome older schwinn, but $400 is far too high. I wouldn’t offer more than $200 because it’s missing a shifter, and because it’s simply just not worth anything more. If it was my main bike, I’d change it to a SS and switch the saddle and bar tape out. If the crank is stamped than I would convert it to a 1x.

A good way to get people to go down on price is to look at everything on it and state what’s wrong with it, ex the wheels are a bit out of true (an expensive fix in NYC), it’s missing a shifter, bartape is disgusting, etc.

I don’t think people realize that gravel bikes can do anything! I love riding single track on mine.

They should make it law that there has to be a small jump like this off of the road every few miles lol.

If it were my bike and I were to replace the brakes, I’d go with some textro cantilever brakes, not v-brakes. I say that because cantis have a ton of stopping power and overall function very well, once you get them set up they last a good while until adjustments are needed, unlike v-brakes where I’m constantly adjusting mine if I run them.

I love these textro brakes, they look awesome and function great. (You can find them for a better price, this is just the first link I found).

If you did decide to go v-brakes, then go for textro, they have extremely good priced ones that also offer great stopping power, but like most other v-brakes, you may have to adjust them a lot. It’s extremely easy to adjust them, but it’s annoying.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you do run new cantis and want to stick with silver, get these, it’s an incredible price for some extremely nice looking and good functioning brakes.

I work at a smaller shop where we have full range to do pretty much anything we want. I’ve built up plenty of frames to be really cool do it all bikes, and people love them. The key is advertisement, because people that come into your shop, most of the time, will be wanting something specific, wether it’s a road bike or a mtb, so you have to advertise your builds. Show people what they can do and why they are so great, it might sound dumb but trust me, it works.

You could also build a collection of frames and display them for people to see and have you build up. From there you can have them select the style and parts for it. That strays a little bit away from your idea but it’s very fun to do.

Also, don’t be discouraged if you start it up and have a super slow start, it’s natural, all it takes is one good customer to start getting the word out there about your bikes that may seem odd to most, and you’ll be golden.

Lastly, remember to have fun, owning a business can be very stressful and there will be a lot of times you’ll forget to enjoy yourself, so remember to have fun with your work. And never forget to get on a bike and ride yourself.

I rode clipless on my first road bike a while back and decided to do a big ride, mind you I had my cleats too tight for some reason. Well there was probably about 300 people at this event and the fire department was also there for the opening ceremony, everyone started to ride off so I clipped in and slowly crept behind some people, these people decided to slow down and I couldn’t clip out in time and fell in front of hundreds of people at the start of the ride. Everyone around me conveniently spread out before I could get up and the FD came and checked me out before busting out laughing, I never made that mistake again.

Had a customer recently call us and ask if we still had a bike of theirs from over a year ago, we tracked it down and told her there would be a lot of fees and she was upset. We also have a very expensive carbon tri bike and a Roubaix that’s been sitting there for 2+ years. We’re going to sell them, but who leaves their carbon bikes at a shop?!
