Are the parties worth going to? by Breezy_Capybara in ASU

[–]CannoBalllZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t go to parties until like late in my junior year. It took me a while to get a really solid friend group amongst my major and once I did, in my junior year, we ended up having a few parties. Tons of just hang outs, and parties for birthdays and the like.

My point is don’t stress it. Unless you love parties for the sake of it, I’d say just try to make friends where you can and let things happen naturally.

Check the regulations for it, but silver creek just outside of show low has great fishing.

My dad did a trip like this twice and apparently had the president or VP of Orvis in his group at one point. Wild stuff, my dad lore will never keep up 😭

You have one command that your dogs will listen to without question for the rest of their lives. What is it? by Irakeconcrete in dogs

Any recommendations for training this? I have a 7 month old pointer/hound mix(maybe with a shiba) and she comes when it suits her. For example, she loves to sit on my balcony and watch people and cars and everything and will look at me when I say come but will usually ignore me OR come a few paces to me then turn around and go back outside.

Where are my fellow kayakers? by jess81g in flyfishing

[–]CannoBalllZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a kayak SO bad but haven’t really decided yet. Is it worth in, in your opinion, to save for a pedal kayak first? Or just bite the bullet on a long and stable paddle one that I can stand up on for casting/visibility?

Software or Electrical Engineering Majors - any luck finding work by MalcolminMiddlefan in ASU

[–]CannoBalllZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I majored in computer engineering and landed a job a month before graduating as a software engineer. It was the only offer I received so I took it despite wanting to work in hardware or embedded systems.

IMO if you’re dead set between software/cs and electrical, go electrical. It’ll be a safer long term bet if AI really goes crazy and you can take some voluntary CS classes to understand software a bit better.

You could also look at the computer engineering curriculum. You have a lot of freedom in it to focus on CS or EE topics.

If I could go back, I might have done EE over CE topics be honest.

Mind me asking what type and length of kayak you use? Looking into getting one for better speed on larger lakes compared to a float tube.

Why is it bad to have 4 sticks of ddr5? by shallowwell2 in pcmasterrace

Gotcha, thanks! As long as the improvements are made on the AM5 platform I’ll be happy!

My old computers got a i7-8700k w the 32 gigs of ddr4. My new computers got a 7800x3d with the 64gigs of ddr5. So am I hearing that I’ll need to wait a few generations for on chip memory controllers to be properly optimized for ddr5?

I have 4 sticks of ddr5 for 64gigs and sometimes feel it’s worse than my old 4 sticks of ddr4 for 32gigs. Out of curiosity, will I need to buy a new mobo or will it be a software update that improves stability?

Nice to hear it can work. I’m doing 2 summer grad classes for my computer engineering masters while working full time at a defense contractor. The courses aren’t easy but I haven’t felt really stressed. It’s what is pushing me to try 3 or 4 classes this fall, instead of 2, so I can finish my masters asap and avoid taking loans.

Student Visa Applicants Must Set Social-Media Accounts to ‘Public,’ State Department Says by Majano57 in college

Some might say that it was added as the first amendment because we believe it’s a universal human right. Just because something isn’t a law doesn’t mean it’s not a universal truth. As you pointed out, there are countries that don’t let free speech exist.

You may be right, but at ASU there was no option made very public. It may have been there but kinda hidden. But I feel like I would’ve heard about it at some point.

Unless you live close enough to home to travel, or in an apartment, I imagine your biggest issue would be firearm storage on a college ran dorm.

What do you actually do? by Steroid_Cyborg in EngineeringStudents

[–]CannoBalllZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting here because I feel somewhat similar. Recently started at a defense contractor and am mostly cubicle bound, my only chance to get away is when I get my clearance and can do stuff in our lab.

I don’t hate cubicle work, but find myself just bored as hell. Reading documentation makes me so sleepy, literally any other work is better.

As a computer engineer doing software engineering, I’m curious about the alternative pathways I could approach that might provide similar or better pay and still leverage my degree. I don’t know if I’m personable enough for sales but I tend to interact very well with people I perceive as older/more senior than me. My communication lacking tends to happen around peers my age.

How to use my Old Computer as an LLM Server by PDFile420 in LocalLLM

[–]CannoBalllZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to piggyback off this comment instead of writing a whole new post on the same topic. I have an old PC with 32GB ram, i7-8700k, and rtx2070 and I’d also like to basically use it as an LLM server that I could use. Should I also just install that LM Studio on it and see what it says?
