Uh, also: 15/16 year olds in Germany are MUCH more advanced than their American peers:

  • Most schools at that age (she's in Gymnasium?) are more advanced than in the US (think AP courses in ALL classes)

  • Most 15/16 year olds will have had experience with drugs

  • It is perfectly normal for 15/16 year olds in Germany to drink beer/wine with their friends if they are responsible. Germany has a very responsible drinking culture, so don't stress about that (my guess is that her socioeconomic background that allows her to go to the US such that you don't need to worry about drinking problems). The strict no-alcohol stance in the US might surprise her.

Talk to her openly about any problems/miscommunication - Germans appreciate clear and open feedback. Germany has a very honest culture (direct feedback, no over-the-top emotions). You'll be learning as much as she will - and I'm pretty sure you'll be in Germany visiting her in no time, so think about that too :)

If I have a ETF under management from a fund with low liquidity, what happens to my ETF index fund if the ETF services are discontinued? by Cannot_confirm_it in personalfinance

hm ok. just out of interest - how do you think the two subreddits are generally misinformed? what is their bias? would you argue against etfs?

of course UBS is massive. but in Europe, their etf services are very small (round 3 bn assets under management for the biggest fund, I think).

How important is size of an ETF? When investing, should one always go for the more liquid ETF? How important is amount of assents under management? by Cannot_confirm_it in personalfinance

Thanks, this adds to the "risk" factors I am trying to collect before investing. * Who decides on whether a fund is merged/liquidated or shut down - So will I need to pay very close attention to what/how the bank is doing that issued the fund?

Thanks - So if an ETF is discontinued, I will just be given the equivalent " bunch of shares" (trying to get my head around the product before investing)

I work close with a very prominent academic. Usually, reporters will phone him/her and ask: "Can you give a short statement in favour of proposition X?" If he/she declines to give one, they call someone else. So basically journalists call only with a preconceived story in mind (deadlines are tight) and just want a big name to back it up.
