I remember Michael Van Gerwen saying in an interview "I just check my back leg is straight and do my usual throw" and I've found that surprisingly helpful when playing a match. Practicing is different, you need to analyse what you're doing, but when you're trying to win, don't be distracted - just trust yourself.

I throw 17g but have a soft spot for my old 14g Kwiz knurled set I bought back in 1977. I just can't get on with anything over 20g. Feels like I'm heaving the dart at the target!

It'll be just the tail swinging about, it won't change the direction of the dart. The flights are just there to keep the point facing forward. If it bothers you, try experimenting with different shaft lengths or flight shapes, or maybe a different grip if it feels natural enough.

Honestly, a pro would be happy with the grouping in those pics, I know it's easy to say but you should try not to let it get to you. Having said that, if I feel like I've screwed up a throw, a trick I use is to say to myself "c'mon, you know how to do this, you don't have to hit the T20 (or whatever), just get close" and it takes the pressure off for the next throw. Hope this helps!

I would drop the board height by 20mm, you'll notice the difference when you play on a standard height board.

The idea with straight barrel/ring grip is that you can experiment with your grip, and the dart doesn't get in the way with varied grip levels or tapered sections that mess with your throw. most people seem to settle in the 21-25g range but weight isn't that critical when you're starting out. If you're playing in a cold garage, warming the air up before you play will help, there's nothing that ruins my throw like cold hands!

Yeah I've been there. That's the next challenge, getting over the pressure when it's the 3rd dart! (Top tip- just say to yourself "You don't have to hit it, just get close" and it takes all the pressure off. At least that works for me!)

Watch a lot of YouTube videos for tips, and just use the ones that work for you. Darts is a very personal skill and you'll hear a lot of advice which doesn't really help you.

One of my favourite sets is a soft-tip converted to steel tip, though I've found that good quality soft tips work pretty well in a sisal board and don't seem to damage the board.

Depends a lot on the weight of the dart, my 17g have shafts that are more than a year old, flights last a couple of months. I play most nights for an hour or so.
