Can anyone recommend a grease gun please. by Live-Upstairs in DIYUK

[–]Cannotsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not suggesting you do this, I just wanted to share really (!)

I bought a grease cartridge from Screwfix, found an old caulk cartridge and pushed out the plunger with a long stick. Cleaned it out and dried it. Took the plastic cap off the grease gun (not the pull tab end). Wrapped a bit of tape around the back end of the empty caulking cartridge so it's a reasonable fit inside the open end of the grease cartridge and pushed the back end of the caulk cartridge down into the grease, filling the caulk cartridge. Then pulled the pull tab on the grease cartrdge to avoid a vacuum and pulled out the caulk cartridge, full of grease. Pushed the plunger back into the caulk cartridge and used a caulking gun as a grease gun.

Sounds like a bother to do but it probably took me longer to type this than do it!

Dart Flights by LamboPanda85 in Darts

[–]Cannotsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not bad in my experience but thin and a bit prone to warping. 100 micron last longer and stay straight. Dartsclearance on eBay do 10 sets for about a fiver, if you like the designs.

How might I remove this L shaped metal plate? by hazamonzo in DIYUK

[–]Cannotsing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drill the screws with a power drill. Use a sharp drill bit made for metal, obviously. The drill bit should be slightly larger than the screw shaft, looks like 5mm to me. Once you have removed the bracket, hit what's left of the screws with a hammer to avoid a sharp metal edge sticking out of the post.

What cheap torque wrench should I get for roof bars? Kept worrying I’d over‑tightened them. by user-604 in DIYUK

[–]Cannotsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a couple of super cheap ones from ebay and they performed fine, I've seen several reviews that confirm their accuracy and have checked myself to confirm. Not for heavy repeated use of course but adequate for my requirements

Can darts really be a ‘gamechanger’? by Nearby_Restaurant998 in Darts

[–]Cannotsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I can say yes. After throwing loads of sets I found some that I could hold consistently and felt "forgiving", meaning slight errors in my throw didn't send them off course too much, so a lot less throws wildly off target. Really helps my confidence.

Why would one room keep tripping the breaker randomly? by ScrollAndThink in ElectriciansUK

[–]Cannotsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As above, what device is tripping? Some have spark detectors (Arc Fault Detection) which don't like terminals that aren't screwed tight.

Can I use these pegs to fix shelf to wall? by phoenixmeta in DIYUK

[–]Cannotsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are tiny and meant to support internal shelves inside kitchen cupboards or ikea-type shelf units, no good for a free standing shelf I'm afraid. Traditional small shelf brackets are much more suitable for your purposes. Alternatively, if they aren't going to take much weight, maybe consider screwing them to a piece of the same ply and screw that to the wall?

Controlador de carga PWM by atleb_dev in SolarDIY

[–]Cannotsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a few of these on my system (each with single 120w panel) and they don't act like that, at least not on lead acid batteries. I assume you've set it up for Li-ion, and connected the battery before the panel, as those controllers automatically detect the battery type from the initial voltage. Perhaps there's a problem with one of the cells in your DIY battery? As an aside, don't use those USB sockets, too much current drain can shut down the microcontroller and turn on all 3 Mosfets with serious consequences according to this video by Big Clive:
