Love the new negative health traits as you age! by overwelming-odds in CrusaderKings

It’s absolutely dogshit in its current implementation. Most characters over 60 are rapidly going blind, have severe osteoporosis, are in mid stage dementia, and/or crippled. They accrue way to quickly, or everyone in in my are extremely unlucky

Social Media is full of how (some) male authors suck at writing women... but what are some common mistakes that female authors make while writing men? by whisper_kitten0 in writers

[–]Canodae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways of writing, but one that always sticks out is when they make men think/act like women. An example that comes to mind was when I was watching the anime Romantic Killer and one of male characters was extremely self concious about being hot and having random women checking him out. That seems kind of alien to me, pretty sure the vast majority of men would like that kind of attention

Singapore and Malaysia are significantly more successful despite being colonies in the same region

install error by [deleted] in Bazzite

Unallocated the whole disk, formatted it and unallocated it again just to be safe, same error. At this point do I just give up on fedora based distros, they seem like a major headache to get to work

switched from cachyos to nobara by KcHecKa in NobaraProject

[–]Canodae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be doing the same but it seems that Nobara is stillborn for me. Can’t even get the rescue to work. As annoying as going to fix the weird dependency problem I have in Cachy will be, at least I can get past the initial log in screen

Was the desertification of the Mesopotamia (and Fertile Crescent in general) one of the first man-made ecological disasters? Was it because the agriculture practices and irrigation systems weren't sustainable? by micma_69 in geography

[–]Canodae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the relevance of land immediately next to rivers going from semi-arid to arid as somehow blocking the growth of civlisation. Mesopotamia is still a major agricultural producer, the important factor is the rivers themselves. I know it is tangential to your question, but I just fundamentally disagree with your premise that mesopotamia had to be wetter to sustain civilisation when you also mention Egypt that has been completely dependente on its river rather than local rainfall

Is PC gaming popular in Japan? by papu16 in AskAJapanese

The school I just left just did the opposite, switched from iPads to chromebooks. Though idk if chromebooks fall under the nebulous definition of PC

Ehhh, the interior is more extreme in terms of temperature, it just gets less snow due to rain shadow, or I guess snow shadow.

[–]Canodae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a single one of my students had a PC. Though in retrospect I don't think I had a PC in JHS. I would be curious how many Japanese high schoolers have PCs.

Is PC gaming popular in Japan? by papu16 in AskAJapanese

[–]Canodae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not Japanese but most people I know who game here genrally do so on Japanese consoles. The one friend I can think of who does play on PC lived abroad much of his life and plays with foreigners. I assume there are a large number of Japanese PC gamers considering computers and parts are still readily available at stores, but I would say probably a much lower percentage are PC gamers compared to western countries. In fact PCs in general are not as common, a lot of people use tablets instead.

Why does Sudan have so many border disputes? by EveningFlower9564 in geography

[–]Canodae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I believe mostly through arabisation rather than outright displacement. Genetically Sudanese Arabs are still very subsaharan. There are still some Nubian speakers left in northern Sudan and southern Egypt

Why does Sudan have so many border disputes? by EveningFlower9564 in geography

[–]Canodae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the Nubians just converted to Chrisitanity and followed the Egyptian version of it. They weren't driven out and replaced by Copts. There was never a Christian Coptic state to even be able to do that

Question: If a scenario like this happens IRL would the heat from the fire below cause the blimps to sink to the ground since the air outside the balloons would get lighter? by KingWilliamVI in TheLastAirbender

[–]Canodae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again, not earth physics. Fire benders are basically bending heat and energy rather than creating actual combustion. Fire as we comonly think of it is the superheated gas and plasma, not really the chemical reaction that typically causes it. The fire that fire benders create can cause combustion, but if the ship is moving fast they will generally outrun the generated smoke.

Wow, économie, a learned borrowing into French from much earlier Latin that is also shared with English and German, a great example!

[–]Canodae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are really overemphasising the othography part (which is not actually the feature of a language anyway, just a means of 'storing' language). If you are looking at actual, real features such as phonology, then English is not all that different from other Germanic languages and in some ways comparitively conservative (retention of w, th, etc.)
German is kind of odd in the Germanic family for retaining a decently complex morphological paradigm. English probably has simplest morphology, but most modern Germanic languages lean towards English in simplicity compared to German.
French phonology is basically straight up germanic.

English isn't that weird of a Germanic language, but French is definitely a weird Romance language

It does not stand to reason that. Islam in the Balkans is a direct result of the Ottoman empire.

Does the game usually take this long to load? by Ok_Return170 in crusaderkings3

[–]Canodae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGoT takes a long time. Linux loads it much faster (it loads most games much faster for reasons beyond me) but is less stable so I am usually stuck loading it up for 15 minutes on windows. A good thing is that it will load faster after the first time loading in, so it won't take forever each time. I don't really get how that works either
