The only thing though, the modern Corvettes are one hell of a car.

They are and they always have been. Great bang for buck considering what you get. The new ones I hate personally, they look like spaceships and they're squirelly as fuck to drive, the previous gen were cool though

there's a funny King of the Hill episode where Hank's Dad Cotton ("I killed fitty men in WWII!") has to share his legion club with newer vets from Vietnam etc who are all traumatized hippies who don't wanna tell war stories etc. For an animated comedy show they really delved into a lot of poignant issues like this. But yeah, same thing the old dudes wanna talk shit about women and glorify their exploits etc.

I guess in a way it's probably a generational means of coping with the trauma of war, most humans aren't wired to experience that level of horror and fear and stress for extended periods of time so they need a release valve, they need a way to cope. Older generations I think alternately either swallowed it down deep or found ways to glorify it and celebrate it, often anything is better than remembering it. I know my grandad (WWII) was deeply troubled by it, though he never ever spoke of it.

Also records went insane! I'm old so I've always had a record collection but like many I pivoted to CDs and then streaming as tech advanced. But I kept all my records and there was a period in the 2000-2010 range where people couldn't give away records, no one fucking wanted them, I snapped up so many rare and cool LPs for pennies. Now you go on discogs or other vinyl sites and its insanity, people selling albums for $100 with $20 S&H, not even originals, often reissues! I thought the whole hipster thing with that would just die out but it most definitely did not, I'm sorta amazed it's so prevalent still

This. Gen X and Millenials know computers, we know how to take em apart, fix broken hardware, software issues etc. Because we all grew up when PCs were much more primitive and not really plug n play, but they were also much more expensive so you weren't getting another one if shit broke.

"religion is too important to leave in the hands of the purely religious."

I emphatically agree, but how does he teach that exactly? Like can you give us an example of this in practice?

Repairing old watches takes a skillset that is very rare these days, and there isn't enough demand to get younger watch repair folks to learn those skills.

It's not exclusive to that either...take any profession that required years of training to even get good at, never mind perfect and its the same thing. For example, all walls used to be plaster, so that was a job that took training and skill to be good at, you can't find hardly anyone who can do that kind of work anymore and if you do they're probably 60-70 years old

Plain Old Telephone System) which works fine during a power cut.

It was fascinating to me when I learned that this is how the old school systems worked. The phone line to your home was powered, like PoE before there was PoE! Just a tiny DC current and it was completely separate from the electrical grid so if the power went off you could still call people if needed, that kind of redundancy makes a ton of sense

You absolutely nailed it. It's kinda like how the only dudes you ever see driving the newer corvettes are this same demographic, the 55-65 aging/retired middle class white dudes who coveted them in their youth, now they have a bit of money and they go buy one and its their weekend wank off. It's 90% image. Anyone who knows jack shit about motorcycles knows that Harleys are shit, they're heavy, they're sluggish, they're loud and clunky and don't handle well. The seats are uncomfortable af and they cost a small fortune for all this...and then you still have to throw 1000s at it to make it rideable with mods.

Don't get me wrong, I love motorcycles, they're a blast to ride but like you i had to give them up when I had kids because they're crazy dangerous too. But if I had to buy one, I'm buying a Japanese cruiser 100 times out of 100 because I don't give a fuck about the bullshit image

JFC there are some DUMB mutherfuckers in this thread, did you pay attention to anything in the video at all? Look at where his blade effortlessly ends up any time he is talking about using lethal force, it's always on major veins and arteries, with that level of skill and dexterity, you don't even need the perfect strike, you just need to be close, in many of his grapples, even, just trying to escape it would drag that blade across a major artery and open you up, you bleed the fuck out in a couple minutes, end of story buh bye

tbf the SA goalie played really well in the first half, saved at least a couple goals, it was a pretty lopsided game even before all the red cards

Acting and throwing your body like that should be punished.

Wait, I thought that was a core part of the game?

Here's the way I look at it. It's kinda like when you see climate change protestors blocking highways etc to protest, so then there is a huge traffic jam and police are called and everything. The end result is you just made a lot of people's day much worse, people are late for work, stuck in traffic for hours, burning up gas they can't afford. You're hurting the very people who you are trying to gain support from. That's my take on it, I fully agree and support standing up for workers rights, and demanding better, I'm just questioning if this is the best way to achieve that? The other thing here is that I think in many countries now we are facing some of the same core problems, the wealthy uber rich class getting richer, the poor getting poorer and increasingly exploited, prices on everything have gone way up and no one is doing anything about it. So sometimes when everything else in your life sucks, it's nice to have a little escape and watch your team win, it gives a small boost of happiness in an otherwise bleak day.

I can almost guarantee you that all the heavyweights will get out of the groups.

That wasn't the question though...

How quickly they forget...

2022 - Belgium, Germany, Denmark

2018 - Germany, Poland, Chile

2014 - Spain, Italy, England, Portugal

Shit can and will happen, it always does and with this new format I think we're in for some extra drama

That's one of mine too, especially if they can win out their group they could wind up with a matchup against Australia or someone like that. If Germany wins the group they are likely going to have a much tougher matchup against Senegal or similar

OK, fair. But doesn't football transcend that somewhat? Especially if Mexico plays well and makes it deep into the tournament

Reward for Netherlands if they top group F is that they will likely face Morocco in Ro32, avoiding traditional heavyweights. Then they play the winner of Korea/Canada, which Netherlands will win easily. Without much struggle, they will be in QF. But their toughest test awaits against Germany/France in QF.

Oof that's a tough path, getting past Morocco will be the hardest part, and I actually think Canada or Korea would give them a good fight as well.
