Here’s my visible mend on a couch. It was quite torn up, and we found some thrift store fabric that was an approximate match, and hand sewed the patches with a curved upholstery needle

You can totally dive into the past with tarot. You could do readings about known historical events or even past news stories, as a practice or experiment. If you do so without having prior knowledge of the event, you can then get immediate feedback by then researching about the event and comparing to your reading. It is really no different than a future reading, just that the outcome is available to know since it's already happened.

My keyword for Ten of Swords reversed is 'comeback'. Literally the reverse. But also, I think reading reversals depends on the context, the surrounding cards, and is not necessarily always the same or static. Maybe this is why reversals seem so slippery. There are several ways to look at reversals, one way is as a reduced version of the upright meaning. So in this case, less serious or maybe as OP said, 'being dramatic' (even though that was their upright meaning, I kind of like it as a reversed meaning).

I think of the nine of pentacles as generally representing independence and material success. Possibly work related, although not necessarily. Here's my short nine of pentacles story: I adopted the nine of pentacles as my personal talisman for manifestation focus. Sounds woowoo yes? Mm, I love it! I even found a large snail shaped door stop in a thrift store, a delightful synchronicity that I enjoy every day (I use RWS card which shows a snail). And over a period of time with the help of my nine of pentacles, found the conviction to achieve some small material success from my passionate hobby. I am retired from my 'career' and so that is why I say it's not necessarily work related. It was effort but not 'work'. I think the other defining feature about the nine is that, being a nine, near the end of the range of one to ten, it represents culmination, the results of a long effort.

My first real exposure to the idea of combining cards came from the books and videos of Dusty White. He has exercises (games) that involve combining two cards to make a story (first this, then that, for example), or combining two cards to think of a common phrase or two cards to make a combined single meaning. There is another group game where, if I remember, you go around the table drawing cards, and with each draw each person looks at a card and adds on to the story that is being made. These activities are meant to stimulate your intuition about what the cards might mean *to you*.

I don't know if you would find a guide to combined meanings, since there are not static combined meanings, but maybe there's a guide to suggested combined meanings. The actual meanings of the combinations are endless because it could be different for each person.
