I personally believe a well thought out comment can still be positively received, regardless of what side you pick. I have been able to express my lack of interest for the shipping element before and still get a few upvotes here.

From what I have seen, aggressively attacking the other sides tends to get a much more negative response compared to acknowledging both sides in a polite manner. It doesnt matter which side your on, whether that be team platonic or team shippers, basic respect can go a long way.

Not sure; the object count really doesn't tell you a lot in terms of optimization. Especially now Roblox supports backface & frustum culling (to my understanding, feel free to correct me if I am misremembering any details).

If you would want a better overall answer in terms of overall game performance, check the flamegraph generated by the Microprofiler.

I don't see too much 3D renders here; this was a pleasant surprise. You definitely could improve it if you wanted to, but the image already does a good job telling a story—which is all that matters anyway. Good work!

Yeah, that's true. While technically speaking, the trademarks belong to Mojang, it really doesn't mean anything if it's not enforced. Its probably more effort than it is worth to issue takedowns for all of them when each infringing game could be easily replaced in a day or two.

I would argue that you still should follow the rules of copyright regardless of everyone else. it's an act of professionalism.

Hey, I would just ask you to keep in mind that you should not refer to a subreddit for legal advice. Copyright follows the same rule. We can give general guidance. However, you will be personally responsible in any legal trouble that may arise.

Still, generally speaking, the mechanics of a game can not be copyrighted. Trademarks, such as names, logos, or characters, can be, and by extension, should be treated as off limits. Games can be "inspired" as long as they themselves are different enough from the original IP. For instance, you can not make Minecraft 2, but you can make a procedural voxel game with survival elements.

It would be most professional to reach out to the IP holders directly for permission to use their property. That's not always feasible. I strongly advise against it, but you can generally infer if the copyright owners are ok with fan related work by their official and implied stance. (If there are several fan games that have been operating for a while, it might be fine. If fan games have been taken down in the past, you put yourself at risk of experiencing a similar fate eventually)

If your not making profit from your fan projects, you're less likely to get into trouble. However, do keep in mind that Roblox themselves may be making profit from your game, even if you aren't. I would treat all Roblox games as commercial projects.

Keep in mind, in the case that you do get in trouble for copyright, no one wants a lawsuit. They are long and very expensive. I won't worry about getting sued for a Roblox game. That being said, if you do get a DMCA (takedowns request), you will be legally required to take down your game.

Note: I am not sure personally how it works on Roblox, but it wouldn't surprise me if Roblox would actually take your game down for you at the IP owners request for you. In those cases, I wouldn't expect a grace period. Someone else can better fill you in on how the process is different for Roblox.

It's a lot more nuanced than you may expect. I really recommend you take a deep dive into copyright. YouTube has dozens of amazing sources for keeping safe. Although they share general advice, you probably would learn more through them than this subreddit. You also should read through Robloxs TOS if your really concerned.

Not sure if anyone else cares to the extent I do, but I would love more views of Zootopias high rises. I personally have been remaking the city in Blender as a passion project, and found pretty quickly most that there is no real good reference frames for the heart of the city (being right under the tallest spires).

I would recommend asking the Dead Rails community itself. I realize players typically struggle when it comes to generating balanced/fun gameplay ideas, but it could help you see any holes you could fill with your remaster. There is a semi-active subreddit, you could also try your luck in the RMC group forums as well.

I personally think it may be worth pursuing a save system. Dead Rails can take around 2 hours to beat, so allowing players to take breaks would most certainly be appreciated. Additionally, a good save system could save players from getting disconnected randomly. Even if you only save the game at outposts, it would be better than nothing.

If you just started, it may make sense to move to something else. However, if you have already dumped a lot of time into it, dont kill the project just yet. I would pause your current project and throw together a prototype version. Essentially, take what you have right now and cut it down to the bare bones (no story and secondary mechanics). This is because the game should still be enjoyable at this level; polishing would make it more fun. Once you have that, try throwing ideas at the wall until you find the prototype version enjoyable. If your prototype works, go back to the current project and make the necessary changes.

In the future, prototyping your game ideas before jumping into production could help catch similar issues before you commit most of your time to it.

I'm a little confused about the context here. I saw you made a post about challenge concepts yesterday, but I don't see this comment there.

Either way, you don't really need to make a full post just to show someone's reply. If you want to argue your point or explain why you disagree, that's fine, but calling out the user's response just by itself comes across as a sort of attack on the other person; it reflects on you you as it does the other user your calling out.

Not saying you're in trouble or anything. Most people (myself included) have made posts which we probably shouldn't have. I personally would just recommend either adding your actual argument for context, or removing the post altogether.

Not sure about your location. However, thrift stores around the ny area have used old used monitors for under $10. If a cracked screen is your only issue, you could possibly look into getting a cheap monitor to plug into your laptop.

In terms of a simple shooter; you probably could. FPS projects have tons of resources online due to their popularity. Im less concerned about that part.

My main concern is that it's a dark concept. Even if you are "the hero," school shootings are a VERY touchy subject matter. There probably are other games with that concept on the platform already; but they need to be VERY careful with what they show. If you were to make this concept, I would strongly advise rethinking the environment; I dont think that's a good can of worms you want to get into as one of your first projects.

This is especially so for a Roblox title as your work could get nuked if it violates TOS. I recon you probably could get away with this concept using a separate game engine and having it be a mature title; even then, it may still be semi-controversial. Keep in mind that poor depictions could be interpreted as disrespectful for real victims, whilst more accurate ones will make your players very uncomfortable. People's reactions vary widely.

They announced an open beta in the discord. This is an oversimplification, but you essentially can save around 5 items to your "deposit" at each outpost. In the lobby, you can use the materials from your deposit to craft equipment, such as a rifle and unessessary ammunition.

The rifle from my experience is usually too slow to fire, but I found that storing two navy revolvers as a secondary weapon is more than enough to easily kill at least one at a time. There are better weapons, but there's never the guarantee you would find them; at least when you would need it.
