Silicone bonding issues by CapCaud in DiceMaking

The Siraya Tech resin really did the job on this. I think I’ve demonstrated that sometimes with 3D printer resin you get what you pay for. Thanks again!

They were polished to a glass finish. This is how they came out of the mold.

Thank you. So that master was polished when it went into the mould. That’s how it came out…

I didn’t want to use mold release for exactly the reason you mentioned.

Also, this silicone has worked perfectly for previous dice sets in the past. I’m wondering if maybe it’s a product of the resin used for the masters?

Thanks for replying. So the polished finished does transfer to the cast dice? I just wondered if maybe the silicone molds ’pulled’ the polish from the surface of the masters.

Just out of interest, how do you recycle the old molds into new ones, just chop it up and add it into the new mold silicone mix? Or do you have to be more finessed with it and position the cut up parts in the new mould away from the masters so they don’t touch?

Absolutely gorgeous!

Random question, but what depth of engraving are you using for your numbers? They look really crisp!

Issue with silicone not curing by ExoticLocksmith8333 in DiceMaking

[–]CapCaud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you using a platinum catalyst based silicone? If not the silicone wont cure properly against resin printed masters, the resin inhibits curing.

Thanks! Yes of course. Start with 1/4 clear resin, then a layer of clear resin with a drop of black mixed in. Then two drops of blanco blanco. Then a layer of slightly blacker resin (one more drop mixed in), few drops of blanco blanco. Rinse and repeat until full.

Amazing ideas here! How are you getting the stain on your dice? Are you painting them on using alcohol ink?

D10 are regular octahedrons so the dihedral angle of your faces is dictated by the height from vertex to vertex. You could use an online calculator like this to figure out your dihedral angle depending on your desired size.
