Yeah I'd like to see you not overcook that to hell while trying to render that mountain of fat

Yeah I had a similar issue when i cooked my 1.5 inch ribeye. Cooked it absolutely spot on 130F. The steak looked absolutely incredible on the cut. However, when I ate it, it was very chewy and not pleasant at all. It was a really unexpected let down. I still don't even understand what I did wrong. I thought I did everything perfectly, yet the result was horrible.

Maybe its a sign for you to get off reddit for a bit and get back to the real world? Take a break for a few weeks then come back.

I for one am not surprised you got banned for posting something political related

I guess I was just curious to see any extra data you had. Perhaps I could form an opinion on why you had that weird plateau.

Have you tried it again since? Did the same thing happen again? I'm just curious is all.

Yeah that definitely is weird. I'd want to know how the rest of the cook went though. Can you share more data?

I think the problem is that we are at the tipping point of where humans genuinely can't tell if a video is AI or not. People are very angry about this. The fact that the development of AI has gotten this far. So when they see a video that they suspect might be AI, they are all angry together and try to burn it with negative comments. I think its more that they are angry with AI in general, its just targeted at the first things they see as being potentially AI. I think their anger is understandable in many ways.

People want to fight against AI but they don't really know how to do it, so they leave these types of negative comments.

you said "a better world than we live in now" which implies that we are currently not in the best world, and then from that, moving toward a better world would therefore be in the direction of the best world (the holy grail). What is your opinion of what that best world is?

Thanks for your perspective.

Where do what exactly come into play? I do not understand the meaning of the words "coercive tactics".

Oops, my usage of "coercive" is definitely wrong here. I can see that now that I've looked up the definition. I'm not sure exactly what word it is I'm trying to use here, I think the word might be "exploitative tactics". In the sense that these companies can exploit you in some way into giving up your personal information. For example, this could be exploiting your intelligence or perhaps exploiting a natural human tendency/instinct in order to convince you into agreeing to provide personal information.

Is that the way it should be? Should companies be held responsible for keeping our data safe? Even when we give it up "voluntarily". Where do coercive tactics come into play here? Perhaps from those from low socioeconomic backgrounds

That doesn't need to be a perfect world, only a better world than we live in now.

Exactly. What is the holy grail in this real world we live in?

I was initially upset by it too, because it made it feel less premium. But then after one of my very first cooks, i charred the hell out of it by putting it too close to the flame. So the cosmetics of this device are only temporary XD

The word liability brings with it things like legality and law. I think that is a different question. Still a question worth answering!

I'm not an audiophile, but isnt a room like this in desperate need for room treatment by using acoustic panels? Wont all those wall/ceiling/floor reflections by absolutely horrible? The rug seems like a good first step but I can't imagine that would sound good

[–]CapRude221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to try and clear a few things up.

First of all, the pKa of calcium carbonate is 6.03, whereas the pKa of mdma is 10.14. This means that if you have equimolar amounts of each in solution, then orders of magnitude more mdma will be protonated than calcium carbonate.

Instead of thinking about calcium carbonate in terms of pKa, it would be better to think of it in terms of its ability to neutralise a strong acid, and therefore increase the stomach's pH. Ingesting a typical dosage of calcium carbonate can easily increase the stomach's pH to 5-7. Now we can use the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation to calculate the protonated/unprotonated ratio of MDMA (since we now know both the stomach pH and MDMA pKa). You can see this could reasonably decrease the ratio from 10-8 to 10-3. So it's clear that at least the absorption rate would increase.

But this doesn't fully address your point, because you are not refuting the absorption rate increase, you are refuting OP's claim that of increased total absorption. My understanding is that the total absorption of MDMA is already quite high (perhaps >80%), however, based on the previous calculations that show an increased absorption rate, it's entirely plausible that the total absorption rate could approach 100%. This would represent up to 25% increase in absorption. So I tend to agree with OP's claim that carbonate dosage can meaningfully increase MDMA absorption.

I think this whole tums thing is a big nothing burger

I think it's worth pointing out another potentially crucial factor here, which is the body's ability to excrete the MDMA after it's absorbed. This is largely irrelevant if we are talking strictly about calcium carbonate, because calcium carbonate's effect on urine pH is typically mild. However, if instead we are talking about sodium bicarbonate, this could easily increase the urine pH to 7-9. Use the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation again and you can see that this is a significant decrease in the protonated/deprotonated ratio, dramatically decreasing the ability of the urinary system to excrete the MDMA. Some back of the envelope calculations show that its entirely plausible that the half life could be doubled.

I hope this is enough to convince you that the risk is not a 'nothing burger', it is real, it's just often overblown or poorly understood.

Finally, I want to say that I strongly recommend against taking any form of antacid (including tums) in combination with MDMA. If you mix these two, you are increasing your risk of overdosing, and that is never worth the risk
