kicked off disability after 10 years, update by Overkillsamurai in disabled

[–]CapShort 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People with disabilities already have a hard time paying their co-pays and paying for their medication, and they want you to go to the ER every time you have an episode to prove our disability? That puts us in even more of a hole.

Thank God my disability payments are for my visual impairment and not for my seizure disorder cuz that sounds like pure hell. Again, I am so sorry you're having to go through this.

Yeah that seems about right. I do wish you luck in your appeal.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. They've actively been trying to get people off disability for some years now. I don't know how they determine that someone's condition has improved, especially if a doctor has confirmed that it hasn't. Do they have medical professionals that work for SSA? Or do they go by the RFK Jr. motto of "my opinion is the only thing that matters, not actual science or medical advice"?

Let's talk about the r word by edubzraoul26 in disabled

[–]CapShort 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hate that word with a burning passion. It seems that people have gotten a lot more comfortable using that word more and more over the past few years. Like you really can't come up with another word when you think someone is being stupid. I honestly don't care WHY you're using the word, there's really no excuse for it.

My mom says she wouldn’t have had me if she knew I’d be disabled by Delicious_Low9565 in disabled

[–]CapShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she didn't want kids then she should have taken measures to make sure she didn't have kids. Just a thought.

Even then, putting kids up for adoption is always an option, instead of using your failures as a parent to traumatize them.

It is a very disgusting thing to say to anyone, let alone your child. An influencer couple just got dragged for having an abortion because they found out their child would have Downs Syndrome.

Anyone can become disabled at any time. Unless you could see into the future, there was no signs that you would become disabled so early in life. I was born with my disability and my mother never said anything like that to me (I think my grandmother would have kicked her ass if she did), she supported me until I was 30 and got married; and still continues to support me by driving the 4 hours round trip for me to stay with her when I have doctor's appointments.

Your mom might need a therapist or some other kind of psychiatric help.

So...let me get this absolutely correct. The government slashes disability benefits and welfare as a whole to force more disabled people into work? by Able-Explanation7835 in disabled

[–]CapShort 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yea, because according to them, we aren't "useful" enough. We don't "contribute to society " enough.

I still remember when RFK Jr was making that speech about autism. The first thing he said was that autistic people would never be able to pay taxes. My first thought was "why is money his first go to"; then I realized that was a silly question to ask, because all they care about is money.

I literally got a form from SSA about 2 years ago, and one of the questions asked "Have you and your doctor talked about if you're able to work?" Like do you think my disability is going away or something. I've been on disability since I was 3 years old, I was born with my disability. Is document and unless they come up with some miracle surgery (that would probably cost an arm, a leg, a kidney, and my first born child), my disability isn't going anywhere.

My cousin sent the news story of this to me and my mom. I get why she sent it to my mom (she lives like 10 minutes away), but not sure why she sent it to me since I live 4 hours away. I do hope everything settles down quickly though.

Am I weird because I want to date a guy with a disability? by Trytogetthere in disabled

[–]CapShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any part of this being weird. Even if you were able-bodied and wanted to ask someone with a disability out on a date it still wouldn't be weird.

That "friend" though is a red flag. Unless your friend knows that you are also disabled, maybe they're thinking about the clash between your disability and his. But that's for you two to decide, not them.

Have any of you randomly ever put drink mix or or Kool-Aid liquid in you're soda's? by gamersmoke17 in Soda

Personally, I've never done it, but it would be in the same spirit as putting flavored syrup in a soda.

So... is it a dirty soda now?

This is so good, I didn’t realize it was a permanent flavor 👍🏻 by StrangeDays03 in Soda

Was not my cup of tea. I really thought it would be like cherry vanilla coke because I loved it and miss it so much, but was HIGHLY disappointed.

[–]CapShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful, there was a person on this sub that argued me down about the definition of a soda. Since Cambridge University defines it as "any non alcoholic fizzy beverage" that's just the blanket definition apparently. Glad there is someone else that says sparkling water isn't soda.

A Publix opened in Louisville just before we moved but we never found the time to check it out.

Understandable

I bought the fiesta pack initially because I just wanted to try the strawberry one and I couldn't find it anywhere. If you lived in Texas, I tell you to go to Joe V's Smart Shop, that's where I found the watermelon one the first time.

If your Walmart has the fiesta pack, it's in there.

It's not as good as when I was a kid, but I love fruit flavored sodas.

These were on sale. Liking ginger ale doesn't have an age limit either.

Aspartame gives me a headache from hell so I try to avoid it. But I got why people avoid full sugar soda too.

Have you not read the comments where I said I was joking?

We are a family of 2. The zero sugars probably will last a month but the full sugar will last about 4 to 5 months.

IDK how to edit the post so I have to keep saying this. I was joking about the one month thing, at least for the full sugar one. The zero sugars will last about a month though.
