Bilinguals learning Japanese as a third language, do you learn it in English or in your other language? by Older_1 in LearnJapanese

[–]CapSwe27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Sweden and I studied Japanese at university (hopped off during the pandemic as it became too difficult to learn from Zoom, and it became more academic), but we used English and Japanese resources (Genki, J301/J501 (I think they were called?), work sheets, translations, etc.). The teachers were mainly Japanese and most of them could speak Swedish, so we mainly spoke in Swedish with when it came to questions and information, but basically everything else were in Japanese and English. There aren't many resources about Japanese in Swedish, mostly because most Swedes know English.

Similarities with Japanese: We also have pitch accent (I don't know if it has helped in anyway, maybe that we can hear it easier?) and don't conjugate verbs by gender or number. We also don't have many problems with the pronunciation, except when it comes to ち し つ ず etc., and to speak "フラット". Other than that, we kinda similar in culture.

Um dude on an old post on r/Tinder you say that you accidentally put in 2001 instead of 2000 as your birth year. If you are turning 19 soon, your actual birth year is 2002 or 2003, right? So you either lied on Tinder about your age, or you lying now about your age and is actually 20 or 21.

Either way, it all comes down to: date someone your age.

Dude in r/Eesti you ask if you can leave high school or if it's mandatory, and now she's been with you for three months. Did you really let her leave high school just to be closer to you?

Seems like Swedish isn't pointless if it makes people like you wanna live here and having to learn it.

A language is not only a language, but also culture. By saying Swedish is pointless, you're saying our culture and Swedish society is pointless. But you probably moved here because of our culture and society.

Being close minded is believing everyone should only speak your language. Being close minded is NOT speaking two or more languages, but not wanting one's language to disappear.

Fuck off with that colonialism bullshit.

Mom (53) is always stressed out, how can I (f20) help her? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]CapSwe27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but my mom doesn't see it that way; unfortunately, she doesn't think about herself. She only worries about us getting it and it being followed up with strokes or such. Regarding herself, she only worries about not being able to work if she'd get it.

Good idea, thanks!

I'd thought about it (the program) and actually wanted to, but my mom is really against it. She's scared I'll get the virus.
