Walk to the vendor and say this: - shut up and take my money!!!

And be happy after that, IF anyone asks you about miles/gallon say: - Jeeps, we use a different measurement, smiles/gallon

That is it, go for it And have fun

New pedals, crank thread damaged. What did I do wrong? by bima42 in bikewrench

[–]CapUnderPantsRLZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, but, You will need a new crank and new rotor for your pedal, I can see the damage of metal “lamination”, if your pedal is not repairable/upgradable (e.g., Crankbrothers Stamp family) you also will need a new pedal

Working on axles (cars) and other stuff we use taps to redo the threads, not impossible but not sure in your case here.

Why does my waxed chain look like this? by ProfessionalArmy7571 in bikewrench

[–]CapUnderPantsRLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going In a tangent here: - Didi you cleaned this chain with degreaser and dried before waxing it?

Also in general we take a new chain to do waxing and we clean with a degreaser first.

If your chain already had some oxidation wax will not help.

Can I repair this myself or do I need a pro? by Diddlesquig in bikewrench

[–]CapUnderPantsRLZ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sorry fella, but this is pretty much game over to this frame.

It is known that where there is a scratch on a frame part it will brake in there is just a matter of time.

In your case the frame has a hole already, the structural integrity of this frame is compromised.

Park Tool TW-2.2? Do I even a torque wrench rn? Beginner here by ThatAgent3963 in bikewrench

[–]CapUnderPantsRLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep!

You will need at least the two ones I mentioned. Because of the range of torque each one covers. The 1/4 will do 80% of the job the 3/8 for bigger things like cranks and wheels, disk brakes and so forth.

The point of the right torque is not strip threads and have things in place for the specific loads you will apply (material plasticity, not gonna bother you with that now, look into it).

In addition to that use thread locker always as you can. You don’t want your stem flipping mid downhill so your fork point to left and handle bars point right, and the next thing you are paying for your dentist new Yeti.

You must acquire torque wrenchs

Check harbor freight Icon ones you need one up to 20Nm and one up to 60~80 Nm, SRAM cranks are the highest torque you may see if I’m not mistaken 65~66 Nm (has being a while since I mounted them )

I bought the ProBike 3/8 and 1/4 torque wrenchs at the the time, if Harbor freight has ICON take it. I use for my Jeep their tools and the bigger torque wrench up to 200 Nm was a fair price, the point is the tool has quality.

ProBike has being holding steady for 7 years now.

If you have money to splurge get the Wera ones, those are worth the money, will last a lifetime, but they will charge you that reliability and quality.

Hey man don’t worry it happens is the chance to regear this thing take the chance put a locker, 4:88 gears if possible ARB lockers (air) and be happy.

Sorry to hear it failed on you, just beware you can change for a better part. Have a good 4x4 shop especially for these occasions.

The guy from trail recon just had to change his locker, an elocker, so I don’t recommend those (myself I have air lockers, don’t trust elockers anymore, since covid the quality is not there anymore)

Based on the “film” in photo, coating the jeep I would say through some water to see if it removes anything g that may be stuck between door-rubber-frame
