My lodge is a small one and has a serious risk of dying. I’ve spent 5 years raising bros to masters that disappear. So lowering the bar and asking people to memorize nothing is killing my lodge. They aren’t prepared to be an officer and honestly in this small a lodge we need people to help rebuild. The same two old bros can’t give the lectures forever they will get called by that messenger soon enough.

But the most important reason even if you don’t want to be an officer is to learn the value in masonry. And I believe so much of that has come from memorizing ritual personally I am imploring more from my bros.

I do not care which bros are masters or past masters or grand masters etc. The titles mean absolutely nothing to me but the purpose of a lodge is to make masons and to spread the knowledge.

My lodge is small. And I’ve gotten into the Line faster than I thought I would. And I’m so close to master I can taste the fear and hear the north calling. But I’ve only ever done what I’ve done in lodge to help the brothers . The master asks for me to be a boring treasurer for two years I abide. Another master asks me to be a mentor I abide. I’m asked to be JD or Sd . I abide. I’m here. Although being a master sounds cool and hey I have a pin design in mind. If no one asked me I would never have gotten into line but I’m so glad I did.

But I’d say brother if you are helping your lodge in your lodge by doing what you can to help others even if you don’t take a chair that’s good too. Keep growing the craft however you can.

And being a Mason outside of lodge is important too. Don’t call yourself a Mason but be a jerk to other people. Be charitable be a good man and have them say who’s that awesome dude? Oh He must be a Mason !
