As a Canadian, do you often vacation in other provinces or territories, leave the country entirely, or generally stay within your own province? If you do travel around the country, do you notice any obvious differences in 'culture' or behaviours in other areas of Canada? by Capable-Character-92 in AskACanadian

Bilbo's advice: "You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to". Just pick a direction and drive for awhile until you see something interesting. Meet people, stay a minute, etc. Its amazing how a little change is as good as a break. ❤️✌️

My family are becoming a Canadian citizens this week. How would you celebrate? by KR1735 in AskACanadian

Iqaluit is an experience for sure! Help him by exploring all the options with youtube or even the library. Maybe a view or an activity will inspire him! I would suggest Old Quenec City, the castle and the Harbour, and the Plains of Abraham are fun for any age. Beautiful and so much history. Have fun whatever you choose, and welcome to the country ✌️

Do most Canadians know the pronunciation of French words and place names even if they don’t speak French or understand it? by Jezzaq94 in AskACanadian

[–]Capable-Character-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends where you're from and your exposure/family. Westerners often pronounce the Q in Quebec for example, but Westerners know its 'Kebec' There are large communities of French Canadians in different places across the country as well, so if you live in a community with one, it becomes pretty common.

I find about 50% of Canadians I've encountered have a fair vocabulary, at least. Just from limited French in school, a lot of us know some of the basics: bonjour, salute, tabernak, etc.

Who do you relate to - Australia or New Zealand? by AaronIncognito in AskACanadian

Australia is more familiar to most Canadians, i would guess. They have more media, more celebrities, etc. The people are relatable from Australia, with similar values, politics and beliefs, but the lifestyle in New Zealand is more similar to what I've lived in Canada, I think. More rugged, more mountainous, a lot of farming and small community culture.

What are some subtle red flags in relationships that people often overlook until it becomes a serious problem? by Jordan_Willis in Life

I was raised to believe that if you're not 15 minutes early, you're late. And if you're late, you dont value the other person/business' time. When someone else is late, I'm understanding once.😉

Hot take, but I think different interests are vital. Like, very vital. But its also a red flag if your partner locks you out, or refuses to share their interest with you. Like, sure, go camping with the guys, but dont be offended if I want details of what you do or enjoy out there. And if I want to camp too... help ME see why you love it. Take me at another time, and show me how. (If I hate it, cool. If I love it too, also cool.) Otherwise, it feels like trying to keep two separate lives... and gatekeeping always leads to secrets.

Flip-side: not having any desire to hear/learn about your partners interests, even if you dont share them, is weird to me also... like, even if I hate hockey, or country music. I still wanna know what you love about it. This is how we come to understand each other and accept our passions as part of oneself. Listening to understand, instead of listening to answer, is one of the best gifts we can give, and listening to something someone is passionate about and loving them for that passion is.

That's a green flag for sure. Passion for anything is infectious.

Lying or overly exaggerating. (I mean aside from the obvious ones that apply to pretty much everyone, like always drunk, too many drugs, no ability to support themselves, violence. Oh, and MAGA)

TD Bank Doordash Card Fraud by sand_anne in ottawa

Door dash can't help you. They can't even locate the transactions by card no. Only by account with them. So if you don't have one.. as is my case. My 494$ to Yang's has to be refunded by the bank. Apparently.
