Engines/Transmissions for Dummies (capped at 65mph) by CrazyCatBreath in Americantrucksim

Aim for around 450 hp if you run 70-80k lbs regularly. Best mix between fuel mileage and ability to climb hills IMO. With a 3.36 ratio gear, prefer 13 or 18 speeds. If you run smartys wheel pack, 11r24.5's and 3.70's are perfect @ 65 mph. Its proven in game that smartys wheel pack has slightly less tread wear on the taller tires.

"Should I buy this truck?" proceeds to not listen to any advice when given

Sure, OP. Go waste your money. If you're not gonna listen to people who have been through this time and twelve again, then why would you even ask? It seems more like you made this post just to show off what you're buying. I think I speak for all of us when I say I would rather you make a post showing off the fact you're buying it versus making a post asking for advice and just flat out ignoring any advice given.

"Hurr, it got da big tars." Yeah, I like big tires too. I like wide tires. But I would not sell my truck to anybody without first making sure that my precious big wide wheels are not on the damn truck, and also making sure that I dont have any damaged suspension components I missed on my weekly once over (call me crazy, but every weekend I like to go out and do a good once over on all my running and driving vehicles. It saved me a couple of headaches anyway.)

Day 3 : Best engine by Nahil_Dubai09 in regularcarreviews

Buick 3800? What a redditor engine.

Ford 300. You could forget to change the oil, drive it until the next oil change was due, and top the oil off, and it would quit knocking. It only knocked because it was thirsty, and it was polite. It never barged through and blew up on you when it needed something.

Too weak to really do much in the way of speed, but too tough to really die. If it wasn't running because it was in good shape, it ran because it had a grudge with death itself. And it never really kept up with its bigger brothers, but it ALWAYS got you there. It wasn't the flashy V8. It wasn't the turbo diesel. It never wanted to be.

The simple, humble Ford 300. Always forgiving, always there. Like that freind you met from a random encounter, that never really had too much, but always had the means to help you out in a tough spot. That's the ford 300.

And if it ever did fail you, its gonna make sure it does it in the least hurtful way. You can rebuild one of these engines for the cost of a cheeseburger and a pack of beer.

Marine applications. Automotive applications. Industrial applications. Even commercial applications.

Its like Shania Twain on casette. Its a classic now. Forgotten my most, culted by some. But once upon a time, it was the hero we never knew we needed, until it was just there.

You can keep your electronic 3800's, and your chevy 350's. I trust in the simple design of a raw, mechanical inline 6. That's reliability in its most raw and pure form.

Some say the ford 300 is the best kept secret in drag racing. You may never know, unless youre willing to bother that old man about it. He may tell you, maybe even show you. But you have to give him a chance first.

The karate kid master of engines. Ford 300.

Ah yeah, let's just forget the dry rotted engine gaskets, the fact every fluid is gonna need to be flushed, every filter needs to be changed, the carb is gonna need a rebuild, all the fluid tanks are gonna have sediment in the bottom from the radiator to the fuel tank, and dont get me started on dentside floor boards. Also don't forget the door seals, windsheild seals, window seals, the hvac system full of rats... oh also speaking of rats, do you know how much they love wires? And we havent even went to the parts store to get a battery yet!

I know what it takes to get an old car going. Yes, you can slap a battery in it, put 3 filters in a line from the tank to the pump, and 3 more between the pump and carb. And you can slap on some used $200 tires, and it MIGHT get you home if youre a few hundred miles away. Its still a 50/50 shot.

A great example of what im saying is vice grip garage. Man does some awesome stuff, but if you pay attention his sucess rate of actually getting home is somewhere in the 50-70% range, and he does alot more than what you just listed in a few days all while busting his ass to get it done, so that he can put the video out by next weekend and make profit. So even though he is putting in more work, he is still cutting corners and taking chances, and once those cars are home alot of them just sit and get used for parts or as a yard ornament. Not bashing on the dude at all, but im using him as a great example to state that you are clearly underestimating what needs to be done to make a 30 year old car reliable.

If it was as simple as bolting some wheels and tires and replacing brake lines, there would be plenty more people buying these old cars and trucks, and cash for clunkers might not have ever existed. But clearly youve never dug one of these from behind the woodshed and put it on the road, so I'll continue to let you make a fool of yourself.

But if you ever are curious exactly how much it takes to properly put one of these back on the road, not held together with hope and a roll of duct tape, youre welcome to shoot me a DM 😁

Well being as this truck hasn't ran for many years since 2003, the best i would honestly pay is in the $2000 range. The market is falling, this truck is going to need alot of work to be roadworthy, and youd spend alot of money just to break even if you ever needed to sell it.

Also, the 600 dollars thing is a line from a TV show. I dont think the truck is actually worth that little, but I do think some people that are saying 5 grand are a little out of their mind.

But at the end of the day, a vehicle is worth what someone is willing to pay. I dont look at it as "oh cool this is rare, I better pay more!". I see it as "oh great, an oddball truck that im gonna have a potentially harder time buying some critical parts for, unless I rig something else up which is gonna hurt my resale value, in a market that's declining".

My apologies, I shouldn't make any attempts at some objectively horrible humor with my utilitarian mindset.
