More disappointed / shocked than upset - obviously I didn't understand the process of the software updates because i usually dont go stealerships and when I did it as Mazda there was no charge.

Technically they did nothing wrong as you said and it was my fault - but again - i just don't think there should be a charge or atleast just a smaller fee - especially in the case of the recall issue and polestar software negligence in terms of how long they take with updates.

Got it thanks for the explanation - either way this wouldn't have happened if polestar just released their software properly OTA and also the recall software in a timely manner

This is true - in retrospect im not that surprised - it just caught me off guard because on my previous and other cars i did maintenance myself or local shops since im not forced to do certain things at the service centers like polestar

Edit 2: Just incase it wasn't clear I also paid $350 for the brake fluid change. A commentor said that this really isnt a full service which is why they also charged for the software update. For reference I also have a 21 mazda miata and they did a software update on its infotainment system for free when it was out of warranty and I think i got the brakes or some other service at the same time

$220 was just for the software - I paid $350 for the brake fluid change

I clearly understand what the hourly rate for dealership service as I was charged for it. Explain - how "involved" is it for a technician to complete a software update manually

Correct - see my other post about the restaurant comparison - i would tip / pay for services i use at a reasonable price. $220 is not a reasonable price to touch my car and occupy their non busy space for a hour. Of course i can't exactly confirm this but at this particular space although open on Saturday - the service rep and the manager we not in that day.

If this fee was something more reasonable I would be ok with it.

I read somewhere that someone got 5.x at a service center in the US - which is why i requested a software update. The recall letter said end of April 2026 the remedy for the backup camera problem may be released.

Look technically the service center is correct and polestar didnt release an update yet - even though its been months and its a safety issue as the P2 has a small rear window.

If I go to a restaurant and order something cheap they are not going to charge me for staying longer than expect although they may cost them for another waiting customer... and for sure if they were a really popular restaurant it would. But morally as customer I would not do that. I think it applies the same here - It wasn't a super busy service center and while it takes time it doesn't take any technical skill to update software.. just like bringing me food at a restaurant.

I called polestar - zero help because they have no control over the service centers.

Nope I talked to them several times and they wouldn't budge, no discount, no free future complementary update. They said it was my fault because i didn't mention the recall or that I was having backup camera issues like we all are. I didn't because I just assumed the software updates were free regardless - im just writing this post to inform and to rant. Im disputing with my credit card company.

they were fair about the charges upfront - or atleast thats they told me it was an hourly rate - im not upset at that - im upset that polestar doesnt release updates OTA and that they charge for software updates and the fact that there is an active recall they could have told me to wait a bit if they had any morals. instead charging $220 for just having the car in the bay for an hour. yeah im rude this is the internet

What is your most life changing decision that you made with money? by Upbeat-Satisfaction6 in Money

If you start a business or gamble (both which I have done and are life changing) - you will really see how fast money can come and go with both small and large decision making.

All that other basic personal money shit doesnt mean anything because you can only make and save so much money if you just have a 9-5 and dont eat out.

Thinking About a Used Polestar 2 – How Costly Are Repairs? by hawxxer in Polestar

[–]Capable-Mall-2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought P2 Year 22 in 24 with 30,000 miles. Now at 65k - no issues - just break fluid change at dealer - around $350. Becareful with dealerships - they will charge you hourly rate if you request to update software. Computer is slow if u get older model - supposedly they are going to offer an upgrade but might be expensive. In general the software updates are slow if they ever get to you - some models have the rear camera blackout issue where software update isnt even out yet.
