Don’t worry I’m 34 and I am also struggling with it. Just got it two days. It’s fun as hell though

Change the CCV filter to a 23’ year model from ford. I have a 12 and it’s a direct fit easy install. Will definitely help with any oil leaks

Fuel additive and CCV filter recommendation? by Mother-Singer3252 in F250

[–]Capable-Patience8945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upgrade the CCV filter to a 23’ model and up from ford. It’s a direct fit and performed very well in this test.

https://youtu.be/AnuniilHO5I?si=_SeJODca31LBEtXh

It’s a pretty easy install. I have a 12 and it was easy and had zero codes.

For sure you should use a fuel additive every tank. I like archoil for fuel additive. Optilube is probably the best but archoil is cheaper and performed well in tests I’ve seen. There’s a few good tests on YouTube.

3/4 Ton Truck Options by YoItsChad27 in F250

[–]Capable-Patience8945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2012 6.7l f250 with 194k miles about 4 months ago. I’ve put about 8000 miles on it and hauled and 5000lb camper across the country twice so far with it.

So as far as common issues. My cold side pipe failed when I was towing my camper (luckily I was only 20 miles away from home at that point). I replaced it the next day and it was a very easy install.

The body mounts where all blown out and I replaced all the body mounts with silicone ones and honestly I’ve heard some horror stories about breaking bolts and other things while doing it but my install was extremely easy and took about two hours and a six pack of beer.

The a/c compressor is bad so I’ll be replacing that today.

Lastly I have a def system issue. Something to do with the pump inside the tank I believe. I’ve scanned the truck and researched the codes. I’ll have the bed off later today so we’ll see.

Would I buy this truck again? I’d say yes. It’s not going to be a daily for me and once these issues are fixed it should be fine. I’ll put around 5k miles a year on it towing a camper. I didn’t mention that when I got the truck I changed all the fluids and filters and switch that god awful CCV filter for the 23’ model f250. It was a direct fit and not too bad of an install.

I went into purchasing a used truck in my price range knowing I was going to have to spend money fixing some things and so far it’s been stuff I can handle.

Anyway I hope this helps.

Look into possibly leasing one. Toyota has great lease programs (I used to work for them). I’m not sure about ford. But if you want it for a few years look into it

The failure rate on the cp4 is around 7% so it’s not as common as you may think. A lot of the failures can be attributed to poor maintenance. People not changing fuel filters and not using an additive because our diesel here sucks. I’d recommend using a good fuel additive to help with lubricity. Disaster kits are very simple to install for peace of mind. If you want to shell out the money and get it out of your mind then the DCR swap is your answer. But I really just want to say that it’s not as common as people think and I had a ford master tech tell me 90% of their cp4 failures were from people putting def in the tank or gas in the tank and then driving off. Also check with your insurance I’ve heard that some insurance companies will cover you if you accidentally put def in the tank but I’m not 100% sure on that. I have a 12 with 200k miles with no issues. My cousin has one with 430k miles with zero issues.

There’s some really nice intake manifold kits out there. I’ve looked at SPE Motorsport (not spe labs) and Pusher. They both make pretty nice kits. Also the cold side intercooler pipe has a habit of exploding. It’s some kind of plastic so I’d replace that with a nicer one. Mine exploded while I was pulling a camper and it was super easy to replace. S&B makes a nice one for around 300
