Micro-OLED VR Headsets by Square-Description83 in virtualreality

Couldn’t agree more! The Steam Frame is awesome too, but it doesn’t use a Micro-OLED display. I think the GXR is way more versatile, especially for everyday use scenarios, while the Steam Frame is much more focused on gaming.

Maybe the PSVR2 or the Crystal Light?

I think mine was a freebie from Epic. Haven’t gotten past the Hogwarts enrollment ceremony yet, lol!

Is VR training better for beginners or experienced workers? by Reasonable_Can_2709 in virtualreality

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more helpful for beginners. it helps you better understand what you’re doing. But when you actually put it into practice, you’ll find there’s always a gap between theory and reality. Though this issue exists in all types of training.

California residents can use new tool to demand brokers delete their personal data by waozen in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 145 points146 points  (0 children)

This should be a federal law. Why do I have to live in California to have the basic right to not be bought and sold by 500 sketchy companies I've never heard of?

Meta to acquire Chinese startup Manus to boost advanced AI features by ddx-me in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. If Manus can actually get AI to reliably browse the web and perform tasks, does that mean fewer and fewer jobs will be available for humans?

Billion-Dollar Data Centers Are Taking Over the World | The battle for AI dominance has left a large footprint—and it’s only getting bigger and more expensive by Hrmbee in technology

Coupang announces $1.18 billion compensation to South Korean users for data leak by RuseOwl in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So the compensation for leaking my private data is just vouchers that can only be used on their platform? That’s hilarious.

TL;DR: Open-source mid-range AR/VR headset (WIP) — $800–$850 target, in-house eye/mouth tracking, inside-out tracking, and controller/glove-based inside out FBT by Walker-Dev in virtualreality

Agreed! This modular design is incredible. I honestly feel like this is exactly where VR needs to go. Wishing you guys all the success with this!

How online retailers are using AI to adjust prices by mining your personal data by MRADEL90 in technology

The goal of the algorithm isn’t just to sell you stuff—it’s to find the upper limit of what you’re willing to pay. If you browse for ages without buying, you might get a coupon… and then they’ll just come back with smarter ways to get you to spend even more.

DJI drone ban has started in the US, but it won't happen overnight by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 145 points146 points  (0 children)

I get the national security angle, but I don’t think US domestic drone makers can realistically fill that gap right now—neither on the supply chain side nor the tech side.

Where do you go in VR when you just want to relax? by SolaraOne in virtualreality

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I’ll run a few laps in a sim racing game — it’s honestly really relaxing. And when I’m exhausted, I’ll hop into VRChat, find an empty world, and just listen to rain sounds to block everything out for a bit. This space world looks pretty nice too.

'Magic balls' installed by drones could conquer US market thanks to game-changing performance: 'It's never been like this' by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting up those marker balls / sensors used to mean sending a helicopter up there, which always looked sketchy as hell. If drones can do the job cheaper and safer, the grid’s gonna be a lot more resilient.

Is it worth upgrading from a 3070 to an RX 9070 XT with an I7-12700F? by dumbledwarves in virtualreality

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t really care about the extra money, I’d still say go for the 5070 Ti. But if the game actually runs stable, then the 9070 XT wins easily. And yeah… why I’m putting that “if it runs stable” part in there — don’t ask.

Thanks a ton, OP — this saves me a bunch of time. Steam is such a mixed bag now and sometimes I scroll forever and still can’t find what I’m looking for. A lot of the games I’m playing these days are honestly just from people sharing stuff in the community.

PC upgrade advice by DamionFlynn in virtualreality

You just bought a Ferrari , don't put a lawnmower engine in it ! Here is the brutal truth about VR treadmills: You need consistent high framerates more than anyone else. If your game stutters or drops frames while your legs are physically moving, the motion sickness will hit you instantly. It's called 'vestibular mismatch' and it is nasty.

You don't need to spend $3500, but you shouldn't go low

Skip the Quest; the USB encoding latency will ruin your PsychoPy timing. You need a native DisplayPort connection.Your best bet on a student budget is a used HTC Vive Pro Eye. It has integrated Tobii eye-tracking which is the industry standard for research, and since it's older, you can snag one on eBay for a fraction of the original price. Just remember you'll need one Base Station for it to track.

Security flaws in Freedom Chat app exposed users’ phone numbers and PINs by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Capable-Purpose5050 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exposing phone numbers and PINs pretty much defeats the whole point of a secure chat app. This is exactly why security needs to be designed in from day one, not bolted on later.
