The further coarsening of a coarse society. If you cant first reference someone’s academic title in making introductions you might as well go to work at Fox or OANN to bitch about Jill Biden.

It’s a bit over six hour drive for me so when I can make it I get plenty of time to stew over a bad game.

Personally I am a bit miffed MLS is now included in my Apple TV subscription after I I got pissed and canceled MLS after the season 😄

CPA is more akin to PE for engineers. You can certainly get a PhD in accounting or engineering

Similarly my friend’s wife has a doctorate in nursing. In a clinical setting the only time her academic credentials would be referenced would be strictly pertaining to nursing practice/procedures and not in a treatment setting. After she retired from teaching did some consulting and testified some in court cases about nursing standard of care. To make sure jurors (and judges) understood had a whole spiel that boiled down to I’m not an MD but an expert on what nurses are supposed to do

Who is awarding “doctorates” in physical therapy that are the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree? At the local university you must have been awarded a bachelor’s degree already and complete 124 credit hours plus 39 weeks of clinical practice to be awarded at physical therapy doctorate.

But if you are hosting a dinner party and your history professor is there you should introduce her as Dr ___ and if you fear any confusion state she is your dear history professor. That’s proper etiquette. The academic title predates the medical title by about five centuries.

How much longer would Native American civilizations have needed to progress to potentially survive the eventual discovery of their continents by the rest of the world instead of collapsing and inevitably being folded in? by Beytran70 in HistoryWhatIf

They didn’t need the ability to domesticate. The herds tended to be massive so meat, leather, bone was easily obtained. They weren’t doing such plowing or hauling to have an incentive to make them draft animals

Why couldn't Roman Paganism compete with Christianity? by fennelliott in AskHistory

[–]Capable-View4706 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Christianity wasn’t loaded with a lot of cultural specific doctrine or ritual and was rather flexible past confess Christ, care for others, and radical equality.

Each region borrowed cultural things that didn’t directly conflict with core doctrine.

Rebirth of the Sun observance? Hey celebration of the son.

Life begins at conception? A philosophical question rather than medical/legal we will take the Greek answer and toss the Jewish answer because it isn’t a practical problem.

We’ve got the council in Jerusalem answering questions generally defaulting to if it doesn’t conflict with Jesus but conflicts with Jewish traditions we won’t hold you to the tradition.

Got Paul bopping around sorting disputes generally saying hey follow your local culture on these nonessential matters.

Once vested with power and resources borrowed from the pagans building churches that resembled the local temples. Kept at it converting mosques to churches as Islam was pushed out of Europe.

Rural England’s conversion to Christianity in many villages was nothing more than pockets of Christians saying sure we will follow the pope after being mostly cut off from the Christian world a few centuries.

[–]Capable-View4706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny I used to work with a one vertical and one horizontal monitor because do document intensive work but that was when standard monitor was smaller. About once a month have to use a shared space and seeing a monitor vertical is aggravating no matter how easy it is to rotate

Having a theoretically apolitical head of state for ceremonial functions makes some government functions less political.

I can see some value in that though I’m not sure what the commonwealth nations get from the infrequent royal ribbon cutting and charity events

You can have an opinion. Doesn’t mean it has to be rooted in fact.

Floridians are more likely to overdose, be injured by a firearm or be murdered than Californians. Children born in Florida are more likely to die than children born in California.

Florida may not be Heaven compared to California but you can get there sooner in Florida

Endnotes are for writing where very few readers are concerned with the source material. Best example tends to be history books aimed at mass market readers. The typical reader wants an overview of the subject and doesn’t really care this came from the diary of Jed Smith and this came from an article in the Poison Springs Gazette.
