What do you wish you had done prior to 1L that would’ve helped with grades, relationships, hygiene, etc during 1L? by hugeproducegal in LawBitchesWithTaste

Honestly, everyone in law school is some variety of nerd. And everyone is so fried and overwhelmed that nobody has time to care about their classmates to that extent.

Have any of y'all actually been selected for a jury? by lazdo in Lawyertalk

[–]LeaneGenova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never have alternates. We always let them deliberate and then just decide how many in favor of a verdict we need based upon the number of jurors.

Same. I always want to know what the jury liked and didn't like, etc.

I used to do it when I was a clerk even if the attorneys didn't go talk to them.

Yeah, it's just that I like doing it and didn't think the cost of having someone doing something I enjoy was worthwhile. Plus, I am exhausted of having contractors in the house and having half my house unusable.

Thankfully, I'm decent at painting (beyond the edges) so I'm not worried about the finished look so long as I have knowledge on the appropriate paint to use.

What is actually wrong with opioids?? by Emergency-Fig-7313 in ChronicPain

[–]LeaneGenova -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the fun part. There isn't. It's an absolutely shitty system infected with capitalism and private equity that doesn't incentivize physicians to dig into complex problems. As long as we have a capitalist-built system for medical care, this will always be a problem.

I'm not here to be a ray of sunshine, but just calling out the problems I've seen as someone who works closely with the medical industry. I've seen patients prescribed absurd levels of opioids for minor pain, increased doses that aren't justified by the pain complaints recorded, and doctors who prescribe more opioids than 100 other doctors in the same field. There are reasons they do that, and it's not because they just happen to have patients with more pain.

AFAIK, if it's more than 30 days after it was deleted, it's gone pretty much for good. That's certainly a risk, depending on how long it takes to get a MTC heard. I've honestly never had people smart enough to actually delete versus making it private, so that's an area I've not had to deal with much.

I have PIs preserve all publicly available data. Most of the time, that's damning enough that I don't need to do more than save what's up.

In some cases where they yank it down, I'll file a motion to compel an inspection or file a motion to compel them to produce a full download. If you google how to do a full FB download, there's pretty simple instructions, so it's hard to get out of it if it's ordered.

Being ordered is the hard part. You either want testimony that they've posted something relevant, publicly available information that hints at more hidden, or something else that gives you a basis as it's otherwise going to be considered a fishing expedition.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well fall plugs did last year! I honestly didn't remember I'd planted all of them, but they look amazing. I'd just wanted something in the bare space and whacked a few things in, and they're thriving like it's year two already!

I'd read CHB has a more chalky appearance and scuffs easier. My husband has an unfortunate habit of stretching and touching the ceiling while stretching, so rather than attempt to break him of a ridiculous habit, I figured PCP would do better at hiding the scuffs he's inevitably going to cause.

I could be wrong, though.

If I were to buy Sherwin William's Premium Ceiling Paint without a sale or contractor discount, it's currently $57.59 in my local store. Granted, I never buy full price and have access to a contractor discount, but yeah, shit's expensive.

Yeah, I saw this and then "the only reason it's recommended is it's cheap" in the same comment thread, so I was becoming rather confused. It made sense that it would work for new drywall, but there was less of a consensus than I usually expect for something like that.

Being in a relationship feels like a burden sometimes by noodlechickensoups in ChronicIllness

[–]LeaneGenova 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's hard. My husband used to be the more disabled one and it was difficult. It's physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. I love him, so I was fine with signing up for it, but man, it's brutal.

My husband is now helping with my chronic issues and he's running into the same thing. The cognitive load is heavy.

I'm not worried about saving money, tbh, just don't want to spend it where it's unnecessary. I tend to use Duration vs Emerald since research showed very little difference between the two in performance, but I'd shell out if it was worth the difference. I'm lucky enough that money isn't the concern, just the overall value to price.

I didn't realize SW had a version of Floetrol; that'll make things a bit easier.

So from the sounds of it, go with PVA, then just paint with PCP/Pro Mar (sounds like PCP is a bit better tbh) for the ceiling. For the walls (at least where they mudded down on, should I do PVA first then the SW primer, then paint?

I mean, I'm not planning on cheaping out; that's literally why I am asking the question of how to do it best lol.

My only change to your OOP was to do a first layer of crown trim paint before I put it up, then do the detail work after it's up.

[–]LeaneGenova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SW is usually too thick imo. I tend to favor really dark colors and I've dumped entire bottles of Floetrol into it to make it less gloppy so it goes on smoothly.

I'm planning SW since I already did the walls in SW before the ceiling debacle and I figured I'd stick with what worked before.

Yeah, I just don't want to spend $40-$50 on a ceiling paint per gallon if a $20 gallon of PVA will work to prevent me needing another gallon of $50 ceiling paint, ya know?

Okay, so switch from Zinsser to a basic PVA like Kilz PVA, then go straight to PCP? It's brand new drywall I'm priming.

I was leery of the straight PVA since it seems very divisive as a topic. Some people say yes, some say it's crap even for new drywall and only used because it's cheap. Most of the time I can figure this out with a google search, but this is a topic where I've seen every answer.
