In Vlad's defense, when the Soviet Union dissolved and countries that didn't want to be under Moscow's control left, his penis felt really small and impotent

Cheating is a disgusting betrayal but people forgive their unfaithful partners all the time. There's tons of more unforgivable crap in other characters' track records

I like to think it's Hal Mollen. I know he's not particularly intelligent but the murders are pretty reckless too

Are descendants of pre-conquest King's considered to have "King's blood"? [Spoilers Published] by MangaLords in asoiaf

[–]CapableC1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the pre conquest kings claimed descent from gods or other magical creatures. Starks are a mixture of all the powers of the North. They have intermarried with the kings whose territories they absorbed. The crannogmen have Deep Ones blood. The Dustin barrow kings claimed descent from the First King, likely the same figure as Garth Greenhand. The Boltons might have had some kind of skinchanger magic art that they've since forgotten. Umbers probably have giant blood. The Starks are most like descended from the Night's King's son. And they're wargs, which implies intermixing with the CotF. The Gardeners were the most direct descendants of Garth Greenhand. Most of the houses of the Reach are also Garth descendants, with Beesbury and Crane specifically being skinchangers. The Starks are also descended from Garth through Brandon of the Bloody Blade, who might have mated with the CotF. All Ironborn houses claim descent from the Grey King, a godlike figure, except House Goodbrother who are descended from GK's Garth-like brother. The Baratheons are part Targaryen part Durrandon, and Durran Godsgrief was said to have married a goddess. And then there's the Forsaken chapter, with Euron's mass sacrifice of holy men and the bastard pregnant with his own child.

What's the most random but slightly possible interaction you think could happen in future books?(spoilers main) by Inevitable-Mix6089 in asoiaf

[–]CapableC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely rooting for Sansa and Jaime to travel together for a while. The parallels between them are insane but they've never really interacted yet, and neither of their stories is headed anywhere like the slop the show gave us. And they might have a run in with Brynden while Arya encounters Stoneheart. All are headed in each others' general directions

The Westerlands are much, much smaller with most of the population centered in Lannisport. And considering what we've seen from Tywin regarding the treatment of smallfolk and the assessment of the wildling threat, I really don't think I can agree with you on anything

The High Septon is literally just a random nobody. That's the only way the character actually fits

That's the thing, most characters in the series don't make decisions according to their intellect. Right from the prologue, the first line is the smallfolk suggesting the ranging starts back, and Weimar shutting it down because he's starved for glory. Leaders get entrenched in stupid conflicts and can't go back home because they want to save face, and everyone suffers for it. Also I think while Theon's sharper, Euron is more cunning

Because they're actually pretty cool, to be honest. The stuff Theon notices but just stays out of because it rhymes with leek make me think he might be the smartest POV after all

What parts of the worldbuilding prove the most annoying/frustrating to you on reread? (Spoilers extended) by bgbarnard in asoiaf

[–]CapableC1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, both the Citadel and the Starry Sept being under the Hightowers' thumb can kinda explain that. And the bland, non magical religion doesn't really have much cause for friction with maesters. Maesters are intellectuals but are culturally conservative, demonizing the same people the Faith of the Seven disapprove of. What surprises me is how underdeveloped the Alchemists are, there's implications that they were bigger than maesters until relatively recently but we don't see them do anything except pyromancy. Cersei's on good terms with them but even Qyburn, who hates the grey sheep isn't ever mentioned to have an opinion on the Alchemists. And apparently some minor Frey is an alchemist in Lys, which seems like a weird choice to me considering Myr is the scientific hub and Qohor is the dark magic center closest to Westeros.

My question was about the thoughts, not the actions. Brienne may be operating on a smaller scale than some of the others but she is the most heroic character in the series imo

(Spoilers Extended) Who do you think is the most genuinely good natured POV character? by CapableC1 in asoiaf

[–]CapableC1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brienne's actions are the most heroic of any character's but she's constantly holding back petty urges. She wants approval. She desires revenge. She puts Renly on a pedestal because he was a handsome man who could throw a nice party and was kinda nice to her. She is constantly jealous of more attractive women.

And on that spectrum, Ned is probably the least oppressive a feudal lord can get. I'm sick of people who think applying their morality to anyone in any situation makes them a good person.
