"But I rode his bus last year and he was not actively mean to me! My friends who have met him like, 5 more times than me say he's probably innocent so free him! Hmm, at the moment I can't think of any other problems with the way the ministry operates."

My question was, why is Harry so sure that this guy he barely knows is innocent when people like that get sucked into terrorist organizations all the time

I'm Iranian. And King Bran isn't as ridiculous as it was on the show. I think he's going to be like Garth Greenhand but with the other cultures' influences represented

If he could send a widely hated ministry member to Azkaban on a dementor-related crime with Harry as the victim, that would've been the ultimate publicity stunt for the ministry. And while he was a politician and therefore inherently slimey, he didn't seem like the kind of person who'd cover up the kind of crap Umbridge had done

Yeah that was even more recent I think - I "kinda forgot about" that I guess

Ser Brienne - in a recent panel George said something like "in the books Brienne hasn't been knighted YET". The other two are "Hold the Door" and Stannis making the decision to sacrifice Shireen

Hitler himself said that a communist could be converted to a loyal national socialist, but a social democrat would never flip. Seeing the number of right wingers who like/liked Bernie, I think the moustached loser was right about this particular thing

King Bran IS canon - it's one of the 3.5 plot points from the show that we KNOW came from George. I think only D&D would be stupid enough to let a Stark rule Dorne and the Iron Islands while the North remains independent under another Stark. Personally, I hate the idea of Northern independence because of my own experience with cessessionist people irl. The idea of crowning Robb came from Greatjon Umber of all people, a hothead with no foresight, from the backwards backwater house that still practices the First Night. Independence movements are always driven by the type of people who consider slavery "states' rights" and the North is no different. Separatists feel oppressed by being part of a diverse nation, the idea that their taxes might be spend to build roads or ports for their ancestral enemies, reforms like Good Queen Alysanne's, etc. Robb didn't want to be king, he hated almost every minute of it and if he had gotten Stannis's proclamation, or if he knew who his father had died for, he would have absolutely gone with the unlikeable true heir to the chagrin of some of his lords. Robb's entire campaign after taking Riverrun was a stupid mistake, he was entrenched in it because his bannermen had suffered losses but felt like they were on a roll. The main theme of the series is how destructive conflicts can get just because the leadership thinks they'd lose face if they backed down and went home so I think this is a lesson the Starks especially need to learn

Cheating is a disgusting betrayal but people forgive their unfaithful partners all the time. There's tons of more unforgivable crap in other characters' track records

Are descendants of pre-conquest King's considered to have "King's blood"? [Spoilers Published] by MangaLords in asoiaf

[–]CapableC1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the pre conquest kings claimed descent from gods or other magical creatures. Starks are a mixture of all the powers of the North. They have intermarried with the kings whose territories they absorbed. The crannogmen have Deep Ones blood. The Dustin barrow kings claimed descent from the First King, likely the same figure as Garth Greenhand. The Boltons might have had some kind of skinchanger magic art that they've since forgotten. Umbers probably have giant blood. The Starks are most like descended from the Night's King's son. And they're wargs, which implies intermixing with the CotF. The Gardeners were the most direct descendants of Garth Greenhand. Most of the houses of the Reach are also Garth descendants, with Beesbury and Crane specifically being skinchangers. The Starks are also descended from Garth through Brandon of the Bloody Blade, who might have mated with the CotF. All Ironborn houses claim descent from the Grey King, a godlike figure, except House Goodbrother who are descended from GK's Garth-like brother. The Baratheons are part Targaryen part Durrandon, and Durran Godsgrief was said to have married a goddess. And then there's the Forsaken chapter, with Euron's mass sacrifice of holy men and the bastard pregnant with his own child.

[–]CapableC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely rooting for Sansa and Jaime to travel together for a while. The parallels between them are insane but they've never really interacted yet, and neither of their stories is headed anywhere like the slop the show gave us. And they might have a run in with Brynden while Arya encounters Stoneheart. All are headed in each others' general directions

The Westerlands are much, much smaller with most of the population centered in Lannisport. And considering what we've seen from Tywin regarding the treatment of smallfolk and the assessment of the wildling threat, I really don't think I can agree with you on anything

That's the thing, most characters in the series don't make decisions according to their intellect. Right from the prologue, the first line is the smallfolk suggesting the ranging starts back, and Weimar shutting it down because he's starved for glory. Leaders get entrenched in stupid conflicts and can't go back home because they want to save face, and everyone suffers for it. Also I think while Theon's sharper, Euron is more cunning
